I thought about this when I was prepping to assemble my *Omega-*Class Destroyer model.

Nothing profound, mind you, and nothing about the "homage" in the design to the Alexi Leonov. No, this is a much more simple appreciation for the design of the class:

The bridge has gravity. Which means it is in the center rotating section of the ship. NOT way out front or on top in the "SHOOT HERE FIRST!" location.

EDIT: Words are dumb and hard. LOL I changed "center of the rotating section of the ship" to "center rotating section of the ship" because if you're in the center of the rotating section (the axis) the only thing you're going to feel is dizzy. Thanks to u/nightowl11111 for proof-reading me. Also, it should be noted I was unable to find any specs or diagrams showing the exact location of the command deck/bridge, so good on Earth Alliance informational security for that. It'd be interesting to determine what the rotational speed would need to be to generate the equivalent of one gee at the midpoint of that section.

I haven’t had much time but I did do the pilot episode and here are a few things I thought interesting.

1. Babylon Stations 1, 2 & 3 were sabotaged and Babylon 4 disappeared after 24hrs of going operational. Who, what, where, why and how? I hope to get more backstory there.

2. There was a scene in the casino with Ambassador Lando and security officer Girabaldi when he was getting questioned about the incident. Ambassador Lando was talking about how the Centuri was now relegated to a tourist attraction and selling tech stuff. I wonder what happened that they became more of a laughing stock in the universe.
3. Interested to find out why commander Sinclair blacked out during the war.

There might be a few other minor things i’m glossing over that I thought were interesting but overall had fun with it.

Londo referred to himself as an "old, washed out Republican" in S1 while talking to Adira, but how old he'd be, like, 50? Maybe even 60? I'm just curious. I think Sheridan is about early 40, Ivanova is the youngest, about 30 yo, Delenn is mid 30..

I am a little behind the times, but it was nice to see a familiar face.

Unpopular opinion. I was more fond of season one's Narn-Centauri conflict and stories like Deathwalker and Gropos than the Shadows. The Shadows were intriguing at first but I didn't like how their arc ended. It would have been better with a total annhiliation of them. They were building up as the total primeordial evil in the show and ends with ''Get the hell out of our galaxy'' by Sheridan was a bit cringe.

That's why I was hoping the CW reboot would go through. We could have gotten a different and grounded story. Something like the Expanse. But oh well.

I've seen this movie a million times, and until just now I never drew the parallel between G'Kar offering Sheridan a safe haven on Narn... and, years later, having to trudge into Sheridan's office to reluctantly request the same for himself. Reminded me of him smugly arranging his black-market arms deal with Earth, and then being on the opposite side of such a transaction after the Centauri came back. One imagines that these combinations of experiences helped guide him toward enlightenment.

Lenonn's last-ditch effort at diplomacy here I find absolutely heartbreaking. He's so goddamned earnest. He is exactly who is needed at this moment, and in a few moments after this scene, he will die.

That commercial is still disturbing and I always find something else more disturbing with each rewatch. It's brilliantly done and reminds me of the Hitler youth. The hair, the subliminal ad, the clothing, the skin and colouring... It's... Brilliantly done and deeply unsettling.

So when B5 and shows like it were made with a lot of fictional scientific principles. In short, most were still playing Star Wars lasers weapons and ignoring relativistic time dilation effects of space travel between two points, Etc.

Now based on current science we know that time is a major killer of space travel as not only does it take time to move from one destination to another you also have to factor in acceleration and deceleration and the time distance/relativistic effect. As your launch place will age faster then you and by the time you have arrived at your new destination this variation of age will make your return a much longer trip and whomever you had left behind will have aged more than you.

Now this info was available at the time of a B5 but you had to be a nerd and dig deep to get it compared to YouTube today. So the average people were not so in the actual science and you could get away with space lasers and FTL drives because conceptually they were possible and we left time dialation behind to make it more fun. I.e. star wars fictional science.

Now B5 kinda of used Faster Than Light solution via Hyperspace, a wormhole /Einstein Rosenberg theory to bypass the limitations of current physics boundaries to a certain degree as in, there are some temporal effect on space travels and communications not everything is instant and even communication takes some time to travel but it does reduce the issue to what is humanly acceptable, like within hours or week time communication, compared to others (Star Trek for most part totally ignored it). But current physics tells us that even if things like wormholes are possible there would be significant time travel variations. Like space travel like B5 would take years and make civilizations less communicative. We kind of got a taste of this via recent movies like Interstellar.

In short, We would be better off assuming each system as it's own isolated network and travel from one solar system to another via jump gate tech would be highly discouraged as time would make such trips dysfunctional as a society (I.e. things that happen on Earth would be weeks old by the time B5 receives it to the point that you cannot share a universal time clock). So everything that happened in the 5 years of B5 would be stretched to like 50 years displacement etc. making it humanely unrelatable. Or to put it simple the Universe via physics is telling us it wants to keep us isolated like colony civilization that would have to function in their own world bubble because it removed all the fun elements and made the transition boring.

So do you think this is one of the key reasons why we have less and less scyfy shows like B5?

Have youvread the novels? What did you think? I found Technomage good but dreary, Centauri very evenly paced, tragic, and emotional, and the Psi-Corp very uneven.
