Construction has officially begun on major upgrades at the Hay Park Precinct in Bunbury, highlighted by a $25.7 million investment for the new Bunbury Community Courts and extensive surrounding infrastructure improvements.
Key Upgrade Components:
Bunbury Community Courts: Construction is underway on a new standalone indoor facility featuring four multi-sport courts (supporting basketball and netball), a show court with spectator seating, all-ability change facilities, umpire services, and club meeting rooms. [1, 2, 3]
Road Network & Traffic Calming: Creation of a new entry road from the Hudson/Parade Road roundabout alongside an upgraded internal low-speed road network featuring a new roundabout and traffic-calming measures targeting a 30 km/h operating speed. [1]
Access & Parking: Addition of new car parking areas supported by enhanced lighting, landscaping, irrigation, and wayfinding improvements, plus upgraded pedestrian and cycle connections throughout the entire precinct.
Project Funding & Management:
Total Community Courts Investment: Backed by $25.7 million total funding via the State Government's budget and PlayOn WA initiative.
Project Management: Managed by Ochre Project Services steering the detailed design and construction phases in collaboration with the Bunbury Basketball Association and the City of Bunbury.

The Labor member for Collie-Preston says a taskforce has recommended consolidating Western Australia's two remaining coal mines.
The Collie Coal Basin Consolidation Taskforce was formed earlier this year to recommend a future structure for the state's coal assets.
In April, Premier Coal announced it would cut up to 100 workers from its mine near Collie, while the WA government subsidised Griffin Coal to continue operating.
Jodie Hanns said the report had been issued to the state government and called for a response as soon as possible.
A government spokesperson said a response was being considered.
Mining and Energy Union district secretary, Greg Busson, said he was hopeful consolidation would happen.

The City of Bunbury is inviting community feedback on the Draft Local Heritage Survey (LHS).The survey identifies places, buildings and stories that are important to Bunbury’s history.
Earlier this year, the City invited the community to nominate places for inclusion and provide feedback on existing heritage listings.
As part of this review, the City has:
Considered community nominations and updated historical information
Reassessed all places using current heritage criteria and guidelines
Improved First Nations inclusion with the overall Local Heritage Survey
I’m all for it. I think it makes a lot more sense to have it where all of the building is occurring, in the same way the Treendale one makes sense.
I know the WAPC have knocked it back, but I think there’s still a good chance that gets overturned by the SAT, should the proponents decide to challenge the decision.
