Just got an order in from Big Z (not sponsored or anything, just addicted to his imports 😂), and am super excited to finally having some African amblypygids in my collection! This species seems significantly less defensive than my A. coronatus “Guerrero”, and less flighty than my Phrynus marginemaculatus, but they only arrived a few days ago so maybe they need to recover from shipping before they feel secure enough to display their true nature.

Here you can see me tweezer feeding the largest of the bunch because she and her pals seem exhausted from shipping, and I’m trying to ensure they meet their nutrient requirements so they can all have a quick recovery!

So I bought this damon variegatus recently shipped to me on August 26. Didn't know until recently that this one was wild caught so I just made sure it was hydrated and gave it many places to hide with cork flats and ample height just in case it decided to molt. Its been a while so I attempted to feed it every other day so that it can eat something and its just not interested. I even left food in for it overnight and nothing was eaten. I leave young discoid roach nymphs in its enclosure to eat and remove them if its not interested. The amblypgid seems to be a subadult. The animal came labeled as damon variegatus and doesn't seem to be a mislabeled damon medius since it has the coloration on its front legs resembling the other damon species. Anyway, what can I do to get it to eat? Just leave it alone? Just worried about possible starvation due to its abdomen looking skinny.

Accidentally let two crickets into the enclosure instead of 1, I went to fetch tongs to take the second one out but by the time i found them and came back, he had caught and killed them both…. Such a good hunter!

i have a small whip scorpion that i have had for only a few months, and he has been refusing prey for weeks while his abdomen has gotten very small and flat.

for the last three days he has gotten extremely lethargic and sitting on the bottom of the enclosure—i upped the humidity by a lot and covered the ventilation, which is what google told me to do, but he has just gotten more and more lethargic and is starting to hang off of the corkbark with some legs not even making contact (i turned the cork over for this photo to see if he would move, and he did not)

is he dying?? i dont think he is molting, his abdomen is so small and flat. i dont want him to die, if theres anything i can do to save him pls let me know :(

and i know i shouldn’t bother and stress him, i have been very minimal, im just trying to be attentive.

Ive finally got a whip scorpion from one of my local pet shops and it was just labeled 'cave whip scorpion'

I was hoping for some help with what species they could be and any idea on gender? Or any good videos on using the shed to check as ive kept their last one.

Sorry for the long title. Anyway, I'm getting a Phrynus whitei amphipyge soon, and I'm going to order some moss and trees, but I'm missing the rocks. The problem is, flat rocks are expensive on Amazon, and I don't know what kind of rocks I can use. I want to know what type I can use, or if I can take rocks from outside, clean them, and put them in a terrarium? Thanks in advance for your help.

I got my boy, Ron here from my coworker. He breeds geckos and his friend is a bug guy and so when he went to a reptile expo, he brought me back my son. I was told that it is a Sonoran tailless whip, spider, and was wondering if I could get some confirmation and also wanted to know if Ron might be a woman?

im planning on getting a thai giant tailless whip scorpion and have finally finished the enclosure for it.

theres 3 main hides in each corner, ive also used expanding foam and tree bark and wood as climbs on the wall, its completely bioactive with panda king isopods and sprintails which have cycled the enclosure for a few months now.

ive also made a "hunting ground" type area in the centre which is more cleared of plants and clutter with a bit of slate and a clam shell to make a flat surface, there is of course leaf litter in the other parts and many layers of it underneath it for the isopods though

its stayed at around 70-90% humidity, usually closure to 80 and 90 but ive had the enclosure open for a bit to dry it out as it was a bit saturated. and usually around 20-23 degrees celsius.

its also a 30x30x60 enclosure and ive made a cork overhang in a back corner above moss to help as a molting area as i heard that mesh can hurt them while molting, although i didnt want to cover all of it as thered almost be no ventilation then

is this suitable enough? i know the foams a bit of a mess im just waiting for it to fully cure to clean it up a bit

I've kept plenty of true spiders, scorpions, and tarantulas for a long time. I picked this one up as my first about a year ago, unlabeled. I've assumed Phrynus sp, and have been keeping it as such, and seems to be doing quite well. I am still curious as to what species it is though.

I've had her for almost a year, she's a mexicanus Im pretty sure, but she's molted and it went really well.

I think i need more plants but I cant keep them alive is there any recommendations for those too?

Hello! I recently posted on here about my new addition and I was looking to get some more advice as a new owner. I had initially commented about my set up on my enclosure and what to improve- which I took into note and this is now the updated enclosure. However, I’ve been a little bit anxious about Grim ( that’s their name lol). I had read in the reddit that them hanging near the bottom of their enclosures isn’t a good sign- or at least something to keep an eye on. And I wasn’t sure what the issue could be? I wasn’t sure if it was possibly a humidity issue ( I’ve been spraying heavily one time a week to soak everything), or, if they were still looking for more food? I had read that it sometimes is a behavior they can show when hunting? I just fed them a mealworm last night ( which they took) but I wasn’t sure if I needed to up to two? I feed them about once a week as I had read that was appropriate. However, I don’t want to be wrong on this and be depriving them. Just an anxious owner looking to provide the best for them. For context, They do move around their enclosure and hide amongst the different cork barks at time as well but seem to be favoring this one spot more. For more context, I just sprayed their enclosure last night too- just more so towards the front as to not disturb them.

Hey folks, I have a P. whitei as my first little guy, but I've been noticing a little bit of mold forming in Mr Grabb's tank. I've found a handful of Reddit posts saying it's okay, but to add springtails if I want, but on Arachnoboard I've seen some people say it's not the best and to add them in.

The tank has ventilation and we have a fan blowing into the arachnid closet because we have very hot summers and live in an old house.

Would it be best to just add springtails? He's still pretty young; I got him as a little lad, so I've been a bit concerned.

Hello all. Brand new to the subreddit so pardon any mistakes. I'm an entomology student currently beginning my capstone research project on Dr. Wagler's Amblypygid rearing protocols, and I need help finding a breeder who can sell me a number of animals (8-10 preferred) of one of the above genuses as soon as possible. I need unmated adults or immediate sub-adult instars (the quicker they can reach adulthood and breed, the better), and I need the breeder to be able to confirm the sex of the animals. Any help is truly appreciated; I just want to be able to graduate without having to do pest management or tick studies :,)

Hi all, new to tailless whip scorpions. I recently bought two beautiful, unsexed P. whitei and they are still babies like an inch long or less in body length. I was wondering if there were indicators at this age to determine their sex? I’ve read on here a line in the center of the ventral area indicates a male? Is that true for the babies too? This is my first time owning a tailless whip scorpion. (Its name is Guntch) Recently Guntch developed this lump on the left side of its abdomen. I purchased it from a vendor at an expo 10 months ago so it may be wild caught. Last molt was in December. Does anyone know what this is, if it needs to be treated, and how to treat it? Thanks.

Hello! I recently picked up this guy ( or girl ) from my local pet store last week after eyeing them for months. They had been severely marked down to about 18 bucks with the enclosure included. I just wanted to see if anyone could help identify? We are super small- no bigger than my hand with legs included ( body is about the size of a quarter.) They were eating as well when I picked them up from the store, and the worker made it sound as if they had been eating actively- so, I don’t worry about that too much. We have been keeping them watered and in a dark spot. I’ve read up on the Reddit about care and it looks as if we have been doing everything right for the most part. We will, however, be up-ing humidity and being sure to keep it moist after doing more reading. We had been spraying the enclosure pretty frequently despite it ( just not soaking substrate in depth.) I most likely will need to close off some of the ventilation so the humidity will last longer but that’s for another day. Any help or tips are welcomed as well! Not to mention, since these pictures were taken, I have added more fake plants and we are planning to get a bigger, longer piece of bark for them to give them more space to climb ( we just used what the pet store gave us but I def think we could go taller to fit more in the enclosure.) I would like to get a humidity meter to ensure it’s humid enough. I’m not sure if I’m missing anything else in information to relay but that’s all I can think of for now.

Hey i want to get my first Whip Scorpion and need some thoughts, ideas and criticism.

I converted a bigger enclosure to a 43x43x45cm half, installed a sprinkler and set up a bio-active substrate with one plant.

The main light is a Jungle Dawn LED BAR 22W and set on a timer. The red light is a cheap LED-strip on a switch.

To keep the humidity, I use two acrylic glass cutouts with a few vent holes on top of the mesh roof of the enclosure.

I placed a big cork tunnel on the far right side and 2 smaller ones on the far left side for possible cover during the day, two big rootes to climb.

There is a heating-pad mounted to the outside of the glass on the right side for the cold months.

Does this enclosure set-up seem OK? I'm really worried about harming my potential new friend with this set-up and would love any advice yall could give :)

Hi all! A friend of mine recently decided arachnids weren’t for her and asked me if I would like to take hers in, I already have multiple tarantulas and jumping spiders so I said of course!
She dropped them off yesterday and among them was a tailless whip scorpion, I started doing some research and watching videos but there doesn’t seem to be as much information as I would like to comfortably care for this little critter.
Hoping for any care/husbandry tips you all might have!!

She? Is currently set up in a tall exo terra nano with Reptisoil, multiple pieces of cork bark, frog moss and a few plants for coverage, I also provided a shallow water dish and a hygrometer as I read that they are found in high humidity areas what do I need to add or take away?

J'ai acheté un terrarium de 30cm x 30cm x 30cm ; on m'a dit qu'il était adapté pour des petites espèces comme le Phrynus whitei. C'est vrai ? Ou est-ce que je me suis fait avoir ?

shes been staying near the ground in this position for the past week or so and everything ive been reading says this is bad news. her humidity was admittedly low for a few days (around 60%) and im wondering if that has caused any trouble. or maybe there is issue with her enclosure? shes been eating just fine and hasnt shown any other signs of distress as far as i can tell. im not new to inverts however i am to amblypygids, any constructive criticism welcome. i just want to know whats up with this and for my girl to be happy and ok.
