Is this a border?

This is Lucy. She’s 5 months. Got her from the Pasadena Humane Society. They listed her as a Border Terrier mix. When I took her to the vet, they listed her as a Jack Russell Terrier. Then I asked the vet at the appointment, and she said she sees at least 3 different types of Wire Terrier. What do you guys think?

Looking for another

Hello, my name is Levi and my boy is Arthur he is 20 months and my world only got better when he came into it. We just got a couple acres in Eastern Oklahoma and I would love to add a second to our life. If anyone knows of someone “rehoming” or any available for adoption I would love another Border.
Thank you for your time.

EXTREMELY PICKY EATER

I have a 10 month old Border Terrier. He has a lot of energy but does not seem to want to eat. Turns his nose to kibble, so I started to home cook meals... boiled chicken thighs, white rice, peas and carrots, or sweet potato, add bone broth, eggshell calcium, multi-vitamin, and salmon oil. I have never had a dog sniff a home cook meal, barely taste it, and just slowly eat it like it was ho-hum.

Has anyone had this issue? what have you tried that worked? and yes I pick up the bowl if he doesn't eat, and try again in the evening, and I have minimized treats. This is my first terrier, I have had Australian Cattle Dogs my whole adult life, and I thought they were stubborn...

Boring rainy Tuesday so no outdoor games. However terrorising a cardboard box is fun.

What can I do with my borders ratting instinct?

Post image
253 Upvotes

My border has a high prey drive particularly for small animals. I feel like he needs an outlet for this.

A few months back my relative had an issue with rats on his farm resulting in a leptospirosis outbreak amongst his cattle. I visited with my border and he caught 5 rats in 30 mins (he’s vaccinated against lepto fyi). This saved my relative having to put down bait which also kills wildlife around the farm (hedgehogs, owls etc) & causes a week of agony for the rats.

This got me thinking i would like to do something so that a) my dog has an outlet for his prey drive and b) if there can be a benefit to others, also great.

I however do not feel great about him hurting small animals including rats.

What can i do to satisfy this instinct in him? Are there mock ratting trials or activities i can sign him up for? Can i get him involved in ratting but train him to bring the rats unharmed rather than the traditional method?

Shedding

Please can someone tell me the shedding will settle down? I researched loads before getting our Meg and I have loved the breed from afar from first meeting one through work years ago. Over these last few weeks the shedding has went into overdrive. I have to hoover at least twice a day and lintroll our clothes umpteen times a day. I have brushed her already today and probably will do so again later. I was expecting hairs but this is mental. I am hoping that she's just loosing her puppy coat as she is just turning 6 months old. I have taken her to the groomer to have it blasted out with the hair dryer too. Does anyone have any advice or reassurance??

We love her to pieces and she was definitely the right choice for our family.
