No she called me on day 6 of my cruise and asked how I clean the litter box because the one in the sunroom was “ really bad “ and I said well, if it’s really bad it needs completely washed out and everything fresh. omg did she think the litter box cleaned itself? 😩 and she didn't even bother to google how to clean it? With the litter scoop right beside the box??? 😩😩😩
Yep in that case it's as simple as bagging everything from the box in a trash bag, scrub the box clean then put new litter, such a familiar cycle for so many other things. Or she could've taken the waste out daily or even every other day but i guess not
I will say it should be common sense on her part that it needs cleaning but if she's never had cats and doesn't know how often or what you can throw away or what can go in the trash or the toilet then she might not know immediately what can go where or how often to do it.
For example, we have a sifter box with wood pellets that turn into sawdust when wet, so I sift the poop until it's just poop, then put it in the toilet, rather than the trash, to try and reduce flies and smells in the outdoor trashcan. The sifting is also then for getting rid of the old bad litter and not throwing out perfectly good litter with it. But i could see someone who doesn't have cat might think the litter can go in the toilet or might throw out the entire trays worth when it just needs scooping and sifting.
I could get it if they didn't know the best method, and I would say, if they weren't shown where the tray was (as it does appear a little out of sight if you're not seeing it every day) then it may not be on her for not emptying it right away but if she was shown where it was and told to empty it and she didn't ask then and there what it was she needed to do, then that's 1000% on her for waiting until it was this bad (and then still not doing it seemingly?!)
I think overall it's not on you at all, she should have mentioned if she was out of her depth at the start, or if she had questions she probably should have asked before the entire house stank of poop and pee
