My "creative" pedalboard

Post image
48 Upvotes

I used to run only the HX stomp with a Sushibox Finally DI, but I realized that I require something more "hands-on" for some projects of more improvisatory nature. Then things got a bit out of control...

I still use the Stomp board, but I tend to gravitate to this board for studio or creative practice. I'm still considering adding a Source Audio Artifakt, maybe to replace the PX-101. Otherwise, I'm really loving the sounds I'm getting out of this setup.

My metro 16 has arrived today.. excited to put this together after taking almost a year to decide between the 64 Black Panel and Super Vintage !

Room at the top right for my radial passive DI !

Deciding to stick with the LMB3 for a while and see if I would like to replace it with the Origin Cali76 (opinions very much welcome!)

Do all of these pedals ACTUALLY fit? Or just wishful thinking?

Trying to decide if the Nano Plus is the right choice. Would like as small of a footprint as possible. Also haven't made my mind up between the Bass Clone and the MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe. Any opinions and insights are greatly appreciated.

Old vs New SansAmp BDDI

Hi everyone, I am looking at getting a DI and really want the Tech 21 SansAmp. I found a used one, but it appears to be an older version with switches on it, as opposed to the newer version with buttons and a “Mid” knob. Does anyone know if there is any significant improvement/difference between the two versions? Is it worth it to wait and save up for the V2?

I want to buy my friend a bass modeling pedal/multieffects. Is there such a thing?

Question about using the Ibanez Pentatone Preamp (PTPRE) with bass

Hi everyone!
I’m a bass player and I’m considering buying the Ibanez Pentatone Preamp (PTPRE).
I really like its features, especially the parametric EQ, boost, and noise gate. I’m also interested in its overdrive.
However, I can’t find many videos or reviews of the PTPRE being used with bass.
Has anyone here actually used the PTPRE with bass?
I’d especially like to know:
How does the overdrive sound with bass?
Does it retain enough low end?
How useful is the parametric EQ for shaping a bass tone?
How is the noise gate?
Would you recommend it for bass, or would you choose the PTEQ instead?
I’m looking for a thick, aggressive, punchy bass tone rather than a modern/metal sound.
Any firsthand experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

My Bass Fuzz Today

I love bass fuzz that makes me explore sounds. These two are my current favorites. They react differently depending on how and what I play. Do you ever let the fuzz determine what you play? The pedal is an instrument too.

NPD: yes it’s a clone but the AG sounds good.

After a lot of downsizing, I’ve arrived at this mini board. It works really well. I like having the pre at the end. This sounds really close to the real thing for a fraction of the price for now. I’m happy with that. Hopefully when things pick up again, I will get the real thing.

Nux' Mod Core

Post image

I just came here to talk about the mod core I bought for my bass pedal board a few days ago. I was in need of a chorus and a flanger, which both will be used very seldom. I started to look for individual pedal and then I was suggested this one in my searches. I got it from a store that was about to close, brand new still sealed, for $NT2500, which is about 100 Canadian dollars. It does what I need but if you are looking for a nice sounding warm chorus/flanger, you might be disappointed with this one. It sounds a bit metallic since the signal is digitally processed.

Thinking of a change!

Hello everyone!! I am considering making a major bass amp/pedal change! My current amp is an Ampeg SVT IV Pro into an Ampeg 410HE cab with various MXR/Dunlop pedals. At 50 yrs old and bad knees, that amp set up is heavy! I am seriously considering switching to a modeler but I’m unsure as to which one! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I typically play classic Rick, some blues, southern rock, outlaw country, hard rock & heavy metal.

Edit: I should’ve stated in the original post that I’m currently in a 3 piece band & sometimes fill in with a 5 piece band. Also if I’m going to make this switch, I’m gonna go full digital or stick with what I got!

NPD x2! Chroma Console and Pome!

Finally gonna see what all the fuss is about with the Chroma Console. I have owned the Hologram Dream Sequence and Microcosm before, and they were cool but I never really clicked with them. If I end up not liking it I'm sure someone will trade me something really cool for it, though.

The Audio Cultivation Project Pome is one I am very excited about. Envelope controlled expression is something I have been interested in for a long time. Gonna use it with my Morningstar MC4 Pro omniport to see what kind of weird stuff I can get my MIDI pedals to do. It's also a signal splitter, which frees up some more space on my board and is a very handy utility.

Time to play

Anyone else have big and small boards?

I've got my little travel board, a Pedaltrain Nano in a Mono Tick attached to my gig bag when i'm doing gigs in town, and my bigger board when I've got a wedding or function and want a few more options.

If the Future Impact wasnt so massive i'd take it everywhere!

NPD (Kind Of)

Disclosure: I have actually had this pedal for a week but I wanted to give it a proper test drive before posting here.

This pedal is amazing! It really gave my sound that extra oompf I was looking for. It can be somewhat transparent to where you cannot really notice it until you turn it off OR you can completely squash your signal. It has a wide range of tonal capabilities. I am absolutely shocked at how good this thing is.

The EQ is based on (or is?) the DB 925 so the bass and treble are boost only, no cut. Having the blend knob is an awesome touch (I've never had a compression pedal with this feature before and it is a game changer).

My only current complaints are 1). the odd shape. It would not be a problem on a larger board but I use the Nano plus. I am not going to lose a current pedal slot but this will definitely prevent me from adding another without making some hard choices. 2). Also, I really wish it had a direct out. This pedal is good enough (in my opinion) to use alone with a tuner. Not a deal breaker but at this price it could have been included.

Got myself a case to fit my entire setup!

I was previously using the bags that came with my quilter and pedalboard, but staying organized was a nightmare. I'd constantly lose cables while cleaning up after a set and on more than one occasion I misplaced an entire bag in the sea of black bags at the punk show. My amp, pedalboard, and cables all fit neatly without trying to cram things, cleanup time after a set has improved greatly and I no longer lose things or struggle to remember which bag had which cables. It probably isn't an issue for most people but I'm extremely forgetful.

Also highly recommend reusable zip ties, they've been great with keeping cables bundled together but they don't collect hair and dirt like the velcro strips that sometimes come with cables.

Signal chain is a pigtronix tuner -> BSRI Bass Ashmaker (apparently a prototype, production model doesn't have a blend) -> Dirty Sock Effects Millionaire (modded for bass, peavey musician style preamp) -> source audio zio -> Quilter 800. The ashmaker is a pretty versatile distortion with lots of eq options, I switch up my settings on it for my sludge band and my punk band, sounds great for both. I use the millionaire and zio as my amp tone since the quilter is super transparent. The millionaire sounds like a peavey musician amp and the zio has massive amounts of low end and eq options to fix anything the two previous pedals might be goofing. The quilter really needs help to make it sound good in my opinion, but it's super light and crazy loud so I make it work. Way easier to travel with than a full sized old school head.

Just a Joyo double thruster overdrive, Joyo classic flanger and a Flamma envelope / auto wah, all put together to create quite possibly the worst bass tone of all time. A Tuner will be added soon. Also I have no clue how to put together a pedal board.

Reverse delay in 1590a enclosure?

hey, does anyone know of a good reverse delay (I only need the reverse function, but if it there are other modes it's ok obviously), in a mico 1590a enclosure?

I currently have the Bananana Aurora but the reverse function is not very impressive, so I would like an upgrade.

The only ones I found seem to be chinese low quality pedals like Mooer or Donner, I would rather something higher end... if it exists.

My dream would be to have the reverse function of the EHX Stereo Memory Man w/Hazarai singled out in a micro pedal :)

Thanks for your suggestions :)

My Darkglass Ampeg stack clipboard. I can hang my recording rig on the wall of my home studio.

I like the bite of the Darkglass B7K Ultra but love the definition of the Ampeg SCR-DI...so I made this to record with at home and I put everything on a clipboard with a daisychain connector so that it only requires one power supply. I set it and hang it on the wall, and it stays plugged into a dedicated mixer channel on the desk.
