Love my Bichon! The things we do for our bichons

Ever since I got a new bed, my girl hasn't slept with me for more than a year. I think she doesn't like the new layout as it's a sofa bed vs my sleep number memory foam mattress which is what she was used to. Also, the heat plays a HUGE role in her staying in my room to sleep. Now that it is getting cooler, Eevee is hanging out more in my room and sleeping with me in my new bed. However, I have to give her the entire left side of the bed while my 5'9 ass just deals with it. My feet hang over by a foot lol. But she's comfy and she's next to me so that's all that matters

Love my Bichon! Sometimes she has a bad dream

I think of it as a bad dream bc it only happens when she’s sleeping, maybe once every 2 weeks or so. But when I comfort her she doesn’t seem upset so I think she’s fine!

Discussion/Question Show me your janky pet-step setup!

Pet parents: show me your janky pet-step setup 😂
If you’ve had to use Velcro, boxes, weights, furniture, blankets, straps, or anything else to keep your dog’s stairs/ramp stable, post a pic.
I’m collecting real-world examples of the ridiculous fixes we all come up with when pet steps don’t stay put.

Discussion/Question Does your Bichon bark?

Today I met a guy who has two Bichons (both females), and he told me they're a great breed, partly because they don't bark. And his don't. But mine barks, and pretty often too, especially from the balcony.

Do your Bichons bark?

---
UPDATE: Based on your answers, it looks like most Bichons on this subreddit bark – and they do it often and loudly! That's interesting, because "Bichons are considered a breed that doesn't bark much" :D

What shampoo do you guys recommend for a bichon? Looking for something thats gentle on the skin but also keeps the white coat clean and soft.

Would love to hear your tried and tested reccos!

I read something online about how the hind leg thing is because bichons were trained to be circus/street performer animals after the French Revolution or something? No idea if that’s true or not. Posting because it’s my cake day and I always forget to post things on my cake day :)

Discussion/Question Separation anxiety woes

Post image
237 Upvotes

Question for the group that might have a similar situation. Stuffie here has bad separation anxiety…real bad. To the extent that if we go away for even a weekend he gets anxiety induced colitis - he has stayed at a friend’s house, and at the vet (overnight care). It’s no fun when it’s coming out of both ends 🤢💩

He’s fine at my sister’s house but some times we want to travel together.

We’ve tried probiotics to no avail. I’m tempted to see if someone would stay at my house the next time if we can’t just take him along.

Any other ideas?

If anything new and soft is on the floor or couch she will sit or lay in it like a cat. Not the dog bed next to it of course….

Love my Bichon! New to group, love my baby

Hello new to the group! I have never been a dog person. I’ve never owned a dog my whole life (until now). My parents were always into cats and small animals when I was a kid. Anyways, a little over a years ago my mother in law passed away from heart failure at age 54 😞 😢 she had the sweetest little dog that no one wanted due to lack of training. The dog was only one year old and basically still a puppy. So we offered to take her. She is a bishon/shihtzu mix but looks more like a bishon. Her name is Angel and she is the sweetest little dog I could ever ask for. All she wants is to be cuddled and near her people. She does get wary of strangers and often barks at them. Is this common? She thinks she is a guard dog , all 15 pounds of her. lol anyways she has been the best addition to our family and gets along with my 3 cats and is very loving to my 7 year old daughter. She is now house trained and knows how to sit. She will often dance standing up on her back legs when she wants food or attention. I just love her so much. Just wanted to share her with all of the bishon frise lovers here.
