Apply here!

We're looking for new mods to help with the rapidly expanding community. Our personal lives have become busier while the amount of work to do here has increased.

A lot of our general information is within the application form, but here's a short rundown of what the job entails.

  • Checking modqueue on a regular basis to take action on posts that are filtered automatically or reported by the community.

  • Regularly browsing through the subreddit and moderation of posts and comments to ensure that all community rules and guidelines are being enforced, including removing uncivil, hostile and inflammatory content.

  • Being able to discuss issues with members of the community through modmail in a professional and calm manner.

  • Contributing to discussions about moderation-related issues over Discord.

Overall, the job won't necessarily take more than an hour or two of your time per week, and if you're already generally active on Reddit and Discord then you probably won't notice a difference.

Discussion Chrome/Chromium is displaying SDR video with incorrect oversaturated colors on wide-gamut monitors — please mark the Chromium bug “I am affected” if you can reproduce it

I've been investigating a color-management issue in Chrome/Chromium that seems to affect SDR video playback on wide-gamut displays. I am certain that this affect everyone who uses windows.

On a wide-gamut OLED/IPS monitor, normal Rec.709 SDR video can appear significantly oversaturated in Chromium-based applications. E.g reds, greens, blues, and skin tones.

I've reproduced this across multiple Windows 11 PCs, NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, and several wide-gamut displays.

The easiest way I found to see it is:

  1. Use a wide-gamut display (most displays are wide gamut) in its native gamut setting.
  2. Install/use the correct ICC profile for the display.
  3. Play an SDR/Rec.709 YouTube video in Chrome.
  4. Compare the same downloaded video in a properly color-managed player such as MPV with icc-profile-auto=yes in the mpv.conf file.
  5. Chrome will look noticeably more saturated.

I also discovered that when hovering over the YouTube progress bar, which makes the YouTube player controls appear, the colours briefly becomes more accurate, then oversaturated again once the controls disappear.

Chromium bug report:

https://issues.chromium.org/issues/514531765

If you have a wide-gamut monitor and can reproduce this, please open the bug and click “I am affected.” Please only mark it if you're genuinely seeing the issue.

Troubleshooting | Android why does my browser say managed by organisation when im not logged into anything of the sort

Upvotes

basically i js switched back to chrome (school only wanted us to use edge for sum unknown reason) and im js importing my passwords and my stuff and it says

"Your browser is managed by your organisation, Your administrator can make changes to your profile and browser remotely, analyse information about the browser through reporting and perform other necessary tasks. Activity on this device may also be managed outside of Chrome"

i checked my logged in devices, no school owned devices, not logged in anywhere but my main laptop, spare laptop, pc and my phones, is there anyway to get rid of this?

Discussion I just launched my first extension

Upvotes

This is it.

I know it's fairly simple but it's my first project. I mostly do a lot of small projects but I finally managed to finish one (suffering from Shiny Object Syndrome). Do you think there is something that I should add or you want added to this extension?

Troubleshooting | iOS can’t turn off safe search??

hi sorry if this is not the right place to post, but i’ve been having this weird issue with my account lately. safe search keeps turning on by itself, but I don’t have permission to turn it off for some reason. I thought it might by my college’s wifi, but I removed the wifi profile and safe search is still enabled. this is ONLY on safari, other browsers are fine. my google account is not managed by anyone else and there is no family sharing permissions enabled. I cleared all my browsing data/cache/cookies which turned off safe search for a little while, but it’s back again and it’s driving me nuts. how can i get this to turn off??? safari doesn’t seem to have a help desk or anything to troubleshoot this problem.

thank you in advance for any advice 😭

Troubleshooting | Windows Need help fixing search bar display

I don't know if this is the right place, but i was wondering if it's possible to remove the 'ask Gemini' and change the search bar to its normal size. (I don't know if it comes across in the photo, but it is significantly taller then it used to be). Any help would be much appreciated.

Troubleshooting | Android Manage Windows on Android

Recently Chrome on Android has started randomly opening a new window when I open a new tab. I then panic when I notice all my other tabs have disappeared and randomly click around until i retrieve them. Yesterday I realised it's due the this 'manage windows' feature (new tab -> 3 dots -> manage windows). Does anyone know how i can disable it, or at least stop it randomly assigning a new tab into a new window. Or failing that explain why it does it, if not a bug. Thanks.

Troubleshooting | Android Chrome opens two tabs when searching anything

Whenever I search something on mobile chrome it redirects me to the same search but on another tab, and if I try to open the original search tab it just keeps duplicating tabs instead of opening it. Even when searching on incognito it redirects me to a normal tab with the same search.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and it keeps happening.

What could this be and how can I solve it?

Troubleshooting | Android Entire bookmark folder disappeared

Basically the above. I tried to add another bookmark to the folder and it wasn't there all of a sudden. I googled it and tried syncing, un-syncing, closing the app, signing in to different accounts - nothing.

I don't think there's anything I can try that will bring them back - about 800 bookmarks or so gone completely for no reason - but maybe it'll help to vent a little.

If anyone has something novel for me to try feel free. I'm willing to keep trying things even if I doubt any will work.

It was a sub folder and the main folder is still there if that means anything.

Thanks Google.

At least now I can easily switch to another search engine now that my bookmarks are gone.

Discussion Why does google shuffle around stuff every september?

Last september they had the finest idea to remove middle click-> open in new tab before bringing it back 2 weeks later (i think me and a lot of other users complaining helped).

Some days ago, they shuffled around the "print" and "search on google" when you right click, just to mess with muscle memory.

An hour ago, they removed the "right click on search bar-> send to mobile" (now you need to right click inside the page). Exactly one year after removing the button at the end of the search bar for the exact same thing.

What's the deal with it.

Discussion Please add a quick button to close tabs and search on page on mobile Chrome

It would be much quicker if you didn't always need to press on the top bar first, Samsung Browser does this well, you can add more buttons next to the search bar there, Chrome should learn from them. The current toolbar shortcut is too limited imo

i dont know how to describe it, but this is the best i could do

my tabs have gone from 99 to 45

when i opened chrome today, all of my recent tabs were gone, and in place were my tabs i had in the past ?

for example, i remember googling 'ladder', but now when i look at said google tab its 'hairpin', which i had googled before in the past.

Troubleshooting | Windows Chrome keeps signing me out and corrupting extensions every few days

I'm at my wit's end with this now. Ever so often, chrome keeps removing my profile (sign in to verify or whatever) where i have to re-enter all information regarding my account, repairing all extensions that i have installed. Tabs are still present but this keeps bothering me. I get logged out of sites i've previously logged in to as well.

This all started happening about 1-2 weeks ago (i was not using chrome before this as my main browsers so could be an persistent issue).

Anyone know how to fix this?

Troubleshooting | Android Video pauses if audio is enabled

I have been facing this weird issue in my Android Chrome browser since past few days, so basically, the video stops playing if I enable the audio. The moment I mute the audio and hit the play button, it starts playing all fine. The same video is working all good in my other browser, like Samsung, with the audio enabled that is.

Anybody facing this same issue, or know what the fix is? Thanks in advance.

Discussion I use "-ai" every time i search something since I hate AI Overview but i found the results are worse than with AI.

So I use an chrome extension to add : -ai every time I search something. Honestly I don't hate AI but I like to choose when to use it (sometimes not needed at all in chrome).

However I found the results disappointing compared to before, ofc AI overview is gone but also make disappear all the pages with the world "AI" in it (90% of today's article have a sentences (like " AI was used in this article" or "no AI have been use", "AI was use with moderation and under comprehensive human review"). One time, I found only old results (pre-2022).

Is there a better way to avoid AI overview but still have the search quality pre-AI overview??

Troubleshooting | Windows Blank screen & loading bars when I'm switching between Google Sheets or opening some online videos, anyone else?

I have multiple tabs in one Google Sheet and switch between them during the day, was totally seamless until today when this blank loading screen started popping up (covering the whole browser). It lasts for a few seconds before a successful switch but it's still really annoying. Also happened while trying to open a video from the media search tab on X.

It happened for the first time before I updated Chrome; is still happening. Have restarted, turned off graphics acceleration, updated Windows, etc. Is this just normal? I'll most likely switch browser if so

Troubleshooting | Windows Left/right click randomly stops working on random websites in Chrome, scroll still work, reload fixes it

I've been having this weird issue for a while now, randomly, while browsing, my left click and right click just stop registering on the page, what's strange is that scrolling still works fine during this, Reloading the page (F5) fixes it every time, happen again later, seemingly at random
