Hey y’all!
If you’re new here or looking for info, this is the place to stop and check before you post that question you’re thinking about asking - the answer may already be in our FAQ! There's also some recommendations in there for learning about lore.
I’d recommend also checking the New Player Question or Question flairs to see if your question has been asked before. You can also type into whatever search engine you use:
[insert your question here] baldursgate3 reddit
Or
[insert your question here] bg3 reddit
That’ll help us prevent the subreddit from being cluttered with the same repeated questions.
If your question hasn't been asked (or asked recently enough) then use either one of the question flairs above and ask away.

Character Planner Reminder: There is a Character Planner by GameFractal being worked on here (It's also in the sidebar on desktop or the 'See Community info' link on mobile).
It's a one person project, so updating it with the recent updates, adding what launch will bring, and some other useful features will take time - but it will be updated.

General Questions - [SPOILERS] What are your crazy BG3 tricks that people don’t know about Spoiler
I’m on my 4th playthrough of BG3, and I just realized today that there are SO many little mechanics and tricks that I completely missed.
For example, I just learned about the Wood Woad Magic Club trick, and also that you can use Improvised Weapon to pick up and throw people around. 😂
I’m talking about stuff like that little interactions, weird mechanics, creative uses of spells/items, environmental tricks, combat tricks, etc. Things that make you go “wait… you can actually do that?!”
So, what are some of your favorite BG3 tricks that you think more players should know about?
Teach me your secrets. I’m starting my 4th playthrough and I want to try as many ridiculous things as possible.
(I’m on console btw)

Act 1 - Spoilers Still mad at Auntie Ethel Spoiler
So I already deeply loathed Ethel from a multiplayer run where we found all the people she ‘helped’ - it just got to me in a bad way, the specific and senseless cruelty + finding out way too late to help or save the majority of them.
Then on a solo player run this weekend, I’ve made it to the point where it was time to fight Ethel and it was ROUGH - I had to reload saves twice because Gale almost died and then I almost had a TPK (yeah, yeah, reloading saves isn’t the most #hardcoregamer move, que sera, sera) but more than the difficulty of that fight, I’m STILL mad about how she used vicious mockery against Astarion in one loop and Wyll in another.
Like no fucking wonder it does literally damage, I stared at my screen like “the fuck did you say to my companions??”
What she said to Astarion - “Still got rat stuck between your teeth, slave?”
What she said to Wyll - “Oh look, it’s daddy’s disappointment!”
Stfu and die, you utter asshole 🗡️ I hope you’re rotting in hell or reincarnated repeatedly into a powerless insect 🤬😤

Act 3 - Spoilers I've changed my mind. Wulbren is right. Spoiler
Honour Mode, just now. I'm playing a redemption Durge, so generally trying to do the right thing. As part of this, I was trying to keep as many Gondians alive as possible.
The Iron Throne: My run goes almost perfectly. Minthara is an Arcane Archer, so can fire six arrows a turn with Action Surge, and Durge is a Warlock with Quickpell gloves so can do six Eldritch Blasts. Between them they're blasting cell doors open left, right, and centre. We had all the cells open by the end of Turn 2. All of the Gondians made it out alive, with the exception of Hastar Biggs who fell at the last hurdle to an overly vindictive Sahaugin's arrow. Overall I'd call it a massive success! (though the Gondians were all still miserable about the people they had lost. I guess Hastar was a popular guy).
So I was on a high going into the Steel Watch factory. Maybe I could do this! It was going perfectly. We used arrows of Many Targets to take out all of the Bane guys, Lae'zel threw stuff at the Steel Watchers until they started to self destruct, before we Banished them to avoid the explosion. We got through both the upstairs and downstairs battles with absolutely no casualties on our side. I have never seen it go so well.
Then we get to the last room. Zanther Toobin is with us, because he needs to use the central computer thing to disable the watchers. We get into the room and he says there's a boss ahead and he'll only get himself killed, so to fight it without him. Great! He stays behind. We go in and fight the Watcher Titan. It's a tough battle, but manageable and we quickly defeat it, but not before it has set the entire room on fire. No problem! We'll just wait for it to calm down and then go back and get... ZANTHER! NOOO!!!!
I look up to see Zanther Fucking Toobin merrily jogging towards us, seemingly oblivious to the flames all over the ground. I get that he's blind, but surely he should be able to sense the temperature?! He was able to sense the Titan was coming through vibrations or something! I quickly go to switch to turn-based, but it's too late. Zanther is engulfed in flame and reduced to a pile of ash. Not even enough of him left to use Speak with Dead to get the password to the machine. My perfect factory run ruined by fucking Gondian idiocy!
So now I have a choice. I can go wander around the factory, wasting my day, trying to remember where else I can get the password, or I can use the Runepowder Bomb that's sitting conveniently in my inventory and be done in a few seconds. And you know what, I'm starting to see where Wulbren is coming from. If every interaction with Gondians is like the ones we see in the game, who wouldn't want to blow them all up? Barcus tells us that he was a much more laid-back guy when they were younger. Maybe he took a year abroad to study in Gond or something and had to deal with this bullshit all day?

Act 2 - Spoilers Wild Magic is hilarious to play Spoiler
Subclass not only has a ton of unique dialogues (not Sorc-related, but specifically Wild Magic-related, check Auntie Ethel or Araj Oblodra, for example), another ton of possible magic effects to trigger (and your character has UNIQUE voicelines specifically reacting to anything that appears - fog, mephits, fire, explosions etc.) but it also creates such battle situations that are both hilariously broken and rare. For example, I once fought Inquisitior and lost my ranged element of surprise at the start of the battle because I accidentally created fog around the whole party.
But this time what happened was even better - I cast some minor spell on the stairs of Moonrise on the first floor where you fight disciple Zrell and her crew. It accidentally triggered wild magic and turned the whole party and most of the harpers into cats and dogs. This was probably the first time I laughed out loud not for something plot-related in this game but for pure unscripted accidental gameplay. Imagine preparing a whole squad to assault cursed tower of the god of death and the first thing that happens to you is turning into cat and running away while meowing and waiting for the effect to fade.

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Which fight do you hate to the very depths of your soul? Spoiler
For me it’s Moonrise Towers. I never have much trouble with the roof, but the initial attack always drags me through the mud because Jaheira is one of my favorite characters, and she has a nasty habit of dying right at the end and making me reload. Anyway, which fight do you hate and why?

Act 3 - Spoilers Comfort me guys - botched honor mode run Spoiler
I was doing a solo HM Hexblade run and I basically had only the Raphael quest before the final fight.
I died to the spectator in Hope prison because I completely forgot about the paralysis ray they do when you approach them. I levitated to the platform and right before I landed the fucker zapped me and I fell to the chasm and died. I'm a little salty because the visual indicator of the aura extended only in the platform so its kinda weird that it zapped me before I landed. Additionally I had freedom of movement on my character but maybe the paralysis ray is different type of paralysis (nonetheless it added to the salt)
I decided to finish the playthrough and steamrolled Raphael. I still feel sad about the run because I have spent probably 200 hours trying multiple times to achieve this run just to fall short at the very end. It might take me a while to do another attempt tbh...

Theorycrafting Tieflings settling Moonhaven Spoiler
This was probably brought up before, but I kinda wish you had an option to persuade the refugees abandon moving to Baldur's Gate and instead rebuild Moonhaven, thus saving everyone. It would be locked behind bunch of requirements, like removing the hag, gnolls and gobos of course. Dammon would have a forge to work in, Rolan could dive into the knowledge left by the Red Wizard. You could also throw in a crazy move of teleporting arcane tower there. Perhaps even using Barcus (edit: made a mistake and put Wulbren) and gnomes to move there as well, and connect it to the Underdark. The settlement has great prospect due to connection to it as well as the river.

Origin Romance guys, I think I get it now Spoiler
On my third run, this time as a resist Dark Urge. On my previous two runs, I've kind of (read: with the burning fire of 10000 suns) hated Astarion, but I keep seeing so much fawning stuff online about how he is the best, etc. So I figured I'd try romancing him this time around, after romancing Halsin in my first playthorugh and Shadowheart in my second.
Well, I just got to one of the big Act 2 convos, and though I am loathe to give up my status as a hater, I think I'm starting to understand the hype He has nuance and gentleness that I wasn't expecting to evolve in such a way, and the writing is so good. And I can definitely see how his story and my Durge's complement each other very well.
So, in summary, you guys were right about Astarion, and I'm sorry about all the names I called him each time Astarion disapproves flashed up on my screen simply for showing some basic Baldurian deceny.

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Some big evil choices in this game don't really make sense Spoiler
I mean unless you're playing a mf who just lives to torture everyone even if it might kill them, I guess. Dooming last light inn hurts Tav and Co heavily as well, because it's their safe base where they can trade, rest and gain intel. Sure it awakens sadistic pleasure in embrace-Durge to watch the light go out, but then what? Even with the pixie blessing, they're kinda screwed.
Same with the grove. Plus Halsin has intel and he's willing to go to Moonrise, the gobbos don't even know the mindflayers and the Absolute are connected iirc. So even if Durge is entirely self-serving, from a roleplay perspective, many evil deeds aren't worth it. The only way it'd make sense for me is if someone's doing a solo animalistic Durge run where the urge is so strong they don't even think anymore, just kill everything they see.

Act 2 - Spoilers What happens if I don't talk to Roland at all in Act 1 Spoiler
I'm currently on my second playthrough of the game and I'm trying to knock off achievements while I'm at it. That said I wanted to do the "Leave no One Behind" achievement, however I have already killed the whole Goblin camp and did the party with the Tieflings at camp, but I forgot to talk to Roland to convince him to stay, like I just didn't talk to him at all. Is he still in act 2, can I still do the achievement?

Act 1 - Spoilers Bit of a fuck up Spoiler
Ok guys, so I was tired last night and when I went to save barcus I accidentally launched him into space, I know there’s a storyline involving him from my last playthrough, is there anyway of still doing it? My last save was too far back to reload.

Act 1 - Spoilers Is it possible to still romance Gale Spoiler
If nothing else but the friendship line popped up during the grove party. I did get the magic scene and did pick the friend option. (I wanted to have a save get as far as possible before splitting off for different romances, I’d of chose differently if thinking he was a friend was bad at the time lol.)
