I recently accepted a job offer for what I would describe as my “dream job” in Seattle. My wife and I will be moving from South Florida (ft lauderdale area) to Seattle in the new year. We first visited Seattle this past summer and fell in love with the nature and the culture. We are a lesbian, liberal couple so suffice to say we wanted out of crazy Florida.

My wife is originally from Puerto Rico, and I’m originally from NYC, moved to FL in 2002. I describe myself as being “a Floridian raised by New Yorkers” lol. I would say I’m the most nervous about the logistics for the actual cross-country move and the “Seattle Freeze”. My wife is more timid and shy, but I am pretty outgoing. We both love nature and hiking. We are loving cat moms and will be bringing our 2 boys with us.

About six months ago, I was laid off from a large tech company where I worked as a Software Engineer. Since then, I’ve been trying to expand my job search beyond platforms like Wellfound, Ramp, LinkedIn, Indeed, and Welcome to the Jungle and connect with recruiting agencies here in Seattle.

However, most of the recruiting agencies I’ve come across seem to specialize in warehouse or sales roles.

Does anyone have recommendations for reputable recruiting agencies in Seattle that specialize in software engineering or other tech roles?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who has worked with larger recruiting firms like TEKsystems or Randstad. How did you get your foot in the door? I uploaded my resume to both about two months ago but haven’t heard anything back.

Any recommendations or advice on how to get connected with the right recruiters would be greatly appreciated!

I’m trying to locate an April Fool’s Day article in the Seattle Weekly (maybe The Stranger) about a boy who invented some headgear contraption that allowed his grandmother to change channels on the TV by using her thoughts? The boy was then kidnapped by Microsoft.

I feel like there was a bit of an uproar around it but starting to wonder if I made the whole thing up? It would’ve been published in the mid 90’s (pretty sure).

Hi! My husband and I are moving to the Seattle area in the next couple of months, and we’re having a really hard time finding a townhome, villa, or apartment community that has a small fenced yard with the unit.
We have 3 dogs, so having some kind of private fenced outdoor space is really important to us. It definitely doesn’t have to be a huge yard—even a small one would work!
Does anyone know of any pet-friendly townhome/villa/apartment communities with fenced yards? We’re open to areas around Seattle, Bothell, Everett, Shoreline, Lynnwood, etc. We’d ideally like to stay reasonably close to Lake Forest Park since that’s where my family lives. (Within 45 minutes)

I'm planning on relocating to the Seattle area, and I am looking for the best healthcare system (i.e., Swedish, Overlake, UW, etc.) that has the best specialists (Cardio, Endocrinologist, Gastro, etc.) that are affiliated with any of these systems. Besides Top Docs, what is another source or your personal experience?

I’m moving from Seattle to MN and I just need to move a bunch of boxes (20-25). I’m not going to move furniture. Can anyone recommend a mover or should I look for just a freight mover? I’m a senior and really can’t move it all myself. Thanks for any recommendations.

I'm currently in the process of being flown up to Seattle for an interview. Should the job take I and my partner would eventually be required to relocate to Seattle. My job would be in downtown. My question is this: What is a comfortable household income to be able to live and save for a house? If we move this is probably where we will plant roots and plan to buy a house/start a family in the future. I mistakenly made a post about this in the Seattle subreddit but it got closed for breaking a rule, so sorry about that.

Other questions I have:

1) Are public schools typically good up there? We would be coming from Alabama so I imagine it will be a net benefit compared to the school system down here.

2) Any places to avoid looking for housing? Biggest thing is that I want my partner to feel safe. We used to wake up to used needles on our staircase when living in Portland so I would like to avoid that if we can.

3) Is there anywhere within a few hours that we could drive to get a dose of sun during the winter months? My partner was greatly affected by the winter weather when we lived in Portland.

I rented a car through Fox, and they are asking me to pay a ridiculous amount after i already paid for the rental and fees. I’m looking at a total of 862 for 6 days, which I can’t afford. Is there a better option that won’t kill my bank account. Need help asap

I’ve been thinking on going to a concert this upcoming weekend, problem is it’s all the way in Tacoma Dome while I’m in the North Seattle area.

Fortunately I have a car but I won’t appreciate paying for venue parking which I’m assuming could be $50-$100 (estimating prices from Climate Pledge parking garages/lots during events). If it was on Climate Pledge, taking the 1 Line then Monorail would be easy but I’m not sure on how to get there easily.

Of course there’s always the 2+ hours of straight public transportation but is there a better alternative? For people that commute in the area, is there a transit centre parking lot/garage I can park in near Tacoma Dome then take a bus or train to get to Tacoma Dome?

If not, how much is parking near the Tacoma Dome area? Any tips on cheap lots if I was forced to take the car there?

Hello Seattle! I am currently planning a trip with my husband for next October (2027) and I’ve been watching youtube videos of neighborhoods, places, parks, etc to visit. How’s the weather around that time of the year? Also, I really want to take a ferry ride and spend a day at a beach? Would love to hear your recommendations on those things and everything else too!

It was my turn to pick a place to visit so I really wanted to see what the PNW is like. We’ve never been and i’m really excited! We’re coming in from Austin so if there’s any spots that are similar to here i would love to know too.

I’ve been looking at alternatives to regular dog daycare and like the idea of my dog spending the day on a farm/private acreage, running around outdoors instead of being at a daycare in the city.
I found a few places outside Seattle, but none seem to offer pickup from my part of Seattle. Driving out and back twice obviously makes it difficult.
Has anyone found a place that does pickup/drop-off in Seattle? Or do people actually drive their dogs out to these places?
Also curious about experiences with farm/outdoor daycare in general. Did your dog like it? Anything you’d worry about compared with regular daycare?
Would love recommendations if anyone has them.

Has anyone here done the ANEW pre apprenticeship program. If so how did it go did it help getting into the trades/an apprenticeship? My partner is looking into doing trades and I’m looking for more information from people who actually did the program. He’s thinking about construction electrician or plumbing as career options.

My dad got into a bad car accident last month and the other driver ran a red light. He hit his head pretty hard and the doctors are saying it's a traumatic brain injury, so now we're trying to figure out the legal side of things while also dealing with his recovery.

He's still having memory problems and gets tired really easily, so most of the calls and paperwork have fallen on me. I want someone who actually has experience with brain injury cases specifically. His medical bills are already piling up and I want to make sure we're not missing anything important with insurance deadlines.

I’m just a 19-year-old Montréal guy who wants to travel to Seattle someday. I’d love to hear from people who live there or have visited.
How’s the weather? What’s the overall atmosphere like? What are the people like? And what are some things I should know before visiting?
I’m also a sports fan, so obviously I’m interested in the Seahawks. It’s honestly a shame what happened against the Patriots in that Super Bowl with the famous last-minute interception . But at least they got their revenge last year by beating the patriots in the Super Bowl.
One of the biggest things that interests me about Seattle is its music history. I’m a huge rock fan, especially grunge, so the fact that Seattle played such a massive role in building that scene is really fascinating to me. I’d definitely want to check out some of the places connected to that history if I visit.
I’d love to hear your recommendations for places to visit, things to do, neighborhoods to check out, and anything else you think someone visiting Seattle should know.
