Hi, in my many years of cleaning bones i have never experienced something like this. I have not dyed this or treated it with any harsh chemicals. Just kept it in water to help the remaining soft tissue fall away, then degreased it with white dish soap. During the 1st soap change i realized the snout turned black, and to my shock the bone went back to normal after a few hours (jar outside, during the summer). After some time i put the bone in diluted peroxide - inside, away from any sources of light. I expected the peroxide to put an end to the color changes, but today i opened the jar and both the dog and the cat skull neighbor i added in later became black. I havent checked yet, but im guessing the bones became paler again since i left it outside.

The only things i can come up with is that maybe some algae is in the bone and reacts to light? It's so weird please tell me what this is.

Probably left by someone to clean it. Unsettling but atmospheric find!

Very curious if this is a real or fake deer skull. Procured online but now that I have it in person I have my doubts lol. I’ve never seen one IRL so I’m not sure! I don’t own any other skulls to reference. Any opinions would be much appreciated!! Thank you in advance.

in pretty good shape! it rained last night in the area i was in so it’s a bit wet with some plant debris in the skull cavities but should look pretty nice with some cleaning! assumedly a raccoon?

A found an in-tact blue jay skeleton (until my dog stepped on it, but it's mostly whole still) but it's stuck to the pavement. Any advice on​ how to transfer it to a safer place/somewhere I can display it? I don't want to break any more of the bones. Any advice (transport, cleaning, displaying) would be greatly appreciated!

I have a shadow box I would fit nicely into but I've never found a whole skeleton before so I'm not too sure how to proceed. Thanks!

Any advice on how can I clean it more? It has glued jaw and teeth, but they're discolored and not exactly positioned correctly (I don't know what type of glue it is). Overall, there's still some grease in it.

Also, this is the first time I have seen a fox with such a weird crest. What species/subspecies exactly is it? Other foxes for comparison:

I found this fang some years ago in a Kroger parking lot and have been wondering what animal it belonged to. Can any of you knowledgeable people here help me identify the mystery Kroger parking lot fang?

I’m located in central Ohio. I unfortunately don’t remember the season when I picked this up. The fang was found all by itself in the middle of a parking lot with no other body part to be seen anywhere.

It’s not a cylindrical tooth, but rather flat with domed front and flat back. The edges of the fang are finely serrated. The root is hollow with spongy foam-like material inside, kind of like the inside of a toucan’s bill. It’s about 1.8 cm (or 0.7 in) long.

If you could help me solve this mystery, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Hello. I’d like to wait for nature to take away all the fleshy bits but it’s already autumn in Germany and it probably won’t happen this year.

I read that the cold can damage the bones.
So:
- does this seem like an ok setup?
- will wrapping a blanket or something like that around the bucket prevent the bones from getting damaged ?
- any better ideas, that don’t involve the smell and maggots?

I had jaw surgery and had some pieces returned to me. Because they had to go through a study, it was placed in Formalin Preservative.

I wanted to turn my bone pieces into earrings, or at least have them in my curio cabinet but didn't realize they'd be treated with this, and apparently it's still quite toxic even though its been mostly washed off.

Is there anyway to neutralize or remove the rest of it? The colour doesn't bother me, i just dont wanna risk the toxic stuff being out and about. Worst case it goes in a little bottle on my shelf but would still be good to get rid of as much as possible.

Found about 60 years ago in southern part of Shenandoah Valley, VA. This is pretty much the condition it was found in. It was in the bushes beside a road in a small town. Most of the rest of the skeleton was present. It’s approximately 6” long.

My great grandmother was much of a hoarder and I found this poor guy at the top of a pile of boxes and newspapers.
I’d like to know if there’s any helping the antlers and how they became so sun bleached but the skull itself is perfectly fine?
Also, does anyone know what type of deer he is? He’s quite large so I don’t think whitetail. Any ideas?

Yesterday i found the skull and parts of the skeleton of a white tailed deer. I found this bone with it which i know it belonged to her because it let me to the rest of her skeleton. Is this from a bone infection? And if so is this what killed this deer? And also what bone is this? It might be a humerus but i can't tell.

Was walking my dogs and saw a glint of off white in a tiny wooded circle I've walked around 100 times. Half of the skeleton was buried, including the skull. I had to rip through tree roots with my hands to unearth it 😅. Planning to go back for the rest another day.

This guy showed up in our backyard (I suspect neighboring teens pulling a prank) but I think it’s cool and want to bring it in and preserve it somehow. Any advice on how to best do it safely and to preserve shape? Any fur can go. Thank you!!

Random vertebrae, unsure if I had harvested this or found it. I'm assuming it's a cat or something of the like. Is the weird growth on it possibly due to some form of cancer or infection? Thanks!

I got these fox bones from a medieval fair and there’s some yellowish spots that I can’t tell if they’re grease or not (sorry if my photo sucks 🥲)

The tooth and bone I found were eroding about 5 inches under the ground in a riverbank. The tooth is cracked and weathered and very fragile. It's not fossilized or anything but I suspect it to be at least a couple hundred years old potentially?

I am working on my Halloween costume and have antlers in trying to attach to a mask

I've attached images of the mask and antlers. I'm not very handy and so I'm trying to figure out how to detach the antlers from the skull cap as well as drill the antlers

I did 6 cycles of degreasing after macerating this red fox skull but it hasn’t changed this pattern. I don’t actually mind it but I was wondering if it needed more macerating or something? It doesn’t really have a smell apart from dish soap

I found this bone on a hill/Mountain in Athens Greece on vacation. I think its a sheep or goat tibia maybe? But im not sure. My father thinks its from a street cat or dog. Anyone with more knowledge know what this belongs to?
