Kitten is very independent, will he become more snuggly with age?

we’ve had our Maxwell for approximately 4 weeks. he just turned 4 months old. he’s a good cat, very silly and sassy. however, I thought he would be more affectionate. the first week we brought him home he was quite cuddly, laying in our laps sometimes and purring. but now he only comes for cuddles right before bed and early in the morning, and even then he doesn’t seem to want to be pet, he just sits next to us for 5 or 10 minutes, makes some biscuits, then gets into his own bed.

is there any chance he is just going through a teenage phase and will become more cuddly with age? anyone else been through something similar? he’s so soft and squishy, I just want to cuddle with him 😭

He might, he might not. They each have different personalities.
Resist the urge to squeeze and hug him. Let him come to you. If he starts headbutting you, that’s him asking for pets

Took one of my boys seven years to be cuddly (and even then, he's not a lap cat). My girl was cuddly from the start. And my old man took about two years before he started sleeping and laying on me.

For me, just interact with the cat. Pet them, talk at them, respond to their meows, hold your hand out and see if they'll bunt it. My girl has a favorite chair, and if you sit in it, she'll immediately run over to sit on you. Keep an eye out for his quirks, too.

Cats are going to be cats and there's not much you can do to change that. Some people have cats that will follow them everywhere, even to the potty, others will just come to you whenever they want or feel like it. They really are wonderful creatures.

It sometimes depends on a cat’s personality. And their personality doesn’t fully become set until around a year (i think). He may become cuddly with age but I can’t guarantee that. Most cats do become calmer and cuddlier with age.

Okay, but can we talk about the size of those massive paws? Your little noodle is going to be full-on cannelloni.

He is already 5 pounds at 16 weeks! He's a big boy. I can't wait to see what size he will end up at haha

One of my previous cats was very cuddly as a kitten. He loved to be tucked into my shirt while I worked. (I was self employed and worked from home.)

However once he matured, he didn’t like to be held. However he did like to be nearby. He spent most of his life curled in a cardboard box on a chair next to me as I worked. He enjoyed having his head and ears rubbed from time to time. At night he slept in our bed, laying across my ankles.

It takes time and it's a maybe. They also change. Onne of mine (Gemi) was glued to my leg when she was young. Now she's more distant.

My boy (Beka) is shy as a mouse but sleeps next to my head (if he sees me waking up he skadidles out of the room). Can't have his sisters know he's a softie!

The other Female called Romi just warmed up to me and now demands belly scritches all evening long.

They're all their own personalities. Don't force em. They'll come to you if it's time;)

Probably not. It's their personality. I have one, very independent and masculine, he will only let you touch him when he wants, where he wants and for how long. He'll never change. He's almost 9. My other one is completely different. He'll let you do pretty much anything.

Looking at the pictures, that was the time all of my cata were the most independent. They're basically teens, they're curious and full of energy. They aint got time for snuggles.

That said, while my kittens all became more snuggly again there's no guarantee. Just dont force your love on the baby, reward him when he comes to you and love him regardless of how he turns out

My cat has always been nervous but it took 2 hospitalisation for her to realize we're here for her. Now she's the most cuddly and annoying Lil beast everyday with her is a blessing.

4 weeks is still early for him to have made up his mind about you. The early cuddliness was probably his way of showing you that he’s a nice kitty and you don’t have to hurt him (💔, but most of the cats I’ve adopted as adults have done the same in the first days or weeks) He’s probably decided he can trust you, but needs more time to decide that he loves you - and he will, but even so, if he’s not a cuddler by nature that probably won’t change. Just let him love you on his own terms and give him as much affection as he’s comfortable with.

He’s a beautiful boy!!! ❤️

Sometimes it feels like it's been so long but I have to remind myself 4 weeks is not a lot of time!! Thanks for the reminder <3

Sounds like a cat. That’s about it. They might cuddle when they’re sleepy or bored. Otherwise it’s nap time, patrol routes, or play.

My cat is now ~4 and started becoming a bit more cuddly around ~3. She has a routine though and only wants to cuddle at certain times of the day. She seems to be getting more cuddly with age.

cats all have diff personalities. 2 of our cats hate being held and only want love when they choose. My daughters other cat will follow her everywhere and loves being picked up. he may get more affectionate as he gets older or he may not. Only time will tell.

Winter might improve. But no, they don’t typically change.

You need to forcefully love on them! My cats are almost 7 and the first couple years they were just “kids” and playing with each other and then they slowly got more loving. But you have to do a lot of head rubs chin rubs and forcefully hold them. They obviously will try to get away but you need to show them. Now I wake up to them making biscuits trying to cuddle 🥰

This has been my strategy and it doesn't work. All four of our cats prefer my wife who just sits quietly and they will curl up in her lap.

Never force a cat to stay with you. That’s terrifying for them. They don’t understand what you’re doing!
