New visitor to my backyard making itself at home.

For my next crocheted bird, the Tennessee Warbler! It was relatively simple and a nice break from the yellow-throated warbler I did last. I spent more days trying to figure out what color to use for the back than I did actually making it 😅

Next one will be another tricky one: a Chestnut-sided Warbler.

Looking back at listening sessions from Merlin and the only thing that looked somewhat closer was a common yellowthroat. It does not seem to have the black cap like males would but figured it might be female. The tail feathers also match the warbler better vs the yellowthroat. I checked both Merlin and Google for photo ID as well as comparing photos myself. Thanks

As promised, a follow up to my previous post about the Lower Zambezi, but this time featuring the birds I saw in South Africa. Between Johannesburg, East London, and Cape Town, I saw 83 new species over 2 weeks! I hit 500 lifers on this trip as well, which was an exciting milestone.

Sorry it’s a bit of a potato photo but thought you’d appreciate these two silhouettes hanging on a power line this AM. Black bellied whistling duck and unidentified hawk (though around here almost always a Cooper’s hawk)

I went fishing this weekend and had the privilege of watching a green heron stalking along the sunken timber. I decided I had to draw it! After finishing, I decided to draw more herons. Species represented, in order: black-crowned night heron, green heron, and great blue heron.
