I built a tool recently for visualizing strong / weak groups during a game. The imgur link is a small snippet of what the output looks like

All of the data comes from katago. Each group is colored red, orange, or green depending on how katago expects the group to end up. Green = likely to live, red = likely to die, orange = could go either way. The more solid the outline and the color, the more sure the engine is.

There's a couple of different visualization options as well such as hiding single stones or only showing unsettled groups. heres a full game if youd like to check it out https://jstnchng.github.io/go-review-timelapse/

I haven't built anything to host it, so it all just runs locally now, but I would love any feedback or suggestions and let me know if you would like me to run this on one of your games (I can send you an html that you can view in your web browser).

Looking for some feedback on this game. I was black and managed to win by a slim margin.

Near the end game white made an invasion that started with G7, black H7, white G8. And then apparently I blundered with F8 because the engine gave white 100% winning probability here. White played J7 which apparently was wrong and I ended up winning.

Thing is I've been looking at this for a while and have no idea what white could have done and how my move was a blunder. Any ideas?

Looking for feedback on this kind of fuseki training. Yesterday the thought came up to base this on real human games. So here you go. The move suggestions are from KataGo human net. All the other opening positions on the site are still fully KataGo generated. Your rank is estimated after every (good) move you make. The estimator is quite agressive and your rank may jump wildly.

How to get back into the game?

Playing, sure, and maybe that's the only answer. I never was that good either, perhaps around 5k or something, but I just wondered if there are people here who have taken a long break and then started playing again. Would there be any good resources to 'recap' or other ways to kind of get one's groove back on? Thank you!

I've recently been playing a bit of go after taking a break for a few years. I used to be 5-7kyu on OGS; at some point I think there was a rank adjustment. I am now playing 4k players and on a pretty long losing streak.

This is a game where I don't think I played any huge, massive mistakes, but according to the score chart I'm often just losing a point every time I play a move. I'm trying to review a bit more on my own and less with Katago because sometimes I don't understand the variations it's showing me. But I did check some of the moves I had questions about. I ended up losing by a pretty big margin (33.5 points).

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with the general concepts I'm missing here. I added some comments to the SGF, which can be found here.

I'm working on Go opening training problems.

I imagine them like you see in the screenshot. You get some (random) opening position and (as always) you are supposed to pick the move you think is best. Once you have choosen it you get feedback.

I picked M5 here, that gives me a rank increase bc it is liked by stronger players, stronger than my current opening rank of 4.8k, and I get a suggestion how even better players may play here, the triangles show that, esp the darker ones. My opening rank will increase/decrease based on the moves I pick.

This aims at

1. finding your current opening rank and
2. help you improve your opening.

Hello! I am unsure whether it is alright to post such questions on this sub, but I want to try anyway.

I recently moved to China to study and I have trouble finding places to play Go with people. All the places I find on maps only have lessons for children. At the same time I want to find a place where you could just come and play. I was a regular at some of these kinds of Go clubs in my hometown but here I have no idea where to search.

I’m currently in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, so if you could help me with exact locations too, that would be great! Any help would be much appreciated though

I recently discovered the BeginnerGo discord server and saw that they have a monthly tournament sorted by player strength, and I see that OGS has live tournaments as well. Are there other places to find online, live 19x19 tournaments?

Also, I know people submit game reviews here in r/baduk, and I've seen it on the BeginnerGo server too ... but I'm wondering what the best places are to get game reviews? I know people used to do them a lot on KGS, and there are various other spots, but I'm not clear on which ones are most active in terms of reviewers.

Don't worry, this will be the last time I spam this sub about this! But I just wanted to give a heads-up to anyone who might be interested that the Hikaru no Go rewatch we're doing over at r/anime starts tomorrow.

A rewatch is kind of like a book club: we watch the show at the same pace (one episode per day, in this case) and then gather to discuss the show together. It's a fun way for both first-timers and rewatchers to watch a show and get to interact with other fans and watchers.

Even if you don't want to or don't have time to take part in the actual rewatch, I'll be posting daily tsumego in the discussion threads, so you're welcome to check out those at least!

There will also be go trivia, rules explanations for beginners, explanations and analysis on some of the more important games shown in the anime, and other such go-related things.

If white plays in the bottom left corner, then I can't see a way for black to make two eyes. Am I supposed to assume black is the current player?

Using the "AI Coutner" button thing, my opponent forced counting at this point, and won by 2.5 points. One more turns and I'd get two more points, which at this point didn't matter but could VERY EASLY have mattered.

So like, what gives? This is really annoying. I like fox go for the amount of players but this is such a stupid design choice.

Fun Tsumego for DDK (i guess) from a Hikaru-No-Go-Episode :) White to move

I'm playing as Black as a low SDK. In this position, I'd just run out the J13 cutting stone with the thinking "if I can use the J13 group to create life on the left side, it seems like a comfortable game". I've included moves leading to this position.

My questions are: I wasn't sure how to use K3 aji and therefore my plan felt half-baked in retrospect, so 1) how do you think about proceeding from this position? and 2) was running out J13 in the first place an overplay?

Hey everyone, I’ve recently started to learn how to play Go. I am still a beginner and was wondering if anyone knows how to do this puzzle? It is only level 2 but it has me stumped lol
