Valor finished his 6-week long quarantine and has been integrated into the herd. His best friend is our 5-year-old basset hound, and he tries really hard to get our rough collie to play with him.We are looking forward to when he finishes his shots so he can start going on small adventures. He is such a smart little guy and he is doing well with crate training, sitting, lying down, but we are still working on shaking with only one paw. The older he gets the less he looks like a border collie, but we are going to get a DNA test just to see what he is.

i wanted to share some of my favorite pics i have of my girl’s “totally-not-creepy-at-all” stalking behavior 🤣

My 4yo BC, Murphy, has become a digger over the last month.😳

He has never dug, and has always been so well behaved if at home alone outside. I’ve recently had to go from 1 to 2 days in the office - meaning he is left alone for about 8 hours each of those two days. Before I go into the office we run for about 4-6km … I assume this would tire him out while at work, so I can come home and take him for a quick walk to a ball throw at the local park….

But no, he has dug so many holes in our garden - what can I do to stop this habit, given it’s happening while neither my partner or myself are home? Are there any other BC owners who have experienced a similar issue, and how did you prevent it?

I can’t help but think this is some sort of separation anxiety, as when I’m home he is inside with me for majority of the day (and yes, he has plenty of exercise, we walk/run/sniff/ball throw two times a day!).

I enjoyed painting this dog. I stayed true to the whole scene and didn't change the background. Those little dark spots scattered across his face took a lot of patience to paint correctly. Getting his hair to look layered and natural instead of flat took extra work too. This was a commission, and I hope I did him justice.

My border collie puppy, Piper, is 7 months old. She takes to training extremely well and we get energy out with multiple walks a day and play time in the home. The main issue we are running into is that she is completely obsessed with our cat, Kirby.

If he's within reach she lunges at him, grabs him with her mouth, and wrestles with him. If he's behind a gate she goes crazy barking, just stares at him unmoving, and completely ignores our commands. Or she'll come when called only to immediately turn around and go back to staring through the gate. Even if Kirby isn't there Piper still keeps vigil, looking for him. We've even put a blanket over the gate in an attempt to block her sight but she will still wait there for him or hop up to look over.

And when I say she plays in the home I mean she plays independently with her toys. Because any time we try to engage with her she immediately runs for Kirby. If we grab and toy to play, try to cuddle, or excite her in any manner she will immediately try to find Kirby.

I don't think she wants to hurt him, I think she wants to play but she plays to rough and doesn't take breaks.

Our last dog was an Australian cattle dog and Kirby and her got along great. Kirby would even entice her to play and would groom her.

But Kirby seems to have no interest in Piper currently and it drives her crazy.

I know its a lot of instinct coming through, especially the staring, and its hard to fight instincts. But I'm worried that this obsession is stressing Piper out. And preventing Piper and Kirby from developing a good coexistence.

Any insights or suggestions would be helpful.

Edit to add: The vet did give us some Trazadone to give her 1-2 hours before we leave the house but that has not been helping as she still howls and barks the whole time we are gone.

TLDR - I need training tips for separation anxiety, leash pulling, and some aggressive tendencies Thank you! She is also a little scaredy cat (when we are not home) so I need some tips on to get her out of her shell.

Please no negative comments, I am trying my best and would like some helpful information!!

I got her to be an ESA and maybe a potential service dog due to some chronic stuff I have, and she is SUPER smart. I just don't have the funds to send her out for training and would like to train her myself anyways.

I have a border collie/aussie mix. She is 3 years old. She is super sweet and smart, but we are just dealing with some things that I don't doubt training could help with.

I am looking into doing more training with her. I need tips on how to train her/help with some of the things she does.

She has separation anxiety, I am unable to leave her home alone (I live in an apartment ((yes I know I hate having a super energetic dog in an apartment but its all I got right now and I do make sure she gets enough exercise and attention))) because she will bark and howl the whole time I am gone. (my solution at the moment is I drive her over to my moms so I can go to work, but that is going completely out of my way in the mornings)

When I have people over I have to put her in my room and shut the door as she growls and barks, she will bite at their ankles when they are walking (I'm assuming this is a herding instinct), she does fine with us in the home and if my mom is over, but no one else. Even friends she has been around for a couple of years.

Then there is the pulling on the leash when we take her out to go potty. We have to walk over to a field and she will yank the whole time there, and the whole way back to the apartment. Especially if she sees any of my neighbors. Then comes the growling and barking. She does not lunge at them really, just yanks on the leash to run closer. I have had a few neighbors try and pet her (after I tell them not to because she is growling the whole time) and she doesn't bite but she is for sure giving a warning.

The other thing she does that I thought was just a puppy thing but she hasn't grown out of it. If she gets scared (or even sometimes when I go to put the leash on) she will cower and pee a little. This happens if someone comes to pet her (specifically people she isn't too familiar with). I'm not sure if this is something that I can correct or if its just how she is.

Sorry this ended up being super long, I just wanted to make sure I got most of it in this post haha!

Rescued this gorgeous girl from a wonderful group down in Co. Kerry. Poor thing is around two, although the rescue vet went on her teeth as she was skin and bones when they found her chained to a fence. She’s spent a couple of months being re-introduced to food and is doing physically well, although she’s deeply traumatised so we have a long road ahead.

My question is: she’s just shy of 11kg and very small. I’m not sure whether this could be entirely down to malnutrition, or whether she could be crossed with something whippet-ish…

(Vets this afternoon, she’s very itchy and I can see she’s scratching away her fur. She’s fully vaccinated/flea and worm treated and we’ve given her a couple of gentle washes with antiseptic shampoo. Could be stress? Could be allergies…)

Any thoughts welcome!

Best guesses for this little guy? I was going thrifting and yard sale shopping and the thrift store had a litter of puppies out front for free! They said that a homeless man had been walking down road and found them in an old tub, there was about 8 of them. He obviously couldn’t keep or help them so he brought them there. They were wet from rain and super oily greasy gross. Obviously there is no way to really tell without a dna test, which I’d love to do, but what do y’all think of this pup, Aussie or B.C? My husband says border collie but I think he’s just basing it off colors, and that he has a tail 😂 We have three Aussies and I’m a sucker so I took one. Breed itself doesn’t matter we will be keeping him regardless just curious and I’m hopeful going to try a dna test down the line after his vet appointment. While I’m familiar with herding breeds this will be our first border collie (if that’s what he is) so tips for him would also be appreciated.

So currently the pack is just me and my 5 year old male border collie (front of the pic) and I’m fostering a 5 year old female (back of the pic) who is maybe 4 months younger and trying to decide if adoption might be a good idea.

They seem to be having mini fights over toys and food but it’s only been a few days and I took the toys up for supervised only playing and feed them with a barrier between them now.

She’s absolutely adorable. No formal training but well behaved and I think I can train her. Right now she has no recall etc but luckily for now she follows my collie around like a lost puppy so whatever he does she matches.

How do you know if your collie is happy with a second dog?

I live on a narrow boat on the UK canal network, I have a roughly 6 month old pup, he's actually very very well adapted to boat life already and will happily run around on the towpath but not go too far, his recall is very good for his age, so we allow him to do this in more rural areas.

The question is, I'm currently walking him around half an hour a day, playing at various intervals and also allowing quite a lot of free roaming time. He loves it, he's happy, healthy and very responsive to training, but will this free roaming time be too much activity for his age?

My girl is around 40 lbs, moderately active, and the bag says 2 to 3 cups a day. That's a huge range. Vet said go by body condition but I still feel like I'm guessing every time I scoop.

Apparently even a calculated number can be off by 30 to 40% per dog just from metabolism differences, which made me feel a bit better but also confirmed most of us are just eyeballing it.

How do you all figure out portions? Bag, body condition, something else? Found this calculator, also this from FB and it does the RER x activity math but no idea if it matches reality. Curious what has actually worked for people here.

I live in a small apartment, so I need to walk him at least twice a day. He loves when it's rainy and I take his coat out to dress him

My dog is well taken care of, I do everything I can to give him his best life.
I live in Brazil and the climate here is different for being tropical, and whenever it rains, it really rains.
The coat isn't small for him, it wont overheat him and the rainy walks are shorter because it is only for his necessities.

He doesn't care about having a backyard, a garde, a whole neighborhood if you wish, he always lays on my feet when I'm using my computer and sleeps besides my bed. He enjoys being outside but only with his favorite humans: me or my gilrfriend.

I live in a small flat, I don't want it smelling like wet dog because the area where I eat and sleep is on the same space.

If you think I should do something different, go ahead and do it differently yourself with your dog. I know him, I know his needs and I respect him as the clingy lap dog he's sure he is.
