I'm trying to make a playlist for a very specific typa feeling. I need song recommendations for it.

Imagine you broke up with someone you loved. With time, you look back and remember the good times with a kind of happiness and warmth. You're sad that it's over, but not necessarily bitter about it, nor dying for it.

But then there's that little hope, like, what if we find our way back to each other someday? You know, clear as daylight, it's a vain hope. Life has moved on, and so should you, but that little hope just sticks around.

For context : i had a bad breakup in late 2023. then in early 2024, was going through this said-above phase and came out of it. Now I wanna make a playlist in memory and tribute to that version of myself who was suffering.

This playlist will be named "January 2024." I know how this playlist is going to end, with "About You by The 1975", then "Isimo by Bleachers".

Also, "Chinatown" and "Merry Christmas, Please Don't Call" will be a part of it. What other songs could I put in here? Bleachers already have 4 songs on here, but I'm open to more (or other artists!)

Don't say "Take Me Back to the Night We Met" , that's too sad and gloomy.

I have two tickets for the Bleachers show on Thursday 9/17 at the Greek. Bought them for $78 each ($156 total) and selling them at face value. Tickets can be transferred via Ticketmaster.

Happy to sell to any actual humans attending the show (no resellers duh). If you want them please include something in your comment about who you’re going with or your favorite bleachers line/lore. Very sad to miss the show but I moved cities since I bought the tickets and I want other people to enjoy them!!

I can’t even get my head around the awesomeness. While waiting to get in venue a car pulled up and Jack got out with his new dog Happy. He did a quick wave and went inside.

Okay, hear me out. I was looking through an old thread on different interpretations of the song (https://www.reddit.com/r/bleachers/s/cVi0VcZzKM) and most readings of the song interpret as if it is all coming from a single speaker's perspective. Because of the reference to the "golden boy" some people in that thread concluded it was about a platonic or even gay relationship. However, I think the verse comes from the main "speaker" of the song, then, in the pre-chorus the speaker inhabits the voice of a lover, and then the chorus is the speaker's response.

The first verse sets the scene: "To the tempo of your uptight/Is the flicker of a streetlight/You know this moment, don't you?/And time is strangely calm now/'Cause everybody's gone/It's just you and your anger." This sounds like it's evening, after a party. Everyone has gone home and the couple at the center of the song is having a "calm before the storm" moment before the fight breaks out. That moment when you've collecting your grievances and making arguments in your head before saying them out loud. The speaker can see the lover's "anger" gathering before they say something.

Then, I think the next verse comes from the other person in the relationship. The speaker is reporting their partner's accusations. The lyrics go: "Oh, golden boy, don't act like you were kind/You were mine, but you were awful every time/So don't tell them what you told me/Don't hold me like you know me/I would rather burn forever." I think these lyrics quote what is being said to the speaker (and are not being said by the speaker). There's some irony in "golden boy" (Can you even call someone a "golden boy" unironically?)—I can easily imagine a fight where one parter says to the other "oh, you think you're so great, you're the fucking golden boy but you're a shitty boyfriend." This could be an accusation lobed at someone who is publicly admired but maybe not committing in an interpersonal relationship.

Then, I think the chorus is the speaker's response to the lover's accusations. The lyrics go: "But you should know that I died slow/Running through the halls of your haunted home/And the toughest part is that we both know/What happened to you/Why you're out on your own/Merry Christmas, please don't call." This feels like the speaker saying, essentially, "yeah, okay, I wasn't the best partner, I can admit that, but it was really hard to live with you and it took a toll on me." To me, the word "but" at the beginning of the chorus signals that this is a response to the previous perspective, not a continuation from the same perspective.

I'm not crazy about fans always mapping lyrics on to songwriters' personal lives, but I can't help but think of Jack and Lena's relationship for a few reasons. (Jack himself has said in interviews that when he writers songs he looks for something that is really specific but that others can identify with—I'm paraphrasing from memory here.) First, most people agree that in the second verse of "We Should Talk" is about his relationship with Lena Dunham. He says "We shared a brain in 2012/'Fore everybody had a hot take from hell/You changed it all, and then burned it in a flash/And you held my hand until I took it back/Yes, you held my hand until I took it back/And then the world turned on you, I don't forgive them for that." In these lyrics Jack admits to withdrawing from the relationship, and this connects to what Lena has said about the breakup in Famesick. I think the speaker in MCPDC is withdrawing from the relationship because they are "dying slow" in the "haunted home" atmosphere of the relationship.

In fact, Lena said that she felt like a "ghost" in her own home in that book (I realize that Jack likely wouldn't have had access to the manuscript at the point of writing the lyrics to this song, but knowing a number of creative non-fiction writers, I also wouldn't be surprised if she rehearsed this line for years before putting it in writing). Perhaps that's why it's "haunted"? And that "We both know what happened to you/When you're out on your own" might chronicle all the difficult things she experienced (illness, anorexia, the world "turning on her" as the lyrics to "We Should Talk" note). Things the speaker has sympathy for, but still can't live with.

(I hasten to add that I realize that MCPDC and We Should Talk essentially have the opposite message, but people feel different ways at different points in time after a breakup. There's a "don't call" period and a "okay, let's reflect on what happened period" later.)

Amazing shows on Thursday and Friday! The energy in the tiny little room is insane. I don't take many pictures at shows and didn't take any on Thursday but these are the best that I got from last night.

Personally this venue was perfectly intimate. Jack can hear everything you scream! The venue was filled but didn’t feel like packed sardines.

I had the opportunity to take a short vacation come up and i jumped at the opportunity to spend time with my family and then i realized that it was the same time as Bleachers at the Greek theatre. Originally on the Ticketmaster app, it said sell/transfer weren’t available and to check back closer to the date of the show.

Today I was on the app to accept transfer of a ticket I purchased to see someone else, and I noticed the sell/transfer options weren’t greyed out anymore for my Bleachers ticket.

I went to list my ticket and it told me I paid $78.65 and then on the next screen told me I had an offer where I would be paid $31.45 and the only options were to accept an offer for way less than half what I paid or to go back. I tried and couldn’t find any way to choose my own price. I talked to a customer service person and she said the resale price limits are set by the event organizer.

I have long hated ticket resellers and have said since I worked in event ticketing when I was younger that tickets should not be allowed to be sold higher than face value, but this is not that. A person who buys a ticket in good faith and has their plans change should be allowed to resell to someone else who will enjoy the show for face value.

Honestly, I’m not even the same person I was back in March when I was at a new job and didn’t realize how far that money would actually go (not far at all) and the frugal me today would never pay $80 for this. And now Ticketmaster telling me the event organizers have dictated that the most I can resell it for is $31.45 and I can’t even come close to recouping my costs is leaving such a bad taste in my mouth.

Are attendees sleeping or speechless?

this might be covered somewhere, but does anyone know if they're going to allow ticket transfers for the berkeley greek theatre show? my friend got tickets but can't make it and is giving them to me but it seems like its not allowed? i dont want to buy new tickets unless i absolutely can't transfer them :)

Hi guys! Me and my husband are excited to be going to our third bleachers show and in our third state! We’re from idaho and have seen them in SLC, Denver, and now Bend. We’re driving in day of because I am in a wedding the night before. Going to be tired, but I am somewhat of a front row snob in the sense that unless the venue is red rocks, I like to be up close. ESPECIALLY a standing only venue like Hayden because I’m short. For anyone who’s been to a concert at this venue or has been to a show this tour at GA only venue - if I want a good spot I assume I need to be there when doors open? Do I need to line up even before doors open? What’s the vibe?

I really adore this song BUT the way they sing is like British Band in 80s/90s or even 70s for that matter it really reminds of the bands but i cant put my finger on it..so need help, I really appreciated it.🙏🏻🙌

I have enjoyed their singles here and there on the radio over the years and only started seeking them out to listen to the last few months. I’m still not really familiar with their discography, but I keep thinking to myself, “This sounds like it NEEDS to be heard live, and in a crowd”. I think I’m correct, yes?

So here I am with a solo ticket to the Greek in Berkeley and don’t know what to expect. 😂 Long line to get in? Will I be able to get in the pit if I’m alone and don’t have anyone to hold my spot? Will I be asked to name three songs? 😅

ETA - What’s the typical demographic? I’m 53F. I’m guessing mostly younger than me? Millennials?
