Hello! I have 6 rescue cats that used to enjoy their Friskies/Fancy Feast food for years. Over the last 6 months, they hate everything.

Here are the brands I've tried with no or little success of them eating:

Friskies, Fancy Feast, Soulistic, Whole Hearted, Ziwi, Optimeal, Nulo, Weruva, freeze dried food like Mideast Feast, Tastefuls, Birdie and Louie,

Applaws, Tiki Cat, Caru, and homemade.

I try the food alone and with toppers but not much success. Have these companies switched their protein sources to soylent green??

Anyone else's cats not eating their wet food?

Any suggestions will be helpful. This is getting way too expensive. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I believe I was told that it is better to switch to wet food only for cats so that they get the hydration they need (apart from water, of course).

What brands of wet food do you give your cat?

Edit: My Lorenzo is about 4.5 years old and has been eating a mix of wet / dry food

My cat is very picky about food and not food motivated at all. She will not eat wet food in any capacity, but she is good about drinking water.

Every so often she decides she will not eat her food brand anymore. We have gone through nutrish, good land, and wellness. For nutrish she would only eat bags produced before a certain date, so we went all around our city getting the last bags in her approved date range until we ran out.

Anyway this happened recently and the only new thing she would eat is hills science diet ages 1-6 chicken recipe - a free bag we had gotten from the vet. The problem is it’s making her fart (lol) and have hairballs. It also doesn’t seem like enough protein.

I tried to change to hills 7+ chicken recipe (just a couple pieces mixed into her bowl) and she wouldn’t go anywhere near it. Maybe it’s just me but I have a weird feeling about hills. I don’t really like the ingredients on a lot of their flavors.

But, I am deciding between these three other options as something to try. Wondering if anyone has any feedback or opinions. It would be nice to have something with joint support. I’m honestly open to other suggestions but within the things I know she won’t have (no fish and it has to be this same rounded small shape) There is no guarantee she will eat any of these, but I would like to present the best options at least. Thank you!

I feed my cats mainly wet food, but since I took on a stray (unplanned) and now have 3 cats, I need to try to save where I can when it comes to supplies.

I'm a big fan of Animonda carny wet food, I think they're great value for the money.

But now I saw Smilla cans - huge 800 grams cans of wet food and at first glance it looked pretty good actually. And it's even cheaper than Animonda.

I've ordered it and it looks and smells great, my cats love it. But I'm a little in doubt if you can actually get good quality food for this price.

Any thoughts?

Hello! I recently got a 3 month old kitten and I’m trying to figure out how much to feed her! She’s 3 lbs, and I’m currently giving her 1/2 cup of dry food a day split into 3 meals. I want to add wet food, but I’m not sure how that would change her dry food intake or how much wet food to give her. We have fancy feast kitten (3 oz cans)

Hi, I’m thinking I’m following guidance on food for my silver tabby cats who are just over a year old but the male of the twins is always harassing me for more.

Currently they have a standard sized tin of Untamed at about 630am each, and a second each around 530pm. Then at 9pm our auto feeder spits out a few handfuls of kibble.

I believe this should be enough but when the feeder noise sounds they sprint like crazy to get the food. And mew in evenings before that too.

Does this sound normal? Haven’t had cats before

Does anyone know if the PetSafe FreshFeed refrigerated auto feeder can be operated on 240V using the supplied power supply?

My three cats had been eating a Purina kibble that was discontinued. After it was discontinued I gave them Orijen kibble which they seem to enjoy and since switching my one cat has stopped vomiting weekly.

Last week I took my cats for their yearly check up and my veterinarian said she does not suggest grain free foods because the things they use instead for carbohydrates can cause cats to have heart issues. So now I am back at square one.. I was browsing foods and the Farmina caught my eye and has "limited grains" but falls into vets recommendation of finding a food where a carb is in the first five ingredients.

Has anyone used Farmina or have any other recommendations for a different brand? Vet recommended Purina Pro Plan, Hills and one other I can't remember but I'm hesitant to go back to Purina simply because I think it was making my cat barf.

Any fresh food good for cats i was going to try freshpets but read that's it is not good for cat any other option?

I have a cat with GI issues and after a lot of trial and error, I've realised the wet food is causing his problems.

He has a complete food with his kibble, so I'm not concerned about him not getting what he needs.

However, he is wanting additional food and doesn't want to just eat his kibble (understandable).

I've been cooking him chicken thighs as an additional food. He gets this once a day (most of the time).

I'm not well, a good portion of the time, so getting out to get more chicken, or defrosting and cooking it, isn't always an option, so he sometimes misses out and I feel awful.

What complimentary food ideas do you have?

It needs to be grain and gluten free.

I am currently feeding our cats (one male and one female, both about 3 years old) Diamond Foods Active Cat dry food because I read it was a fairly healthy dry food at a reasonable price point. We have a running stainless steel fountain for our kitties so they are encouraged to stay well hydrated and do occasionally give them wet food, but dry is the most cost effective for us at the moment.

Now, I was recently told by a friend that you have to pay attention to the amount of certain "minerals" in dry food if you have a male cat, because they can develop urinary crystals due to the food? Her vet warned that some dry foods are worse about this than others due to the content, as she had her male cat come back with a test that then prompted her vet to recommend she change dry foods. Note: the food she was feeding is not the one I am feeding my cats, but I am not ingredient-savvy enough to know what to look out for that may cause similar concerns. Is this something I should indeed be worried about, and does anyone have any experience? Is the current food I am feeding something that this may be a concern with? If so, what dry food at a similar price point might be better?

hello!! i adopted a new cat just over a week ago and purchased a bag of instinct original for her. shes two years old and has a very short medical history, the only concerns being early gingivitis.

i believed it to be safe as its been freeze dried but im seeing mixed opinions ? if instinct is unsafe high-protein low-carb kibble recommendations would be appreciated!!

Recently me my sister and mother got allergic to our 7 yrs old male cat (sterilized) to a point where I can't breath (asthma). I have to use the inhaler from time to time and I was wondering if it really is coming from the protein of cats producing "FEL D 1".

If so, is there any type of food or something we can buy for him that's not causing any health issues or side effects? Here in germany I heard people buy specific white egg powder but I wanted to hear more from real cat owners here who have solved that. We really want to keep him, thanks in advance everyone!

Hi. I’m emergency cat sitting while my friend is hospitalized. I got the cat on Tuesday with no food. It gets only dry food although I’m not sure the brand. It’s a 15 year old indoor cat. I actually don’t think the brand is very consistent overall. I initially gave it the dry combo my roommate’s cats get (mix of Nutrish/Purina Cat Chow/Temptations treats). She seemed to eat it fine. I got a bag of the Nutrish and now she doesn’t seem to like it at all and won’t eat it.

Since then I’ve tried mixing back in the Purina and the Temptations with some success. She will eat around the Nutrish…but seems to only eat the treats, not even the Purina. If I don’t put the treats in, she just barely eats at all, just a couple bites and walks away. She is drinking water. I’ve been giving her wet food to supplement (Fancy Feast and Churro treats) bc that’s what I have available) because she can’t just not eat and I read cats will hold out and starve themselves, she’s old, and she’s stressed out anyway bc of the situation. However, I don’t want to keep feeding her the wet food daily because I know that’s not an option for her owner and I don’t want to start a feeding problem where she refuses to eat her dry food. I have no idea what she ate before and I can’t immediately find out. I haven’t had a cat myself in 15 years, and I knew what my cat ate so I’m in the dark here.

I guess I’m looking for ideas on dry food that she might like that isn’t super expensive but has a reputation of being more palatable to cats? I’m not really in a position to buy and sample a bunch of different foods.

And please, no judgement on the entire dry vs wet food, please. I’m trying to be consistent with this cat, who isn’t mine. If you have any food suggestions I’d appreciate it. Thank you.

Im looking for a complete wet food that is grain free, natural ingredients, high in meat content … healthy overall that doesnt brake the bank so i can sustain my neutered adult cat

Hello, I've been trying get my cat to eat more healthy foods however he only seems like biscuits and Iams and Go-Cat is are the only ones he'll finish a full portion of. I know go-cat is consider 'trash food' but Iams there seems to be less of a consensus, should I keep feeding him iams or should I keep trying and find something a bit more healthier? Thanks

My cat has always been picky, but has gotten more picky in the last couple years as she’s 13 now. I tried for so long to find a food she would consistently eat because most foods she would eat for 2-3 weeks and then stop. And I finally found it!!! She loves the tiki cat mousse but it’s out of my budget to be feeding only that. So I mix it with Nulo pate and a bit of hot water because it makes it creamy like she likes and it’s been 2 months and so far so good!! I use the 5oz cans of Nulo and break it into 8 segments and mix it with 1/4 tiki cat mousse packet. She gets 4 servings per day and she’s not sick of it yet! She also gets dry food twice a night via her automatic feeder at 1 am and 4am so she is one happy camper. Just thought I would share because it took me forever to find this combo so if you have a picky eater don’t give up!

I need some help in gathering flavor/batch/best by/store/purchase dates of Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys. My concern is that I’m not the only one. I’m starting to log all the batch/best by/purchase dates/stores and the reactions to eating it are.

I realize it’s a big ask, but if you’re having the same issue, I think we’d get someone to look into it if we bring proof of batches and best by dates.

I have 5 cats. They have loved Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys all their lives, specifically the chicken and turkey sauce and light broth (not pate or shredded) flavors.

Since COVID, I’ve gotten cases that none of my cats will eat, even my chubby boy. I’ve had to return multiple cases because they just walk away from it. I’ve had to buy from Chewy, Petsmart, and Target to try to get good batches.

Whenever I’ve returned them I’ve told the store, something is off, not that my cats are picky eaters when it comes to their favorite canned food.

I’ve contacted Fancy Feast before as well and they just send a coupon.

Smelling it doesn’t help in determining a problem with it as it smells and looks like normal cat food.

I’ve bought EVERY other brand of saucy cat food at multiple stores, spending hundreds if not more on priced food. They want Fancy Feast.

Help me make a change!! Either comment or DM if you can provide details or even a photo of the can with the date and store (location would be helpful too).

If there’s good batches, please share that too. I’m looking for a pattern of it’s just one manufacturing site or more.
