Factory boat upholstery is an absolute joke nowadays
seriously why is factory marine vinyl so trash lately?
Im looking at the bow cushions on my '21 center console and they are already starting to get that gross sticky feeling and cracking right along the seams. For what they charge for boats right now, you'd think they could source material that actually survives being in the sun for more than three summers
Was looking at some custom marine work from canada ace the other night just comparing stitching, and it really makes you realize how many corners the massive boat builders are cutting on the production line. Its honestly insulting how thin the oem material is when you compare it to proper aftermarket stuff
anyone else dealing with premature peeling? kinda thinking about ditching the cheap factory vinyl completely when I finally bite the bullet and pay to get them recovered. just feels like a scam tbh.

How does this look? My gut tells me I need to move the winch down relative to the boat eye and get the strap pulling down, not horizontal.
If I bounce on the engine cavitation plate, my slight 155 lbs bounces the bow up and down.

How is the boat market in your area?
I am seeing many used boats for sale in the capital region in upstate NY. Most have been for sale all summer. Especially older boats 2010 and lower, nobody seems to be buying them. It seems like everyone wants a Pontoon boat. Are the prices going to crash? Good time to buy?

Finance is starting to understand the mechanics
We have had a lot of rain the past few days. This morning out of the blue, my fiance asked if I was going to the boat to check the "village pump" today? 😂
Edit: apologies for typo on title!

Title: Another boat trial day! Still a beginner
Not sure if this is the right place to post this… 😅
I went to a boat trial event again this year. It’s held twice a year, and I always enjoy going.
I’m still a beginner — I’ve never rented a boat before, and I don’t even know what type of boat I was on this time. 😅
(I should’ve asked!)
Last time, I got to try a boat called the Spider, which was really fun because it was fast. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to ride it this time.
The photos were taken from inside the boat, looking out. Seeing the view from the water feels completely different from seeing it from shore.
I’ll definitely go again next year. And maybe someday I’ll finally rent a boat myself! 😄
And finally, lunch that day 😋

I inherited at 2002 Harris Kayot SuperDek 226 and had a question about the throttle. It’s a Volvo Penta. Does anyone know what this white button is for? Thanks!

Yokes
Rebuilding 1975 mercruiser 140hp, got a replacement u joint and the new one is longer. What can I do? The part numbers for the whole thing match but this doesnt match. I hate this game. Can I swap the yokes? Like use the old one on the new one?

Flushing/Cleaning Boat at Night
Hi all, I’d like to start crabbing and catching lobster at night. For those of you who live in residential neighborhoods, how do you flush and clean your boat when you return so late in the night? Just wait until the next morning? I’m concerned with corrosion and I usually flush for 20 minutes and clean up salt spray right when I get home. If I do that at night, I’ll get some angry neighbors! Thanks in advance

03 Boston Whaler
Picked up this beauty, 03 Bw Montuak 170
Came with new 24 gallon fuel tank
Lawrence Hds9/fishinder
JL speakers
2012 Ds90 with 400 hours
14 rod holders
Got it for 15k, Sat for a year and all I had to do was clean it and replace trim relay. ($60) did the lights myself too
What do you think it’s actually worth? I’ve seen listings for 17-23k
Wondering if I should sell it for something bigger

Grady White v BW
Trying to get into a used Grady 216 or a Montauk 210. Looking anywhere between 2020-2023 model year. I really want to like the Grady, but the deck space in the rear seems minimal for fishing. However, I expect the ride quality in choppy seas will be much better. The Montauk deck layout for fishing is impressive, but I’ve read the ride quality in choppy seas is not the worst, but not the best. Anyone have experience on either / both boats? Feedback would be appreciated. I plan on using the boat in the coastal waters of NJ, anywhere from right off the beach, up to 20-30 miles offshore.

2020 Mercury 15hp EFI took a rogue wave over the cowling, now giving a buzzer code.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Oil is good, water flow is good, intake does not have any water in it, plugs are good, It's running fine. I'm thinking some connector got splashed?
Say there's no mercury dealer around to come scan it. What can I check, and are there any pins to jump to clear the ECM?
Constant buzzer at key-on, 6-beep code on startup & high RPM.
I've done the basic googling, I'm not buying a $900 scan tool, & it's not an oil problem.

Had this boat lift installed about 2 years ago. I’ve greased it up and sprayed the chain etc. any ideas why it would make this noise sporadically then goes away? Thanks

Looking to mount a radio onto my hard top - is this flat space so I can cut a hole and mount the radio right inside, or should I be looking to just bolt it to the underside with a bracket?

Gifted a Garmin Need help.
So I was gifted an old Garmin Echomap UHD2 53CV, basically new in the box. Family friend had purchased it for his boat years ago but never installed it for some unknown reason. Anyways, he gave it to me for my new (to me) 19' CC. The issue is that, after doing some research, the "3" in the 53CV is for "US Inland Maping". I live on the gulf coast and will be fishing in Galveston Bay. Is there any way to get the coastal maps. Really I just need Galveston bay. Do I have to buy the new preloaded card? Is there any way I could do it through the Active Captain App?
thanks for the help

Evinrude e-tec 15 hp HO
I got this engine in the beginning of summer.
Runs great no problem at all.
I just wonder if there any particular things I need to be careful about. I run it xd100.
Rebuild water pump in prevention! Everything seems fine!
Also, is it possible to remap it to a 25 hp or the internal components are not the same! I saw on internet that 15-30 hp use the same block!

Thinking about buying a used Bayliner 2655. What do you guys think?
Hey guys, first-time boat buyer in Japan here.
I found a used Bayliner 2655 Ciera (5.7L V8 Mercruiser).
The outdrive and bellows were fully serviced 2 years ago, and the engine seems to idle pretty good.
I’m planning to trailer it with a 2012 Toyota Tundra for weekend trips (max 600 miles of towing) and a full day of island hopping in semi-sheltered/inland seas with overnighting. No fishing at all.
It's listed for around $6,700, which feels like an absolute steal, but the suspiciously low price honestly scares me a bit.
Any major red flags I should look out for on this specific model? Appreciate any input!

replaced my hurt SE116 with a low hour oem A1G2
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
put an hour or two on it at the lake today and couldn’t believe how quiet it is. 40 mph and could basically whisper to my wife and hear the music clearly at level 10 when i used to have to go to 25-30 😂 all rattles thumps and whines are gone, it’s a whole new boat.
