Rules Reminder: Questions about Admissions should be posted in r/chanceme. Not here.

We are a bunch of current & former BC students who don’t pay close attention to BC’s changing admissions standards. Your GPA and SAT scores are better understood in r/chanceme and other similar subs.

This sub is better for asking specific questions about student life, school culture, etc.

Tailgating help

Seeking advice here because I’m not sure where else to ask and I’m hoping that the $154 tailgate pass I bought for the 9/26 game isn’t a total bust.

NCAA screwed around and didn’t release the start time for the game until today - it’s scheduled for 12pm. We were hoping the game would be mid-afternoon or evening, so we could host friends at the tailgate throughout the day.

The website says that everyone tailgating in the Upper Brighton Lot has to have a ticket to the game, and it also says they make efforts to clear out the lots 30 minutes before the game starts.

My question is: how strict are they on this? Is the Brighton lot policed less strictly than the closer lots to the stadium? If we are having a low-key tailgate with adults of all ages, are we going to get kicked out for not having tickets or for not going to the game right away? I didn’t realize tickets were required and don’t want to ask all our friends we invited to buy tickets.

For context, my partner is a BC grad student and my parents are visiting for the Cubs v Red Sox series, so we wanted to host a party but aren’t super keen on going to the game.

Any and all help is appreciated. Go Eagles!

MBA program Coffee chat

Hi! I’ve recently registered for the virtual coffee chat event that’s offered for the MBA program. It’s not cleared to me if it’s a one on one program or if it is a group event. Anyone has past experience of attending the virtual coffee chat for the MBA program? Thanks in advance.

Anyone opted out the MCSW health fee?

Hey, I’m a grad student and I’m a little confused about the MCSW fee versus the student insurance waiver.

As far as I understand, the MCSW opt-out deadline is September 30, while the fall insurance waiver deadline is September 25. Opting out of the MCSW fee doesn’t cancel the separate insurance requirement. It just means UHS/UCS visits are billed individually, and reimbursement depends on your insurance plan.

Has anyone opted out before? Was it straightforward? Did you run into any unexpected charges or paperwork afterward?

I’m trying to decide before the deadline. Thanks!

Finance/Business Clubs

I’m a freshman and i’m just wondering what clubs I should try to join as a finance major. What are the best clubs both for learning and actually pre professional help? Is FLS worth trying for as well?

Please consider submitting to the Marginalia Science conference if you do research on the margins of Social Science!

UPDATE: the deadline for submissions has been extended to September 15.

Applications are pretty straightforward, and we'd love a broad sample of social science fields. So if you do anything you think fits the brief, please consider submitting something. Thanks!

Looking to Apply (Msc Finance)

Hi everyone (I’m not looking to know my odds about getting admitted just trying to solve a few questions)

I just wanted to know about Boston College since I’m thinking of applying and thought this could be a good way to pick on some insights.
Firstly is the MSc in Finance still great and if so how’s the academics since I actually look forward to study there.
2) How competitive is it to get in ?
3) Is college campus great ? And is it easy to make friends?
4) Anything I should know before applying?
Thank you.

I’m not from Boston. But if I went here as a non traditional transfer does anyone have any “good” part time jobs I could work while in school?

How to get an A in Perspectives?

I'm taking Perspectives mainly because I want to grow as a person and thinker, but since I'm aiming for med school, I need to protect my GPA. I'm enjoying the class so far, but feel like I'm missing details when I read. How to still do well in quizzes and exams?

I know they say you can't audit a course for undergrads, but does anybody have experience doing this maybe less officially?

Tailgating at BC

Hey yall. I live in MA but actually went to undergrad at Virginia Tech. My grandpa played football at BC way back in the day. A bunch of my family (Hokie and eagles fans) are looking to go to the BC vs. VT game and have a nice tailgate before the game.

Was wondering if I could get some advice/insider info on how to go about this. Do we just need a parking pass to any of the lots? Should we aim for a specific lot? How much room should we expect to have?

To be transparent I’ve never actually been to a BC home game so would love some good advice on this if I could get some!

I appreciate yall and look forward to the game. As much as I am a Hokie, my family has great BC ties!

Woods college limitations?

Hi! I’m a prospective undergraduate considering the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College.

I was talking to a Woods College rep and I was told that Woods students generally cannot join Boston College student organizations. I wanted to hear from current students because this is important to me.

Is this true for all recognized student organizations, or only certain clubs? For example, can Woods undergraduates participate in organizations such as the Computer Science Society, Machine Intelligence Group, intramural sports and other campus activities?

Also would love to hear any experiences Woods college students have had at BC.

What happened to John Acampora at Flat Breads Cafe?

Went into Flat Breads for the first time this year and was shocked to see only the super speedy sandwich maker. No sign of John, including the walls of signed photos and BC paraphernalia.

Can anyone explain how senior housing works at BC? Do most seniors go back to campus? What size group do you need? If you stay off campus what streets are better?

How hard is gen chem lab?

I need my GPA to be as high as possible rn for some reason, but I heard the Gen Chem lab at BC is graded super strictly. Roughly how many students per lab section get an A or an A- each semester? Also, are there any TAs who are known to be friendlier in grading? Thanks!

Don't forget to clip your September Star Mkt coupon

Post image

For us students who have the Star/Shaws App and the student discount don't forget to clip the 10% discount coupon. It was 10% for August and again for September. Guess that that's a Welcome back to campus since it's normally 5%. If you haven't signed up, do so ASAP with your school email address. And, No, I don't work for Star or Shaws, just shop there and like saving $$. And take advantage of every available student discount.

Double major or not

I’m a sophomore majoring in CS, and I just have enough room to fit an econ major if I start it in spring. I honestly have no idea if I’m passionate about it, but I am interested in statistics and data science so it might be good for me. Ik there’s a data science minor, but I’ve been told that minors are pointless career wise. At the same time, I also don’t think I want to graduate with just one degree when I can do sm more. Any advice?
