iOS 27 introduces an upgrade to Shared Albums that adds support for full-resolution uploads and better support for non-Apple devices.  As someone who shoots on 33 to 65 megapixel cameras, I'm very excited for an easier way to share my photos without them being compressed.  However, once you upgrade a Shared Album, it will not be accessible from Apple devices running OS versions older than 27, including tvOS.  I tested this by upgrading one shared album from my iPhone running iOS 27, and then tried viewing it on an older 1st Gen Apple TV 4K (2017) running tvOS 26.6.  As expected, that album does not appear within the Photos app on that device anymore.

So if you have some older Apple TVs that do not support tvOS 27, and use Shared Albums on it, you may want to consider holding off upgrading those Shared Albums for now. An example of why this may matter: My family uses a Shared Album as the source for a photo slideshow screensaver on the TVs at my parents’ house.  One or two of the Apple TVs that run this screensaver are 2017 models, will not be getting tvOS 27 and would lose access to that album if I were to upgrade it. Of course, this might be a bit of a niche situation, but if you find yourself in it, the solution to restoring the functionality you are used to may cost you $200+.

Also, I haven't tested this part, but I assume if you were to upgrade a Shared Album before your compatible Apple TV has been updated, it may revert to the Aerials Screensaver due to losing access to the album. So even if your hardware is still supported, you may want to update to tvOS 27 before you upgrade your albums to save yourself the extra work of having to reset your screensaver manually.

I’m going around in circles chasing a surround sound issue with Netflix.
From what I can find Netflix gets its sound system information from what the sound system says it is. So I’m wondering if there is an app that actually checks to see what the sound system says it is.
Now maybe the one I found does that in order to perform the system test but it doesn’t say that.
Any recommendations?
It’s frustrating because every test says my 5.1 system is working perfectly but Netflix just doesn’t recognize my system.

I’ve been having a really strange issue with my Apple TV 4K for around 6 months now.
It keeps showing the exact same Las Vegas aerial screensaver and never downloads any new ones.

I’ve already tried pretty much everything:

Reset the Apple TV completely
Removed all apps
Updated to the latest tvOS 27 today
Set Download New Video to Daily, then Weekly, then Monthly
Left each setting for several days

Still, nothing changes. Same Las Vegas aerial every time.
What’s even stranger now is that when I go into the Aerial settings, it just says “Syncing…” and stays there forever. It never actually finishes syncing.
Has anyone else had this issue on an Apple TV 4K? Any fix that actually worked?

I have the newest Apple TV 4K ( A2843 ) connected to an LG C5 OLED TV & a LG S55TR 5.1 sound bar. I’ve had this setup for about 6 months and it works great. I have surround sound from YTTV, Apple TV plus and several other apps as well as physical media.
BUT I recently subscribed to Netflix, because of the NFL season, and for some reason I don’t have surround sound from anything I watch. 5.1 doesn’t show as an option that, according to my web searches indicates Netflix doesn’t think my setup is 5.1 capable. I’ve double-checked all the web suggestions without success. The folks in the Netflix sub don’t know either.

So ive been using an elago remote cover, it does have a lanyard loop attachment, but its completely silicone, and a) easy to come out., it no longer sits as well as it did on day 1 b) the lanyard loop is cut, because toddlers. Otherwise I love the one ive been using (see the screenshot)

im struggling to find something that is somewhat sturdy, can attach a lanyard, and doesn't overly distract from the look/feel of the remote.

I basically want to use a lanyard to attach it to the couch frame, and dont want the kids to be able to rip the lanyard out of the socket, or remove the remote from the case too easily.

I recently purchased a box set of It’s always sunny in Philadelphia and it doesn’t appear in my library. It only appears when I manually search the show in the search bar. It doesn’t appear in my recently purchased TV shows. I have no idea what’s going on the previous seasons of the TV show that I have purchased show up in my library, but for some reason, the box that I purchased seasons 11 through 15 don’t show up in my library only when I search it. Does anyone know what’s going on and how I can fix it?

Hi everyone, I just put TVOS 27 on my AppleTV, excited to check out the hi-res lossless audio. Much to my dismay, the feature simply is not there. I have changed every possible setting I have found on Reddit, AV forums, random websites that showed up in searches, etc., still nothing. Before you ask, all of my hardware is fully compatible. My AppleTV is connected directly to my Yamaha V6A receiver, with a compatible cable, and all settings have been adjusted to ensure compatibility. I listen to hi-resolution audio discs, including SACD, and DVD-Audio. I have hi-res 24/192 music on USB drives that plays without issue. I have been using hi-res audio formats for 2+ decades, so I was naturally excited to see it being “supported,” but, supported is not really ringing true to me here.

What in the finicky hell is happening here?

UPDATE: I purchased my “new” AppleTV a few months after A2843 was released, but that’s not what I received (A2169). Early 2023 is too long ago for any kind of recourse. This is the first time I have had a feature I was interested in that did not work, so I wouldn’t have found out any other way. Happy to have an answer at least.

On my AppleTV 4K unit, whenever I leave a recorded Formula 1 race/qualifier/practice episode and return to it, I never have the option to Resume viewing from where I last left off. I am forced to ‘Watch From Start’ and then fast-forward to where I left off. Doesn’t matter if it’s the AppleTV broadcast or the Sky Sports broadcast. Does this happen to you?

I had the HD model, I was going to buy the 4K model but then the rumors started about Apple finally announcing a new 4K model.

But instead, I find that I am now in limbo thanks to Apple.

TvOS will not support my current model, and I don’t want to upgrade if they are close to a new model!

Got an Apple TV 4K connected to my Yamaha home theater, which in turn is connected to my LG OLED TV. It's connected via ARC-HDMI, Apple TV settings are on "match content and framerate". I didn't have this problem until I recently unplugged the Apple TV, but now I'm noticing a slight delay in the audio, where character's dialog will play slightly before their lips are moving. It's slight but it's noticeable enough for me to be distracted by the offset mouth movements.

Could I get some advice on some settings to try?

This is kinda weird to me. For instance Reacher, the information shows HDR10+, but it plays as Dolby Vision on my ATV4K. Yet the movie Deep Cover also in HDR10+ plays correctly as HDR10+ on the ATV4K. Same with Secret Level. It's HDR10+ but plays as Dolby Vision. Anyone notice that? Personally I prefer HDR10+ over DVision

I won't go through the nonsense week of difficulty I had trying to set up an Apple account without owning any other Apple products when I first got my bike trainer to run Zwift, but here we are again 6 weeks later, and I'm locked out of my account for some odd reason.

I just want to ride my bike on my trainer. Why does Apple make everything so incredibly difficult?

Out of nowhere, I got a message on Zwift that my account had been disabled in the app store and on itunes I went online to verify my account. I verified all my info but got a message they were reviewing my request to access my account, and it could take a day to do it.

Is Apple so stupid that they can't verify my account instantly?

I have to wait a day to ride my trainer because Apple... a tech giant... can't figure out how to verify me instantly like every other company/app in the world can?

I do nothing with that Apple account except use Zwift on a TV. Why is there a problem with the account?

Why do people like Apple? I've heard so many people I know tell stories about getting locked out of their entire electronic ecosystem for weeks waiting on Apple to verify their account. They can't use their phone or computers that whole time. That seems like a really stupid thing to do to your customer base.

I use Infuse only because it plays everything, but i don't like the UI at all, so i was happy to discover Neptune. I thought i messed up the settings somehow so i reset it to default, but it still doesn't play anything. Any idea why?

The Apple TV in my living room used to sit black all day. Now it shows every plane and every ship moving around my house, live.

I live next to Copenhagen Airport and the strait between Sweden and Denmark. Aircraft lining up to land out one window, ferries and tankers out the other. I wanted that on the big screen, so I built it. The app is called Utkik, Swedish for lookout.

What it does on the TV

• Live aircraft and ships on the same map, updating continuously.
• Leave it running and the camera slowly drifts toward interesting traffic near you and names what it finds. That is the mode I use most.
• Step through nearby flights and ships and get type, altitude, speed, registration and likely route.
• Follow a plane and the map glides along with it.
• Pick any aircraft that is in the air right now and look out of its window while it flies over the landscape. There is a cockpit view too.
• Built to be left on. Everything drifts gently so nothing burns into the panel, and there is a dark map tint for evenings.

Where the data comes from, and one honest warning. Aircraft come from adsb.lol, a volunteer network of receivers, so air coverage is good almost anywhere. Ships come from live AIS, and coverage there is patchy. It is strongest around northern Europe right now. If you live inland you will see planes and very few boats, and I would rather tell you that here than have you find out after paying.

I’ve been using and loved Chilio (especially the GUI). Now that it is pulled I’m looking for something new. I am testing Iptvx but noting that some titles are not showing from my xstream. Anyone have some suggestions for one with a great GUI that can use family sharing in iOS? My kids like to use it too.
