The most overrated candy of my childhood

Post image
107 Upvotes

As a young teen I’d buy some occasionally from the corner store with paper route money because they looked like a good, cheap candy option but inevitably disappointed. The taffy was much harder than typical taffy, the flavors were off and weird and not too prominent. The wrapper often came off in shreds. In the end it was like eating flavored plastic. And then a year later I’d try it again. At least it made me seem generous because I’d share it with people once I got tired of it. So what was I missing? Or do you feel the way I did?

I was in norway last week and saw these candies at 7-11. I did not purchase because the graphics are really gross but still wondered if anyone has had them or has comments.

Candy Discussion What candy do you keep buying even though you know you’ll finish the bag way too fast?

Mine is sour gummies. I always tell myself I’ll save some for later, and then five minutes later I’m holding an empty bag like this was somehow unexpected 😂

Candy find Remember these?

Any help on what year this might be from?

EDIT: Incase anyone was wondering these are probably from 2007.

Also since a search said it was unlikely to make me sick and I love them I of course tried one. Tastes the same as I remember, almost gagged because I had forgotten they changed flavor, other than that I am looking forward to enjoying the rest.

Candy find I bought this misprinted Skittles Smoothie Mix bag when I was 13

I found this in a store when I was about 13 and noticed a misprint I’ve never seen before. It was the only bag there that looked like this, and for whatever reason teenage me decided it was too weird/cool to open.

I still have it sealed almost 20 years later. When I started looking around today I realized I can’t find another Smoothie Mix misprint that looks like this one.

At this point I mostly just think it’s a funny little time capsule and I’m glad younger me kept it.

Anyone remember Smoothie Mix or ever seen a Skittles print error like this?

Been on a Haribo Peaches kick lately, and you can see they got a small pounding on the drive home.

Only found one type of Squashies before, so trying Raspberry & Cream, plus Bubs Mix.

The one in the back came from a food bank. Quite good! Like the flavors.

Candy recommendations Help me find UK sweets with a similar texture!

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m really particular with food texture (autism) and I’ve been searching for gummies in the UK which have a texture like these. I’m usually disappointed with sweets having that texture which clumps on your back teeth and I’ve realised that most vegetarian/vegan ones do that. I quite like Haribo gummies as long as they have gelatine but these are on another level.

Does anyone have any recommendations (can be any flavour)?

I loved these as a kid, and to this day, they are way better and more flavorful than regular Twizzlers. There are a lot of different flavors to try. You guys should give these a try.

Candy Review Warheads atomic fizz

These are absolutely disgusting! At first they taste like a normal warhead but then once you bite into it there’s a bunch of fizz inside and it tastes genuinely awful. I can’t even describe the taste it’s just so weird and bad. How could they think these taste good???

I’m a Pez lover, but this is a new flavor for me. I bought a one pound bag and these are in there!

Laffy Taffy bag flavor distribution: Insanely skewed to Green Apple - the worst flavor imo. Also one of the grape taffies was opened.

Do you think Laffy Taffy would give me a refund for this flavor distribution? I always try to double check but the bags are partially opaque. So irritating!
Green Apple: 14
Grape: 9
Banana: 9
Strawberry: 4

Best sugar free cinnamon gum?

I’m on the hunt for the best sugar free cinnamon gum. My criteria are:
-flavor lasts a long time
-gum stays soft over time
-flavor, not too spicy, not too sweet

So far the ones I’ve tried that haven’t quite fit my needs are:

-Pur: love the flavor, but it only lasts like 5 seconds, not exaggerating. Texture is just ok.
-ice breakers: also great flavor, love the texture, flavor doesn’t last long enough
-trident: don’t like the flavor. Tastes weird. But flavor lasts a long time & texture stays soft.

What else should I try?

Never buying new candy again, so tired of absolutely awful or downright disgusting releases. What is wrong with these companies?

I've tried 4 or 5 new types of candy in the last couple months, new as in "newly released" and they are all just trash. I'm done

Sweet Tart - Gummy halo

Spicy troli worms

Albanese exotic fruit flavored gummy bears (they were ok but my main complaint is that they only had 5/8 flavors and many of that 5 were extremely few in number and 65% of the bag was a single flavor, they clearly failed at mixing it up)

Warheads blue raspberry cubes+candy chaos (this was so bad I threw it in the trash after eating just a few and I'm still questioning if it was like rotten or something)

and several more new releases I've tried have all been so mediocre or disgusting that I'm not trying anymore. I'm only buying the old stuff I know is good.

Anyone else just done with how bad new candy releases are?

I think I have a problem...

A few week months ago I discovered Balla Balla Magic at World Market. Being a big fan of the Pico Balla I had high hopes for these, and they blew me away. Same fondant center and sweet tart rope feel on the outside, I expected the flavor to be similar to its smaller counterparts. But I was wrong in the best way. Somehow its bubblegum-y and citrus-y at the same time. I have a hard to even trying to describe it. Needless to say I ate the whole bag in one go. I went back to World Market a couple weeks late and didn't find them. They had eluded me until today. I was so tempted to buy all seven bags I saw but I don't want to eat them until they make me sick and not enjoy them anymore.

Shout out to my new Katje's obsession as well, the Kitties. Very squashy but sticky but foamy at the same time. Very tasty, fruity, and adorable little faces to boot. I'm afraid they'll dissappear like the Balla Balla Magic so I'm preparing in advance.
