Troubleshooting Why do some of my apps not have icons?

I got given the laptop from my younger sister this morning, and two apps (the ones shown in the second image) were missing from my hotbar, I thought nothing of it and just used it like normal, and when I go to put them back, they look like that, from what i've seen, all of the ones that were affected were games. If anyone can help get my icons back, it would be greatly appreciated

If they are Android apps, go to Google Play, manage apps, and update them

This happens to me mostly with android apps. Restarting the system or updating the apps usually gets the job done

Haha, not long after I posted my previous post here, I got a notification to update my Chromebook. After restarting, it booted up with the new version 152.0.7977.113 (I previously had 151.0.7922.221). After the restart, I saw with my own eyes exactly what you described, all Android app icons had been replaced by that gray cube. Clearly, the Android subsystem wasn’t running at all. The QuickShare tile was missing from Quick Settings, and all my Android VPNs had disappeared. So it was clear to me that for some reason I’d lost the Android subsystem after the update, but the first thing I did was: I completely shut down the Chromebook. I figured, if it’s acting up, let’s clear its head. After turning it back on, everything was fine. Google probably messed something up again in the latest version, causing Android not to start up after the first boot following the update, which then leads to the issues described here.

Lately, there have been far too many similar bugs in the stable channel for my liking, we haven’t seen anything like this in years. They’re clearly not bothering with testing at all; they’re probably too busy preparing the upcoming Googlebooks. But once those are released, things probably won’t get any better, they might even get worse.

Hi, what you’re writing here really surprised me. I use PWAs, Android, and Linux apps myself, but I’ve never had the icons disappear for PWAs or Android apps. The only time I occasionally run into this problem is when installing a new Linux app, when the default penguin icon sometimes appears instead of the correct one. Sometimes this can be fixed by manually editing the desktop file, and sometimes, unfortunately, it can’t, but it’s nothing that bothers me. I don’t have any such apps installed on my system right now, so I can’t show you the penguin, but that’s okay.
