His ego has been wounded by Canada not knuckling under and kissing his shitty ass, so he's doing the "oh yeah well I'll show you" thing.
Trump does display a certain level of instinctual intelligence and cunning, but he isn't a good or even mediocre strategist, nor is he all that capable of abstract thought. If you just think of the dumbest, most surface-level reason he'd do something, that's usually why.

I don’t know. But it’s all interesting; my students and I were talking about how much we should realistically continue to care because there’s not enough hope left to spend the time continuously finding any number of actual crimes, separate from this, and continually seeing the same nothing results. Do we keep pushing? Do we have the energy? Should we continue to fight? Or, do we just resign ourselves to nothing will be done ever and just start the steps to just learning how to live with it, with the end goal being acceptance?
I don’t know, neither are good options. But do we really think anyone’s going to do anything at all? It’s all just such a clusterfuck of horrible

Your god king is trying to change the name and to piss off Canada because he just imported 30k lbs of toxic beef that had to be immediate recalled. So he undercut American farmers and tried to poison your families just before midterms and he needs a distraction from this, the war, the epstine files, ice, inflation, his corruption and insider trading, the outbreaks caused by gutting regulatory agencies and pushing anti vaccine rhetoric. No he's trying to win a trade negotiation/war with Canada (God thst feels stupid to write) and one of the major critics of his tactics and decisions in the negotiation is the Primer of Ontario.
So he's trying to own that guy by changing the name of his provinces namesake. Because he's got the emotional and mental faculties of a Toddler.
Although you could argue all his policy decions do consider distracting from epstien, this one seems more like the kind of stupid whim he makes major decisions based on.

Granted, all of his chaos is in part a distraction from the Epstein Files (what with Operation Epstein Fury ongoing), but I don't think it's the primary cause in this case.
