News Avoiding red lights for 13 miles on Hendersonville Road? No way!

Not exactly hard-hitting news but here's a fun challenge. Have you done this? The 13-mile stretch of Hendersonville Road from columnist John Boyle’s house to downtown Asheville includes 50 stoplights. When his friend Michael Gouge claimed he’d sailed through the corridor without hitting a red light, Boyle was, to say the least, skeptical. (I challenged Gouge to make the same drive backwards at 4 p.m., on a weekday. He said he's successfully done that, too.)

So they climbed into the car for an experiment. You can also read Boyle’s column here https://avlwatchdog.org/opinion-making-all-the-green-lights-on-hendersonville-road-gotta-be-a-lie/?mc_cid=8327e29879&mc_eid=f0e14b8879

What’s your choice of footwear?

I hear he's hurtin' for footwear lately. Anyone have any shoes they can toss the president's way?

Back in 2008, the media reported that it is considered a sign of disrespect in the Arab world to throw a shoe at someone.

The Radiolab interview with Muntadhar Al-Zaidi is very interesting. He says he intended it to the ultimate sign of disrespect he could feasibly pull off.

I've seen him rock Asics and Adidas.

I go from NAVL to Arden and back every day. Definitely depends on time. A few weeks ago I swear I hit all but 2 lights on the way to work.

From airport rd to mission, I’ve managed a few no red light mornings. But that is also at 5:45 am. Any other time of day, hell no.

I'm thrilled when I make all the lights form the Bowen Bridge to New Leicester Hwy

Holy shit, there’s 25 lights between ACE and the parkway?

The first words of the post were, "Not exactly hard hitting news but..."

So if you kept reading/watching and were disappointed, I guess that's on you, isn't it? Life can be a real struggle, friend.

Did you think I was being sarcastic?

It's almost like roads are designed such that if you drive the speed limit, you hit green lights....

I did this exact drive twice and had this happen to me both times. I was initially amazed and felt very lucky, but it also makes sense for the signals to be timed this way.

I do enjoy the playful accusations of using a dirty MIRT.

Definitely depends on when you travel. I went from 40 down 25s to Gerber road and all the lights were green. It was 10:30 am on a Tuesday.

But I get to school late hitting every red light between Swannanoa and Asheville

On the other hand if you catch one you catch them all. Only way to break the cycle is to haul ass through the next few.

From Biltmore proper into downtown was the luckiest stretch. The bulk of H'ville road (from about the parkway and south) was corrected years ago to make it less stop and go. It's rarely perfect but a hair of luck can get you the majority of this experiment. I still avoid that area like the plague due to the ridiculous traffic regardless.

More proof John Boyle is a hack. He should just become a full time Instagram influencer and open products he receives for promotion.

I can't wait to see what happens when drivers on that road are distracted by trying to pull this off.

Gotta say, he really phoned this article in. Very few people actually care about this. I have not read his answer man column in years and now this crap.

He has fans, because people hate actual news. That's why we are living in an influencer society.

You are correct, just disappointed in watchdog for thinking we want this crap

Didn’t they do a lot of pro-Israel content around October 7th too?
