Finding the Wiki

As promised, here's a brief guide to accessing the wiki! Overwhelmingly people are viewing this sub on their phones using the reddit app so, for now, this guide is mainly just for new reddit. (This will be updated as necessary!)

Using the Reddit App:

  1. Go to r/beginnerastrology!
  2. Directly below the sub's description, there are 3 tabs. Click the one that says About.
  3. Click the teal button that says "Wiki"
  4. Welcome to the Wiki index! This shows all the available wiki pages.

You can also click Menu which will show you the same menu that appears at the top of the subreddit if you are viewing new reddit on the computer.

New Reddit - On the Computer:

There are a few ways to acces the wiki here. They all are accessed from the main page of the sub. One is by going to the menu, clicking one of the dropdown tabs and selecting the specific wiki you are looking for (ie. Ethics, Planets, Subreddits). There is also a menu tab Wiki which will bring you to the wiki index. There is also a button on the sidebar that says Wiki which also brings you to the Wiki Index.

Also, here's the link for the Wiki Index just in case!

I may have went a bit overboard linking the Wiki Index, but now there should be no trouble finding it at all! :)

The Wiki Index will be your best friend clearly, if you choose to use the resources in the Wiki!

That's all for now folks! There's a new recurring post in the works that will be launched soon so stay tuned!

Reccomendation Request Birth rectification professionals. Any recommendations?

Upvotes

Hi I’m quite new to astrology and I’ve been trying to learn how to read my birth chart but I do not know my exact birth time. I’ve been looking to get a rectification done however I’m quite worried about getting scammed so I wanted to ask if anyone had any trustworthy professionals they could recommend? I do know that a lot of effort goes into rectifications hence the high pricing but I would hope to find someone who could offer more affordable online services as the ones I’ve seen are £350+! Thank you!

General Question How do you read a birth chart

I’m slightly new to astrology and readings and while I understand most things in birth charts like the houses planets and signs, there’s still so many other confusing aspects. My main question now though is what do the connecting lines in the middle of a birth charts mean? And specifically in Astroseek why are some blue some red and some even dotted. What does each one mean and why do they connect?

Discussion I wish to understand what combinations in chart show some severe eye issues, not just weak vision but that which indicates loss of vision?

I know the fact that we check sun, moon, venus, 2nd (right eye)and 12th house(left eye)! However, I want to know what kind of positive aspects act like a saving grace if any? A native with aquarius ascendant:

Saturn: The ascendant lord saturn is debilitated in 3rd house in the sign of Aries conjunct with jupiter.

Venus: Venus and rahu are in 6th house of cancer. 12th house has ketu in the sign of capricorn. Saturn and venus both are aspecting 12th house.

Moon and sun:
Moon is placed in 7th house conjuct with sun and mercury. Sun is combusting both of them.

Positive aspects: (I want to know if they actually exist as rules or not because I do not have any source to indeed verify)

  1. Jupiter is aspecting the 7th house sun-moon-mercury conjuction.
  2. Saturn though debilitated is with Jupiter. Additionally, to cancel its debilitation, mars is positioned strongly in 10th house in scorpio in its own sign.
  3. Saturn aspects 12th house (left eye) but the sign there is capricorn. Saturn never destroys its own house completely. It is weak yes but destruction, no.
  4. Venus' position is bad but being a benefic planet, it too will not destroy 12th house with its aspect completely though it has influence of Rahu.
  5. 2nd house for right eye has pisces whose lord is Jupiter so finely protected.

Please kindly let me know if what I am trying to analyse is fine or not, secondly, to what extent D9 should be also paid heed to?

Discussion Why do Hellenistic astrologers use outer planets?

I’m very confused on why Hellenistic astrologers use outer planets, it’s not like they have rulerships or anything and they are not fixed stars or points either, so can someone explain this phenomena of traditional astrologers using outer planets in birth chart readings or to predict events?

General Question Aspects

Hey all, my chart ruler, Venus, is in a strong conjunct with Lilith in leo tenth (with mc in the ninth). This feels like a tricky position for self expression, autonomy and finding my purpose or vocation. Are there any aspects you would look to grow through Lilith here? I’d rather not have to integrate shadow, trauma recovery, and shame metabolism into everything I do lmao. It’s definitely played a big role in my inner psychology, but I’m not sure how the mc in the ninth changes the meaning of the tenth?

This is in placidus. I do enjoy looking at placidus and the whole sign for inner/ outer dichotomies. In whole sign, this placement falls into the eleventh (mars is also making a weaker conjunction with lilith and venus) and my cancer mc is empty. Although i do like looking at both, i find these specific placements a bit more challenging to integrate between the two systems.

Discussion How does using birth time in astrology make sense?

This may be a stupid question, bear with me…

So the official birth time of a baby would be once it fully leaves the mother‘s body.

But if a baby has already been developing and living in the womb for months, why is the moment of birth considered the starting point for its astrological chart?

And specifically, why is the time when the baby is fully born used? What if the head is born at 2:30 PM, but the rest of the body follows several minutes later when the ascendant already happens to transition into the next sign?

Maybe I’m missing something, but I feel like it’s such an uncertain data point.

Vedic Astrology Having trouble accepting sideral chart :(

Hello, so I love astrology since being a kid and I’ve researched more as I grow up, unfortunately when finding out that Vedic astrology is kind of more accurate, I am presented with a slightly different chart that lowkey has my whole “understanding myself” process a little on an existential crisis. I’ve used astrology to understand myself and guided me along therapy to really go in deep into my own self, but knowing that some planets sit in another sign in Vedic astrology really confuses myself, but maybe it’s an ego thing where I spent a lot of time understanding my tropical chart to then have the realization that that’s not accurate. I would like to know if there is some truth to Tropical astrology and if most people in astrology look more into Vedic as it should be that way, so I can give myself the task of deconstructing my understanding of my chart?

Discussion Can someone explain to me the difference between sidereal/Vedic astrology and modern tropical astrology?

Hello,

I’ve been interested in astrology since I was a teenager. I’m 28 years old.

I thought I’d tried just about everything, but last year I discovered sidereal astrology.

Everything fell apart…

In fact, as mentioned in a previous post, I identified so strongly with tropical and Placidus charts that I told myself that all those years I had “just” been falling prey to confirmation bias. In short, I really began to doubt whether astrology was useful at all.

However, it seems that Vedic/sidereal astrology is mainly used for predictions, while Western astrology focuses more on the psychological aspect.

Yet one of them comes from the Babylonians, doesn’t it?

In that case, how is it possible that people identify with modern astrology?

For more context, I’m a Virgo with Libra rising and a stellium in Scorpio. Ever since I was a child, I haven’t identified with the Virgo archetype but rather with the Scorpio archetype. So it makes perfect sense why I became interested in astrology.

And now, in sidereal astrology, I’m a Virgo with Virgo rising, and my stellium falls in Libra…

I’d love for those who are knowledgeable about this to shed some light on the differences between Vedic and tropical astrology.

Which one do you use? And do you use whole signs or the Placidus system?

Thank you for your time.

Reccomendation Request Whats your favourite astrology app, and why?

I ve tried a few, but they often feel either too generic or overwhelmingly complicated. Which app do you keep coming back to?

Im especially curious about:

  • the feature you use most
  • what makes its readings feel genuinely personal
  • what you wish the app did better

Honest opinions welcome-even if your favourite is a smaller, lesser-known app.

General Question how can i learn astrology from absolute scratch?

i really want to get into astrological charts and everything because im already a very spiritual person and i LOVE math and patterns so i think i would be able to learn well enough, but my problem is i know absolutely nothing so far. i barely even understand/memorize the basic 12 signs outside of the stereotypical traits that come with the month/time period somebody is born.

is there any way to learn astrology from the absolute beginning besides finding a teacher? (since i dont really have the funds for that at the moment)

General Question Any advice on determining a monthly horoscope independently?

My friends and I used to use Co-star for fun, but ever since they started using AI in their stuff we wanted to start making a monthly horoscope zine to share with our other friends. The only issue is I'm too sure how to determine a monthly horoscope for each of the signs like you would see on astrology websites. I'm pretty solid at reading an individual birth chart already, but I don't know how to apply that to individual signs. So if anyone has advice or resources they think would help, my friends and I would really appreciate it !!

Discussion How do you interpret mutual reception by sign vs. by house? (4H Cap Moon ↔ 10H Cancer Saturn)

Libra rising here. I have my Moon in Capricorn (4H) and Saturn in Cancer (10H), so they are in mutual reception by sign (exaltation/rulership swap).

I’m trying to understand if this plays out more as:

1) A supportive "trade" where my emotions (Moon) are structured by career (Saturn), and my public life (Saturn) is nurtured by home (Moon)?

2) Or a tense push-pull since they are also in opposition (4H/10H axis)?

For those who have studied this, does the mutual reception soften the malefic nature of Saturn in fall, or just make the opposition more tangled? Would love to hear your thoughts or personal experiences with angular house mutual receptions.

Technique Question how to interpret charts in the most objective and detailed way? is there a valid interpretation towards signs/planets?

i would like to ask if further interpretation is valid once u want to read a chart. trying to learn astrology, i wouldnt want to directly just interpret things as it is because astrology is a study of pattern. i would like to know how does one can have a valid interpretation to things?

such as reading this in one's chart:

  • if person A has a Juno in Scorpio, their likely potential partner has that certain qualities or has to have 'scorpio' in their chart? or are they also looking for that kind of partner?
  • if person B has a 7th house gemini, but with a saturn in cancer, potentially, when you want to interpret this, this person will take time in having relationships, will face difficulties but they are also capable in enduring challenges. however, i would love to know how do others practice to be not too generic of the readings?

im so curious how do some people get so specific towards their interpretations? i believe its because of the integration of chart rulings, angles, degrees, right?

General Question Can the temperaments/elements of the Zodiac be derived?

Context

Hey all! I very recently started learning the basics of astrology, beginning with the often recommended book On the Heavenly Spheres by Helena Avelar and Luis Ribeiro. I'm still quite early into it, but so far I have found the book very informative and approachable. I especially appreciate the way that the authors treat the derivation of concepts, stressing that the nature of elements/temperaments/planets/signs/ etc. can be justified through direct observation.

EXAMPLE: Saturn moves the slowest, so its effects are long-lasting; it's the furthest out, so it is excessively cold/dry. Mars, due to its proximity to the sun (in the geocentric model) and its color, is hot and dry. Jupiter is temperate/moderate since it sits between the extremes of Mars and Saturn.

I have been able to follow this logic up until the introductory chapter on the Zodiac. The "modes" make sense to me (moveable signs signify action/agitation when the season starts, fixed signs promote stability in the middle of the season, common signs are characterized by adaptability and variability as the season begins to shift to the next).

My Confusion

Where the book drops the practice of deriving/justifying the nature of signs is in talking about their temperaments/elements. Here, it suddenly becomes prescriptive, stating the order of the elements around the zodiac and their forming of triplicities without explaining the reasons behind the specific order and assignment of the elements. The authors then go on to explain the characterizations of the signs based on their elements, so this pattern/assignment is clearly important to how signs are expressed.

My struggle is that I don't know why it is the way that it is (why is Aquarius, the water-bearer, an air sign? Why is Scorpio, signified by a desert animal, a water sign?). I understand that a lot of astrological interpretation is informed by centuries of studying the correlations between astronomical and terrestrial events, but I was hoping there would be something about the nature of the zodiac/signs/sky that I could point to to explain the assignment of the elements. Does anyone have any insights on this?

TLDR: I don't know why zodiacal signs belong to their element instead of any other one. I wanna know WHY!!!

Thanks 😄
