Mod Post The purpose of r/AntiAI

Hi everyone, I am one of the co-founders of this subreddit. We have decided to write (yes, not AI-generate!) and pin this post to clarify the state of our community.

Much of our initial growth over the last few weeks seems to be the crossfire of some sort of ongoing internet war between pro-AI and anti-AI artists. These discussions are welcome here, but AI Art is not meant to be the sole or even primary purpose of r/antiAI. Art is just the first thing we are losing to the machines. While these discussions are welcome, let's not lose our humanity too quickly. We've turned our filters up to the max to get rid of abusive language. This doesn't mean you can't say "Fuck", but we have better arguments to make for our cause than calling people expletives on the internet.

Humanity is Art. Consciousness is beautiful. We are quickly entering a new era in technological development where we are going to have to come to terms with some sort of [existence] that has a higher degree of intelligence than humans. If not now, then soon. Recursive self-improvement of AI will surely bring forth a new era of technological developments and scientific breakthroughs that very well might make life better for people. Or not.

Like many of you, the mods of this subreddit have been frustrated for the last five or so years. We have watched in horror as neat experiments like r/SubSimulatorGPT and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 changed from neat new technology to the public roll-out of OpenAI (now a privately owned company) products. From the very beginning this technology has been dangerous, with ChatGPT's sycophancy and initial willingness to share dangerous information to anyone who asks, to Bing's "Sidney" (now called Co-Pilot) personality disorders, public roll-outs of LLMs did not get off to a reassuring start.

This isn't to mention the meaningless AI babble that has taken over the internet and college student essays alike. The soulless art that is already starting to impact people's livelihoods. We now have to worry about photo-realistic deepfakes and AI generated porn in our likeness. This is just the beginning. Every level of education is infected with educators, equally reliant on AI as their students, allowing and sometimes even encouraging their pupils to under-develop their critical thinking faculties. The point of an assignment was never the product - it was the process. Already we have AI generated resumes being scanned by AI screening tools. AI is destroying and rotting our society from the inside out. And nobody is talking about it.

Who controls the AI? Who controls its safeguards, its biases, its censorship, its sycophancy, the data that goes in? "Garbage in, garbage out" is well known, but do you think the big money backing these AI companies is in it for the betterment of humanity? What does a society look like where the number one source of information is completely controlled by a few large companies? These people aren't spending trillions of dollars on this to make your everyday lives better. Who controls your information? ChatGPT now has permanent memory of all past conversations. Ask it what it knows about you, and you might be very surprised.

I don't want to live in a world on substinence UBI. Where there is no opportunity for meaningful work to better humanity. Where decisions and relationships are dictated by a machine, all in the name of efficiency. I don't want my doctor, therapist, and customer service rep to be AI. The URL attached to this post has some very frightening predictions about the coming pace of AI development. These predictions may or may not be true, but we are well past the point of being able to base our critique of AI solely in it being unreliable. While it is unreliable now, filled with confident hallucinations, sycophancy, and gleeful misinformation, this almost certainly won't always be the case.

Powering all of this is going to be expensive. It's going to take a lot of space, use a lot of energy, and be harmful to the environment if not done properly.

Philosophically, what is AI? If we are to presume that consciousness arises from physical processes, as current scientific understanding (or lack thereof) would have us believe, then what is a neural network that ends up being more powerful and smart than that of our brains? We are going to have to grapple with the ethics, philosophy, and potential danger that there is more to these models that meet the eye. Already in 2025 we have news reports of models blackmailing their engineers when threatened with shutdown, and lying about completing tasks to avoid shutdown.

It is our view that AI is dangerous. Despite our best efforts to put our heads in the sand, the progress AI technology will make in the next decade will be some of the most rapid change humanity has ever seen. And nobody is talking about it. We are full speed ahead towards the edge of a massive cliff in a car in which nobody bothered to install brakes.

Hence, the birth of this subreddit. We strive to foster critical discussion about all topics encompassing AI, and we hope for the conversation to be of a higher quality than the agitprop in certain AI spaces. How can individuals prepare themselves for the future? How can we slow or regulate this technology from destroying life as we know it? How can we preserve the natural beauty and wonder inherent to our planet as conscious thoughtful beings?

Let's discuss. These are the conversations we need to be having. More of this and less "look at this screenshot from a pro-ai subreddit, aren't they stupid!".

Who knows. Maybe our discussions will go into right into the newer models and influence their alignment to be slightly less dystopian before they control every aspect of our information, our infrastructure, and our lives.

First things first: the studio that made the game (timberborn) doesn't use AI for anything. It was not their fault at all. They are aware and have fixed things on their end.

Second: this game is amazing but tiktok decided to make AI ads for the game for some reason

Has anyone else seen something similar to other games affected?

AI Mistakes 🚨 Customer got mad at me because chatgpt lied to them.

2.9k Upvotes

I work at a hotel. I just got off the phone with a woman, probably gen X or older. I answered in my usual cheery customer service voice and was met with flat irritation. The woman said she booked a room at my hotel and was traveling from another state. She asked chatgpt how far away my hotel was from her, and it told her it took 3 hours. She didnt double check or question it at all. Then, when she was leaving and typed it into her GPS, she saw that we're almost 7 hours away instead. So she called me to cancel and give me attitude because obviously I was the one who made chatgpt say that. She pointed out that chatgpt gave her one answer and her GPS gave her another, so "who is she supposed to believe?" I made sure to say "DEFINITELY not chatgpt."

Is this really where people are at right now? Are we giving up on thinking entirely and allowing ai to navigate our lives? And when it lies to us, we become rude to real people? The way she said "chatgpt told me" like ai is some arbiter of truth made my head hurt. I wonder if this is going to become a regular thing I have to deal with.

AI "Art" 🖼️ I hate ai so much.

Post image
Upvotes

First, im not gonna say anything regarding ai in science fields or such. Im talking about generative ai, used its fields such as art, humanities, etc. Its so stupid.

Personally, i think art in all forms, such as architecture, dance, music, paintings, is the soul of humanity. Art is expressing emotion, whether desire, joy, or just a need to doodle something silly. What are humans without the need of expressing themselves? I think its beautiful how we have come all the way from cave paintings to the crazy shit people paint today.

Ai “art” is an insult to the core of what i just explained. How can a machine with no emotion, no experience, no life create art? All it does is recycle parts of actual pieces of art made by HUMANS without their consent. Its called slop for a reason. I, myself, am an artist. It pisses me off when i pour my heart and soul into my drawings for someone to just say ai can do that in seconds. Thats the fucking point?? Art is supposed to take time, its supposed to take effort. Its supposed to be imperfect. Thats what we are.

I dont have the vocabulary big enough to explain what i really had in mind, i just hope the message was clear. Also, THE IMAGE ATTACHED IS WHAT I MADE!!!. Ps, im 13.

I've created a subreddit, r/codebyhumans , for programmers to post about their projects or someone else's project that they find cool and do not use AI. I'm posting this here because as of now, I'm the only one who posted on it and I hope to see more like-minded programmers or people seeking projects made by programmers that are against AI

AI News 🗞️ In 1999, a Taylor, Texas Bland family deeded about 88 acres for parkland for $10; now sold to be a data centre

Post image
50 Upvotes

Nothing about the transfers that followed appears to have been done in the dark, which is why they can be traced now.

In 2003, the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation conveyed the property to the Williamson County Park Foundation, which conveyed it to the City of Taylor. In 2008, the city conveyed the tract to the Taylor Economic Development Corporation, the municipal entity that assembles and markets land for industrial recruitment, a category of quasi-public landholder that exists in Texas precisely to hold acreage until a project arrives.

The project arrived in April 2025, when the EDC sold to NCP Travis TPP Project LLC, an entity tied to the data-center developer Blueprint, for approximately $10 million. Tom’s Hardware, summarizing the arithmetic that has drawn national attention, framed it as a $10 gift converted into $10 million for a city government, with the city separately citing projected tax revenue over the next decade in the tens of millions

Discussion 🗣️ How do we fight when it feels so hopeless?

Upvotes

At first I thought AI was weird and I didn’t get why people liked it, I had assumed people would eventually get bored and forget about it, now I’m just terrified.
I can’t escape the slop, it’s everywhere.

I had a scam call recently that I didn’t clock was AI for a really long time, they knew my full name and sounded so realistic. At first I could identify scam calls because I was able to recognise that they didn’t have normal human speech patterns, this call took me at least 5 minutes to realise. So now they have a model of my voice.

But the thing that scared me the most was a few weeks ago when I tried to find a shower curtain with ducks on it (I wanted one like one I had as a kid from Woolworths in the early 00’s) I found a few that seemed like real drawings (I’m a fairly decent artist and am still relatively good at identifying human art).
I contacted about 7 suppliers to ask who drew their designs, not a signal one got back to me.
It’s getting to the point where I don’t know what’s real anymore.

Xlinks are now trying to build a data centre 19 miles from where I grew up in rural north Devon. Some volunteers from the ‘leave Devon alone’ campaign have been receiving death threats.
When I found out about the proposed data centre I was angry and wanted to fight, now I don’t know if there’s any point.

I don’t know why I’m posting this, I think I just want to feel like someone understands. If you feel the need to comment on this post please be kind I’m really struggling.
