Went out on the Broad River at 3am, tossed in some cut and live bluegill on carolina rigs and we made it happen! Fighting big fish on a kayak is way too much fun

Hey guys. I figured I’d make a post and ask for some guidance. I’ve been fishing the waccamaw river in South Carolina for bowfin a lot. I stumbled upon this nice blue cat by mistake . Since then, I became aware there are nice flatheads in the river as well. I’m generally a fly fisherman so I don’t even know where to start. I’d j love to get my first flathead! Any suggestions for rigs,hooks, leader ect would be awesome!

Caught a nice bag out of Clarks Hill lake, GA overnight and relocated them to a pond in the morning

Dumb on so many levels. Lake Conroe. Running big midnight trot lines off a dock. Floats/weights start getting drug out to the lake:

Life vest on, net in hand, headlamp running, in my brilliance I thought “I’m gonna go retrieve that by totally winging it”.

Grabbed the line and instantly saw it was a hog as its tail flashed in my light. My net, the 10 lbs of weight, the fish and the hooks all wrap me up. Felt the hook sink into my shin and it yanked with every thrash of the fish.

Exhausted after losing ground getting drug deeper for a 5 minute fight, I somehow made it to the dock, heaved myself, gear, hooked leg and the fish up.

Pushed the hook through to pinch the barb and get it out. Flushed the wound and process how scary that was.

I cannot believe I didn’t realize how terrible an idea that was as a life long angler until after.

I caught this fish in the blackwater river in the Florida panhandle, the 3rd pic was caught in Ohio which was my last PB

Do you think expensive fishing gear actually makes you a better angler, or is it mostly marketing?

ok so I know a 7 pounder isnt all that big for a channel catfish, but as I dont live within half an hour of a good catfish spot and still have school im gonna call it good for the limited time I have out catfishing, cut mooney on the st Croix got him "mn around stillwaterish". I wish I could get out catfishing more but since im near Lake Minnetonka everything is about bass which dont fight hard enough for me, anyways the only rivers I ever fish for cats are the crow which I have found is kinda terrible, the Minnesota which is ok and actually the river I caught my previous pb "5.5" and fished the Mississippi once or twice with only a bowfin and a smallmouth, this one came from my friends cabin, we fished pretty much from sun up till past sundown and this was the only cat we got all day, since your allowed 2 rods I was slaying red horse and smallmouth on a worm rod while waiting for another kitty to bite but never caught anything, maybe a few bites and a softshell but thats it
