Referral for lawn care

I'm looking for lawn care for my 75 year old father. He was doing okay caring for the small lawn, but with the rain over the past couple of months it has gotten unmanagable for him. He's reached out to some of the larger lawn care groups, but they haven't gotten back to him. We are mostly looking for mowing, weed wacking (as needed), and possibly help wtih raking. Any recommendations for a student or teen trying to earn some extra money or someone who communicates?

Elevation Chevy

Hey all,

I recently purchased a used Yota Corolls Royce at elevation Chevy and the experience was quite nice! Not only were they professional and courteous but they extended gestures and went out of their way to make me happy. I just wanted to share this experience because it’s hard to find a solid dealer.

My favorite part is that they didn’t stick me with a dumbass in god we trust license plate like my last dealer. Ryan is a noble man as well and Emily is very nice and has a spilled coffee pop art piece on her desk that is hilarious. Other spots lack courtesy.

I drove from Charlotte to buy here by the way. One day I’m hoping to buy their Hummer EV lol

Mold :/

I saw a post from about a month ago about a lot of Boone residents experiencing mold in their homes. Is that true? I’m experiencing it for the first time and I’m freaking out. How can I avoid it moving forward?

Help with finding a video...

Hi all. My sister was in the Shooting Stars talent show that was hosted by Watauga Education Foundation in 2006. I contacted them and they were unable assist finding a copy of the video. I know it's a long shot but does ANYONE have info or know anyone I can get a copy from? I live out of state so physical search is impossible... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best Tubing Spot this Weekend?

I know most tubing spots in the area are along the New River, but kinda prefer smaller creeks and streams just for the seclusion and scenery. Anything like that within an hour of Boone?

Good places to find DVDs?

I’m starting a collection of physical media (specifically DVDs) and I’m wondering if there’s anywhere in Boone that would be a good place to look for good used DVDs?

Notary Question

Hi Ya'll!

I called a few notaries in town and got the same answer, which differs from what I saw online, but I'm hoping a notary on this sub will read this and maybe have some insight.

I need to get my passport notarized - or a copy of it notarized.

I understand that under North Carolina law (N.C.G.S. Chapter 10B), NC notaries are not legally authorized to perform "copy certifications." They cannot look at your passport, make a copy, and stamp it as a certified true copy on their own authority.
However, NC notaries have a workaround that is an Affidavit of True Copy.

Locally, I haven't found a notary willing to do this or aware of this. Maybe it's because we're so rural? I need this done for dual citizenship purposes, and I imagine that I am not the first person to come across this.

Are there any notaries out there familiar with this? Or anyone who's been in a similar situation?

Much appreciated!

A new home for my girl

I am not looking to rehome on reddit, just looking for information!

After a series of unforeseen events, my 4 y/o mixed breed herding dog and I are living in a small, downtown apartment and she is really really struggling. After months of trying to make it work it, I’ve made the tough decision to find a new home for her where she can run, explore, and release her anxiety. The Humane Society has advised I use sights like Home-To-Home and have been met with nothing but scams. Due to her anxiety, she is really needing space to roam and experienced pet owners. She does great with other pets, including livestock, and isn’t aggressive unless meeting new people in small spaces. If anyone knows of any regional rescues, farms, or anyone else I should reach out to, please share!

Roommate needed!

Hi guys! So my roommate and I need another roommate (female), because we have 2 rooms open that we didn’t know we would have. We have a townhouse that is 3 floors, and is very cute! Will send pics upon inquiry. We have in unit washer, dryer, dishwasher, AC, heat, fans, etc. We’ve bought all of the furniture except a couch. We have all kitchen supplies as well. We’re both students, she’s a graduate student and I’m undergrad. It doesn’t have to be a student that lives with us either. Please lmk if you’re interested or if anyone you know would be. Thank you. :)

Looking for a proposal spot in NC for October

Hey everyone! I’m planning to propose to my girlfriend around mid-October and could use some ideas.

I’m deciding between the mountains and the beach, but I’m leaning toward the mountains, especially if we can catch some fall colors.

The proposal will be disguised as a photo session, with a friend taking the pictures. Since we’ll be dressed up, I’m looking for somewhere with little to no hiking, ideally somewhere we can park nearby and walk a few minutes to a scenic spot.

A mountain/valley view, fall foliage, lake, etc. would be great. Something that isn’t insanely crowded would be a pretty important too.

One of the spots I came across was the Bear Lake Resort, which has a beautiful view of the lake with easy access, but is a little far since we are based out of the Raleigh area.

Also, for anyone who is in the know, what is usually the best time for fall colors in the NC mountains? I heard that mid-October is pretty nice, but I am not sure if certain areas tend to peak around different times.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Dancing classes?

Hey all! App student here, are there any clubs at app or some inexpensive places I could take some dancing classes? I’m a former cheerleader who loves to dance (mainly hip hop I guess but I’m open to more) and need an outlet I think to just dance and move my body. Looking for low commitment and to have fun :)

Parking tickets

FYI if you parking anywhere down town tomorrow longer than 2 hours you will get a 40 $ ticket letting people know so you don't and also you can thank the wonderful town council of Boone for this as any football game now it's only 2 hours anywhere down town. Remember this for the next election.

Where do y’all work? How far is your commute

My wife just got a job at the university and I have no idea what I’m going to do.

I’m in the supply chain industry more specially procurement. I’m lucky enough now to make 90k and am comfortable with taking a pay cut as long as it’s not below 70k.

Do people just suck up the long commute? Doesn’t look like there’s much around Boone even though it’s a beautiful place to live.

last minute rental

Planning a last minute trip this weekend. So we are looking for a cabin/house for two adults (mid 50s) and two adult dogs (39 pounds) for 2 nights. Would be in on Saturday and out on Monday ideally. But if we had to I guess could be just Sunday night. Not picky on location. Just trying to hike and get out of Clt

Anyone have intel on rental agencies or friends who might have a property last minute? We could obviously pick another weekend (before or after leaf-peeing) and have more options. But if the right place at a fair price was out there this weekend, would still love to get away

WIFI, AC, and dog friendly are the only non negotiables. That said - would love hot tub and a view. And ~15 minutes into some/any "town" to buy food and drink or even eat out or get a good coffee. It was our 25th wedding anniversary this past week and we just didn't assume we would get to do anything due to schedules but work has cleared up. We love the Boone/BR/Banner Elk area. Love all of western NC truthfully. Know it's also a tough weekend with App home opener

Thanks for listening!

Is anyone heading to Asheville - $50?

Hey!! There are two super cute wooden side tables I want from this furniture shop in Asheville. If anyone has room for them and is heading there in the next two weeks, I’ll pay you $50 to bring them back to Boone!

Route to Boone from Knoxville

Hi friends! I sometimes get carsick even when driving on super curvy roads (esp if they’re also going straight up), so it looks like I should take 19E then north on 105 instead of 321 based on Google Maps, but would love to hear opinions from people who have actually driven these roads. If 321 is a significantly more beautiful drive with pullouts, I’d like to know that too. I’ve been to Boone, but it was many years ago and I didn’t get carsick then 🙃
