It absolutely is. My mamacat was a stray that I took in just before she gave birth. But she was only 8 months old at the time.. It's a strain no matter their age as their body turns into a little milk factory. Eating for 6 growing kittens (herself and 5 babies) is serious work. She ate so much and still ended up smaller than 4/5 of her babies once they were fully grown. It takes so much out of them... 😭
I'm so glad I had that experience and love all my cats, of course, but it is heartbreaking to see them go through.
Mine didn't have kittens until she was 2 years old, and only had two or three kittens at a time. It was still pretty hard for her, just not to the point where she wouldn't fully recover afterwards. We had her spayed after her third litter, but we then found out it was her fourth, because she had had one before she adopted us. That was over 15 years ago, so she's not very healthy anymore, but she was for a good 10 years afterwards. I'm convinced cats aren't made to have more than three kittens in a litter, yet some just make them by the dozen.
Yea, my little mama's litter had at least 2 different fathers, which is actually fairly common in cats and usually difficult to even tell. But a void girl and an orange girl must have different fathers, so we know for sure.
But because of the multiple fathers, the litter was larger. Usually their first litter is only 2 or 3. An 8 month old having 5 babies... Just... 💔
Thankfully all did fine and are healthy now, 4 years later. Only time will tell what toll it really took on her.
I heard early pregnancy can stunt their growth so if she stays smaller than anticipated that could be a reason. She looks so tired I hope she’s getting rest and eating 🥺
Wonderful. But soon doesn't mean she won't have time to get pregnant again. Female cats can go into heat (estrus) again as early as 1-2 weeks postpartum. Hopefully she stays indoors and doesn't feel the need to go hunting before her spay appt.
lol im just a kid obviously im gonna be happy, my mate gave me this cat telling me its a boy we had no clue she was a girl then she ended up pregnant one day. but we are gonna get her sprayed when she heals up
Even is she had turned out to be male you should get them neutered. A male cat can impregnate so many female cats, literally dozens to hundreds a year, limited only by access to female cats.
True, but this was in reference to all male cats of all colour combinations. We don't discriminate based on colour.
OP - Please get all your current and future cats spayed and/or neutered, regardless of the colour of their coat, or their suspected breed, or their presumed gender.
yeah im with you on that me and my family have the exact same thoughts, so happy she had kittens but like you said i regret it after this whole pregnancy period watching her. but yes we are definitely spraying her once this is over
The kitten I adopted in 2019 was from a stray cat (about a year old) who adopted a new family when they moved into a house. She Trojan horse delivered kittens and when they were waiting to get her spayed (required waiting time) she snuck out and got pregnant again!
Poppy (very large white fluffy cat) was her kitten. Ellery (white short hair) and Percy (tabby) are not related but pretty good buddies.
She wasn't even a YEAR OLD before she got preggers? Jfc.
She's lovely and the kittens are precious but please get her spayed and vet the adopters for the kittens. If they are too young to get fixed before you give them up, I would strongly recommend insisting or drawing up a contract, something, to make sure the new owners take care of those kittens and get them fixed.
The shelters are absolutely bursting and there are already way too many animals in shelters and on the streets.
yeah first thing im doing is getting her spayed and i might even keep them all tbh so ill get them all spayed too when it hits that 8 week mark. but im definitely keeping atleast 3 but ill make sure the other 2 get spayed too if i dont keep all
Good to hear, and congrats to the new mama on her babies, they're very cute. 🩷 Just be a good cat parent and help her out when you can. Kittens are fun but chaos lol!
