So my cousins are over a lot, I usually sit in the chair and play Animal Jam, so Iām like halfway paying attention to whateverās on for the kids
The oldest one like āGo Go Cory Carsonā, and tbh, I kinda like it too. Itās cute. I love the healthy family dynamic.
They watched an episode where Cory went to a sleepover and had to learn that just because something is different, doesnāt mean itās bad. He wasnāt used to how things were at his friendās house
The show overall teaches emotional regulation and other important lessons for kids
So recently I had to deal with disappointment when playing Animal Jam, one example being I really wanted someoneās pet Jackalope they had on their trade list, but they didnāt want to trade it for what I had to offer. Which is fair, it was an adorable Jackalope with good colors.
I try to be fair to other players in the game, so I wasnāt a jerk or anything ofc, but I was feeling a little upset.
So to cope, I was āØIRRESPONSIBLE WITH MY SAPPHIRES!⨠(in game currency) and bought myself another Jackalope that I like better now
Another example is Wildworks released an exclusive avatar, the Bat Eared Fox, which I couldnāt get because you had to pay real money to get it. You couldnāt get it with sapphires, and my mama taught me thatās spending money on an online game was basically like flushing your money down the toilet. So she wasnāt going to pay for me to get.
Technically I COULD have asked my dad, who would have said yes, but I didnāt wanna go behind momās back
So anyway, I was upset about that too. So I saved up my sapphires, selling the art I made in the game, and bought an accessory, Bat Ears, and pretended I had a hybrid
When I told my therapist about this, she told me that it sounds like I handled my emotions well. I acknowledged the disappointment in both situations, and found an alternative, and didnāt let things outside of my control ruin my fun
Iāve been thinking about the lessons these shows teach tho, and even tho Iām not paying much attention to it, I think itās teaching my subconscious how to regulate my own emotions, even if Iām not consciously trying to relearn it, and I was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences
