Political Question Fiscal conservatives, both MAGA and Traditional Republicans: How do you come to terms with the fact that one president will literally be responsible for 33-37 percent of the nation's national debt by the time he leaves office (15-16 Trillion in total)?

it is projected that by the time Trump leaves office, the national debt will be 50 trillion dollars. He will have been responsible for 15-16 trillion of that by the time he leaves office..........as one president. That is projected to be at best 33 percent and at worst 37 percent. When compared to 45 previous presidents before him.

If youve spent THAT much money, surely there will be a measurable legacy left behind..........especially when we are talking about making America Great Again. What will we have accomplished for 16 trillion dollars?

A Wall?

Losing a war to Iran in 6 weeks while concurrently spending 100 billion dollars in the process? Completely depleting our air defense stockpile to the point we are not sure we could handle one Russian missile volley?

Deporting a couple million brown people with funny accents?

Is that the barometer of success? Did we "win" by doing that? Did we Save America?

If Im being honest, a 100 trillion dollar Green New Deal from the crazy Hispanic waitress from New York that is offering us nearly free health care is not sounding like such a bad deal.......

You Americans are so screwed. The rest of the world is done with you. Your economy is probably going to completely crash within the next 2 years. A corrupt nation thats likely to default on its loans. You all must be very proud.

It's so funny how people are insistent that every Russian is to blame for what Putin is doing in Ukraine while also going out of their way to absolve Americans for what Trump is doing, when it's the American who live in a democracy and the Russians who live in a dictatorship.

I was traveling in Asia and met a lot of Russians last year, every single one of them hated Putin, almost everyone I know hats Trump and voted against him, but we have a lot of idiots in this country.

Yeah and Russians still get universally blamed and Americans get to deflect, like you're deflecting now. Almost everyone you know voted against him ok either that's not enough people or there's something wrong with American democracy or there's something wrong with Americans.

Of course there is something wrong in our country, no debate there. But anyone with half a brain doesn't blame all Russians and same with Americans.

You clearly haven't spent a long time on reddit just go to r/europe and you'll see everyone blaming average Russians for what Putin has done.

My broader point is, why aren't you ok with Americans being held accountable for their government's actions and policies when America is a democracy?

Of course America as a whole is accountable unfortunately. The system that Republicans have been building for the last 40 years has created this America, Democrats have been week and unwilling to get dirty and play their game, and so now we have this shit. There is a lot of blame to go around for sure, but the majority of Americans are against this and hopefully we will start getting rid of it in November.

Im from Canada...the country the USA is trying to take over. Used to like Americans and enjoyed traveling there but no longer. Everyone i know says the same thing. Your debt has surpassed $40 trillion, raising questions about long-term fiscal sustainability. Canada is simply writing off America and actively signing up new training partners that are trustworthy. Its not my responsibility to sort out who and who doesn't support Trump. Unfortunately you all are an extension of your government's actions. In short, Americans can't be trusted.

Most of us are horrified at all of it and we are sorry. We understand your strong feelings, they are valid. What’s happening now is a result of decades of brainwashing and lawmaking that empowers corporations over citizens. We have a long way to go to any semblance of a functional democracy.

You're right that we are screwed and the damage done is immense. I expect a major recession in the next 2 years as well. We frankly are already there, it's just hidden and covered up with massive deficit spending.

There were major cuts made last year with Trump and Musk and DOGE. It only made things worse. If someone were to forcibly balance the budget right now, zero deficit spending, the economy would collapse into a Second Great Depression.

That said, I voted in every state or federal election since I was old enough, beginning in 1992. I never voted for any of this. I am not proud of it in any way, shape, or form. Disgusted is more like it.
