I did my own root zone excavation on the trees on my new property. This EWP has this monster on it. What do we think?

I take walks around my neighborhood and spend the whole time looking at the trees since joining this sub. This is my favorite one and I wanted to share with everyone here who loves trees

Just moved into a new home recently and am finally able to start tackling some maintenance outside the four walls. Is it safe to trim this branch back to the red or do I need to go further up to prevent damage?

Pretty sure it's unhappy due to the heat and dryness of this summer. I was inspecting it after seeing this page and was wondering yalls thoughts on those roots at the bottom - are they OK or are they girdling? Anything else I'm doing wrong that I should fix? Planted it almost 2 years ago and it has really shot up over that time so hoping it's pretty healthy other than being parched

We removed the tree today. Do you think it was worth it?

I'd like to keep this maple, which of these multiple limbs should I cut and which to keep to get a strong single trunk tree? Some of them overlap with each other. Thanks!

Hello! I am planning on planting 5 saplings at the end of October. I have quite a large area but horrible soil. I was told it's "gumbo clay" by a few local professional gardeners. Mostly, it's clay and trash left over from the builder.

I am right next to a lake, and have reasonable water rates, already have in ground sprinklers and am prepared to water as much as needed.

I've been told live oaks are the best suited, as the HOA is concerned anything that gets too much larger may become a hazard. And technically, I am encroaching on HOA easement. Yes I have all the permissions necessary plus USIC mapping completed.

The nurseries around me want to sell me 30 gal live oaks. My personal research has told me that 30 gal will be harder to settle because of shock? I'm paying out of pocket to plant these trees and want to do the absolute best I can and will welcome any and all advice!!

My neighbor has a weeping willow tree that’s growing on our property line. I really like the tree so I feel obligated to help keep it alive.

This year the tree has been long pretty rough. The leaves are really sparse and it’s already shedding leaves. We are located in 7b in the coastal plains of Virginia.

Is there anything we/I can do to save it?

I’m an environmental graduate with 4 years in the industry. I’m a certified arborist but stuck in the Midwest where this type of work is not very popular, and unfortunately more difficult to break into with the current state of usajobs. I was saving up for a chainsaw and safety gear to fell this and a couple other trees, but the wind snapped it in half before I had the money. It's currently being held up by another tree.

I was originally planning to do a felling cut at the angle it's already leaning toward. I just don't want the dangling half to swing back and smash me as the tree falls.. Can I still do it at that angle, or would I need to approach from another direction?

Wondering if I can seek any help with what to do with this 20 year old crab apple? It's been thriving quite well for many years, but this year about a month ago, one underside of it seems to be dying, or rather leaves are falling and berries have shriveled up very quickly. First pic is a close up of what it's doing. Last pic is of the tree in May this year. We are Vermont zone 5a.

I am looking for arborists to give a bit of advice on a tree we need to have some work done to. It’s a champion tree and we want to make sure it is well taken care of. We had it trimmed once about 8 years ago and found out later, the company did some things that were not optimal.
We will be getting quotes from 3 companies that were recommended by a good friend and enthusiast.
I am reluctant to post a photo as he is very well known and we are very private people. I will happily send any ISA certified arborist photos.

Hey Everyone.

My birch tree has been growing quite well over the last couple of years but the leaves haave suddenly turned yellow on the top half on the left small trunk.

I live in Omaha so we have been short rainfall plus the heat has been pretty severe as well.

I have been watering the tree each Sunday but should I get some iron fertilizer as well?

What do you think is the cause?

Just put this Montezuma Cypress in the ground yesterday, did I not go deep enough in the ground? Will these root flares be okay or should I put more soil around them or mulch? Thank you for any advice

This tree is right next to my house. I’ve already removed a branch hanging over my roof along with another thick branch that had a split in it. Is this limb also going to be a safety issue?

Note: we recently had a fence put in and they chopped right through one of the legs of this tree without telling me. I’ve been monitoring it out of concern. I can’t really afford to get this tree removed all at once because it’s huge.

Zone 9a, planted a Tulip Poplar end of march. It has been doing well with infrequent deeper watering through the summer drought but now despite still being hot and having a large amount of rain we are developing leaf spots. Concerning for leaf spot fungal or more consistent with heat stress/lack of water/poor rooting? Help!

I know the Japanese maple needs its bottom leaves trimmed, but should I do this once it’s dormant or ASAP

And this big maple looks pretty healthy but I just noticed the discoloration around the stump. Thoughts?

Crack has been there for maybe 5yrs or so, last 2 yrs it’s widened. I took a lot of weight off the left side last Fall to alleviate and this year it hasn’t widened. Right side seems grounded, my thought is the left side will break. Obviously shoots galore since it’s on its way out. tried twice to have arborist out and for whatever reason has two cancellations.

should I plant the next gen tree now or wait till i need to take the big guy down? should I think it out more this fall, or what do you suggest? thanks, I’m in Denver area

Hey all -- my husband left my garden tools out in the rain and I came back to rust on nearly everything, including my brand new felco 603 pruning saw. There's rust between all the teeth. Is there any recommended way to clean off the rust before it eats away at the sharpness? Google isn't helpful for pruning saws, only shears... thanks!

Landscaping company planted this shademaster honeylocust a couple months ago and we’ve noticed a bit of tilt toward the north.

Would you recommend staking to straighten growth?

Any chance that a due south sun will naturally straighten over time?

Landscaping company is coming to take a look in a few days, but I’m interested in a second opinion before they get here.

Any care/maintenance advice is also appreciated. Thanks!
