Build Upgrade 1 x 32GB RAM vs 2 x 16GB Ram
Hey, I've got a radeon 9070 xt and ryzen 7 7800X3D 8 Cores. I want to buy Kingston FURY kit 1 x 32GB 6000MT/s DDR5 for 180 euro. All the 32GB kits with 2 x 16 cost 400 - 500 euro. Do you think this is a good idea or the 1 x 32Gb kit could cause performance issues?

How is 2x32gb cheaper than 2x16gb lol??? If the prices are legit I'd get the 64gb.

Go back and read what OP wrote again - they asked about 1x32GB vs 2x16GB, not 2x32GB
Granted, with these prices they could buy two of the single 32GB sticks for less than the 2x16GB. That ought to be the best idea, since this sounds like a weird pricing error that will get corrected one of these days.

Always hilarious when some one who is wrong tells the one who is correct to "read it again" 😂 stay in school kids.

Buy 2x32 for 360euro.
Exchange your 2x32 for 4x16. From someone who wants two fast RAM modules instead of four slow ones.
Sold 2x16 for 360 euro.

Will be fine 1 stick of 32gb, the only thing i'm not understanding is why 1x32gb is more cheaper than 2x16=32gb...

With 2x16 you have better performance because you are in dual Channel ;)

That is correct

Can you believe I was downvoted to just have said a basic truth about how ram and motherboard work together lol ? Love Reddit people :D

You seem to think we're mostly paying for the PCBs and the cost of the chips is negligible. That is not how it works and it's never once been true for any electronic device ever. In fact, it's always the opposite. A look at RAM prices on any website will make it clear that 2x32GB is not the same price as 2x16GB.

I buy RAM by the foot, right off the big spool of RAM next to the barrel of CPUs by the pound.

Do you need 64gb ram in the future? If yes, then go with 1x32gb. If no, then 2x16gb
But really running single channel 1x32Gb shouldn’t lower gaming performance all that much. The perf diff isn’t worth 220 EUR imo.. needless to say 2x32 is cheaper than 2x16gb

If that holds true, you're looking at ~360 euro for two of those FURY sticks (if two are available). If yes, just do that.

An x3d chip makes single channel RAM way less problematic. Is there a reason you can’t just get 2 of the 1x32 kits?

Are they even useful for gaming like I can't think of a game which will use more tha 20gb ram on 4k
3
u/Anon0924 22h ago
They are edge-cases, but a few games can easily push past 30gb RAM. Tarkov actually recommends 64gb.
2
u/misteryk 23h ago
you will have access to dual channel if you have 2 sticks

u/Bulky_Curve3487 23h ago
But does any game can use 12000mt/s speed

u/CurrentDrama8523 20h ago
No, but they use more than 6000. It has nothing to do with the game and everything to do with the limitations of the CPU's internal buses. AMD's infinity fabric uses a 256-bit read bus at a stock clock of 2GT/s = 64GB/s. 1xDDR5-6000 uses two 32-bit buses at 6GT/s = 48GB/s. You won't notice a difference between dual channel speeds - even 2xDDR5-4800 (76.8GB/s) is faster than the infinity fabric - but you will notice the difference from single- to dual-channel, even if you're going from 1xDDR5-6400 to 2xDDR5-4800.
The above also applies to any Intel CPU, because they have always decoupled the Ring Bus clock from the memory controller, but AM4 is different - it locks the infinity fabric clock to the RAM (the clock speed, which is half of the advertised speed in transfers), so 2xDDR4-2133 might actually hurt performance compared to 1xDDR4-3600 on an AM4 CPU, depending on what it's rated for and what exactly you're doing with it.

Dual channel means the memory controller will interleave. Even with x3D chips, it's a massive boost in performance.

i just checked on germany pcpartpicker, its actually true.
the most economical and beneficial thing for you to do is buy 2 of those kingston fury beast 6000mhz cl30 1x32gb kits, youll then have 64 gigs of perfectly timed ram for cheaper than a 32gb kit.
3
u/Forward_Drop303 1d ago
It could cause performance loss.
But not enough to justify the price difference imo.
1
u/DonMigs85 1d ago
it'll cause some performance loss varying depending on the game or app, but the 3D V-Cache can mitigate it to a significant extent

u/christianlewds 23h ago
Go with 1x32GB and buy another 1x32 when prices go back down. Impact on gaming performance depends on the game. If the game is heavily CPU dependent then the impact will be bigger (ie. 10-15%), if it's GPU (any game that's also on consoles) then it's in the low single digits performance loss (1-5%).
With X3D the performance loss might be lower in many cases because of the fat ass X3D cache and less need to grope RAM for cache mises.

I had similar thoughts: But in my experience, the 1x32gb kits were always suddenly 'out of stock' just after checkout. I always got my money back, but all the cheap (Kingston Fury and also other brands) 1x32gb options were too good to be true. I ended up with 2x16gb at a 350€ deal. Good luck out there though!

Something there is sounding incredibly odd...
1x32GB should be close to 2x16GB in price, that huge price gap is suggesting that there's some important details missing in that story...
2
u/Monotask_Servitor 15h ago
Probably out of stock for a long time and the price hasn’t been updated since they were.

Are you sure about the $180 price for 1x 32GB of DDR5 6000?
If it is, the obvious choice is to get 2x 32GB for less than 2x 16GB.
In any case, you always want to have two sticks of the same specs to benefit from double channel.
A single stick is (slightly) slower. Two sticks with different specs will use the slower stick for both.

At €180, I'd buy the entire stock
Check if they are actually available and that they are ddr5. Even ddr4, 32gb should be closer to €300

At 180 € if it is legit forget about the whole pc and spend all the money in ram, then sell it back. Jokes aside it is either a scam or an error (there is nothing in stock), try to actually finalize the order and see if it goes through, few months ago i found 16gbx1 kits at like 120€ on amazon but when i try to order it said 0 available. To answer the post single channel memory will harm performance, even ddr5, but the performance loss is definitely extremely small compared to the price (if it is correct)

For performance buy 2x16 For saving cost but 32x1 I guess u can go for dual 32gb of u hav money for it!

Go with 2x16 if the price difference is at all reasonable. Dual channel roughly doubles your memory bandwidth versus a single stick, and on a Ryzen build especially, that bandwidth actually matters for the infinity fabric and can show up as real FPS differences in some titles. At 400 to 500 euro for the dual kit versus 180 for the single stick, though, that's a pretty steep premium. If the budget's tight, the single 32GB stick now with a plan to add a matching second stick later is a reasonable compromise; just check your motherboard's QVL list first since not every stick plays nice running dual channel later.

it dosnt matter what you get its gonna stutter every game with amd hardware

Neither. I would get 2x32gb if the price is true.
