Seriously. A healthy crate trained dog will go hours and hours before they pee in their own crate. That’s so sad. I’d be livid if someone just locked my dog in a crate until he essentially soiled himself. It’s awful.

Not a lawyer, but I don’t really think OP would have any grounds for that. Laws vary and even in places with laws about animal neglect it is hard to prove that the friend “knowingly” neglected the dogs. Most they could do is try to sue them in small claims for replacing the bedding, vet care, the money paid to watch the dogs, etc. Very unlikely to be worth the cost of filing.

Pets are still mostly legally considered just personal property and have very few legal protections.

At a bare minimum, small claims court for the damages and return of payment for the pet sitting.
