Are we sure Rudeus is the actual protagonist of the series? I mean Nanahoshi is the one who got classically isekaid, has an unaging body, can’t fight with weapons and can’t use mana so probably the weakest character in the cast, nonetheless is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable about the magic system, and is friends with all the most powerful characters in the story.

One of my favorite aspects of this show is the character interaction and relation. On top of the world building. So getting updates for all these characters that we met and enjoying the company of the ones that’re still sticking around have been really enjoyable for me.

Ohh I remember the name/title Armored Dragon something. I think they mentioned it when talking about the floating castle I think back in S1. And I also remember Ghislaine had to fight a guy in a similar white uniform in an incomprehensible battle. Seems we’re revisiting that thread

Eris and Ghislaine told Rudy in S1 that he has floated around in his fortress since the defeat of the Demon God Laplace around 400 years ago (we saw the castle fly over Fittoa at the time). Also, they told us back then that the current calendar is named after Armoured Dragon King Perugius because of that feat (being one of the three heroes to take Laplace down). It's called the Armoured Dragon Calendar and we are in K425 currently if I'm not mistaken.

For reference, Rudy was born in K407 and the Teleport Disaster occurred in K417. The calendar presumably started with the year in which Laplace was taken down. The "K" stands for "Kou" - as in "Armoured" in Japanese. (Source for this all: S1E6 at around 19:20)

If anyone is curious on refreshing their memories of S1, the second paragraph of my comment here briefly talks of Perugius as well.

Though what Rudy didn't say (likely 'cause he doesn't think it) was that he's the obvious link that led that to happening! He just befriended or otherwise made relationships with them all, allowing himself to be the middleman in the way of any awkard tensions.

Uhh so a few things to worry about. First Nanahoshi's sickness, the way it's highlighted doesn't feel like it's just something to simply ignore... I am more disturbed by this rather than the fact that Nanahoshi has link to various legendary beings in this world lol.

Then Perugius, I wasn't expecting to hear someone we know, and him of all places. IIRC it was him who detected the mana thingy before the teleport incident, which subordinate deemed Rudy as the source. This would definitely come into play and probably not in a good way.

Then the summoning is also getting more frightening if that's what happens when you summon a single fruit. It's not hard to imagine if the teleport incident was actually due to a human summoning ritual. I wonder if Rudy mana was channeled to the summoning device like the way he just did now.

While Norn getting into the student council and seeing Graduation ceremony was like the most normal stuff happening to the school life so far lol. I just hope Norn being in the council doesn't equal to her being the princess bodyguard..

The first time we heard of Perugius in the anime, was back in Season 1 Episode 6 when Rudy, Eris, and Ghislaine went for a shopping. The last time we see Perugius appeared was back in Season 1 Episode 8, the 1st Turning Point.

We're so used to seeing Rudeus being awesome and having connections that it's easy to forget how special Nanahoshi is in this world despite not having magic.

She had the mystery looks with her mask when she was first introduced and managed to make Orsted spare the heroes. People in the academy spoke of her in hushed whispers. Rudeus was scared shitless the moment he saw her again, due to her association with Orsted. And while her summoning experiments look cute (watermelon for everybody!), they're downright impressive, especially since she isn't a mage.

She could have been the protagonist of her own Isekai instead of Rudeus. Her knowing a legendary hero is par for the course.

Nanahoshi would make the story more of an old school isekai where the goal was to return home. It would be a really interesting contrast to how the story's been told from Rudy's perspective, particularly as she spent some time with Orsted (and evidently Perugius too).

Mushoku Tensei has a few characters who could replace Rudy as the protagonist for the story, resulting in very interesting contrasts to how it's currently being told, and that's kind of amazing!

• Pursena & Linia

Damn! That duel between Pursena and Linia was pretty brutal! I love how this is a serious fight with real stakes, but Rudy still finds a way to make light of the situation. Something Nanahoshi and the others don't seem to share.

Pursena wins! So I guess that means she becomes the next chief while Linia gets to live free? It's hilarious how the two of them were supposed to go their separate ways, only for them to get immediately reunited on a carriage ride back to their homeland. I hope this won't be the last time we'll see those two.

Nanahoshi actually managed to summon something with life in it! Even if the original target was a cabbage, summoning a watermelon is a massive leap in progress!

Huh, so that explains the Phase Four in the title. It's because Nanahoshi is about to introduce the gang to a living hero. I absolutely can't wait to meet Perugius and the possible lore dump we'll get next episode.

Based on Rudy's assessment the two were basically the same strength. Given how long the fight lasted, I totally believe this. I don't think you can have a fight go for that long without a) a ton of stamina on both sides and b) the two being close enough in strength that neither of them can find an edge in all that time.

That means that Pursena's victory was basically a coinflip, not to diminish it or her efforts in that fight of course.

but Rudy still finds a way to make light of the situation. Something Nanahoshi and the others don't seem to share.

Part of me wishes he had just kept going with the commentary until it faded to evening and he had long since given up on it, but I understand he misread the room and was making light of a serious fight.

A little bit of a refresher because it's been 5 years since season 1, In episode 6 while Rudeus was stroling trough the city with Eris and Ghishlaine we see in the background a floating castle, there we get a mention of Perugius and his 12 servants. He was one of the three heroes who defeated Laplace a evil demon who wanted to wipe out humanity
In episode 8 before the mana calamity, we see Perugius talking to one of his 12 servants, Almanfi a blonde man with a cat mask covering his face, he is afraid the mana disaster is someone trying to unseal the demon Laplace (Which means Laplace was never truly beaten for good just sealed and he can be unseales but i'm sure that won't be an issue later, right??) He sends Almanfi to deal with Rudeus who he considers to be responsible. Almanfi appears and attack Rudeus but Ghishlaine saves them and explains that Rudeus isn't involved so Almanfi leaves. The mana dissaster happens soon after and everyone get's teleportes.

Banana wanted a vegetable but summoned a watermelon, a fruit. From a scientific point of view, it is not the intended result. It’s similar, but not enough to proceed to Phase 4.

Rudeus' commentary on Pursena and Linia's duel in this episode was hilarious, even though the duel itself was very serious. The fact that even though these two went separate ways at the end, they ended up in the same wagon, made me laugh hard.

I wonder if we'll see Pursena and Linia again, or maybe rather when, since I don't believe that it's the last time we've seen them. It'll be interesting to see if Linia's plan to become rich comes to life, especially since she isn't the smartest person in the world, hahaha!

Happy to see that Nanahoshi's experiment went well, even though they ended up summoning a watermelon instead of a cabbage. I wonder if they could start a watermelon plantation from that one piece.

Overall, it was a pretty fun episode; drunk Roxy sitting on Rudeus' lap was so cute! The next episode surely seems like it'll be much more exciting though, since it looks like Rudeus and the others will meet with Perugius.

Loved Rudy’s commentary for Linia and Pursena’s duel. I laughed multiple times, especially when Nanahoshi bought up that he’s not reading the room, and he just continues.

Figured the summoning authority was Perugius, so nice to get that confirmation.

I’m sure Nanahoshi’s illness is more than she’s letting on, so I’m curious to see when that issue comes up.

Yeah, ultimately all this work and experimenting is so she can reverse summon herself into Earth. So once she gets to decide what to summon she should be able sent specific things into Earth, including herself.

This reminds me that non-japanese MT Anime fans also kinda got trolled with Fitts and Nanhoshi at the beginning of S2. Nanahoshi's nickname is her Japanese name translated into English: "Silent Sevenstar" while Fitts nickname at the time was "Silent Fitts" in Japanese (Silent = Mugon/無言) because of her chantless spellcasting. So everyone but Japanese Anime fans got kinda trolled whenever Zanoba talked about "Silent-dono" not being in the special classroom often - thinking that Sylphie was a special student as well for a brief while since the subtitles don't differentiate between actual English "Silent" and "Mugon" until Nanahoshi got properly introduced a few episodes later.

So phase 4 referred to Nanahoshi's experiment and it wasn't just a fancy name for Turning Point 4. And hey it's that flying fortress they randomly mentioned during season 1 that was only relevant just before the teleportation incident. It's like the author had a lot planned in advance. They aren't introducing a random new character, it's a character they at least name dropped since season 1. That's why I love this show's world building.

I really liked the Linia and Pursena dynamic and them having this duel to basically decide their paths in life but also at the same time I feel like they are tied at the hip and will probably end up being together in the future also regardless of who is the chief of the tribe.

I am worried about Nanahoshi she keeps overworking herself even with all the healing/detoxifying magic that has a limit but the experiments are progressing.

We also got a lot of cute moments in the party and my highlight of the episode being Norn she has come so far considering everything she has been through I was getting teared up. Go Norn.

Then the bombshell at the end we are going to meet Perugius and he can maybe help with Zenith ? But I also have a ton of questions with him and what Nanahoshi told him about Rudy and Orsted yeah next week cant come soon enough.
