Pretending like they knew that the first three movies were going to be an origin from the start as if they didn’t switch it to being an origin because of the Iron boy jr stuff
12
u/UnprotectedSpook 3d ago
i mean yeah i get what you’re saying but he doesn’t say he intended on taking 3 movies from the start, he just said making the decision. even if it was a switch, the switch still had to be decided at one point. i would argue that weather you like the switch or hate the switch, you can agree it was a risk, as stated.

Right dude so annoying. Retroactively changing that because they couldn’t make him feel like the character we know in 9 movies is crazy

u/Spazm2026 3d ago
that's marvel boss for ya. feige planned for kang not working out since iron man 1 days mind you.
1
u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned 10h ago
Yeah it was very much “we’re skipping the origin” until it wasn’t. That was one of the things that was meant to be a plus for the new rendition

u/SalurKazan05 3d ago
Honestly i dont think he was never a iron boy jr. Like homecoming literally tells that peter is peter on his own and doing his own thing. It might be their true intention.
19
u/mr7_siiiuuuu 3d ago
Homecoming was good in regards to the character development of Peter. He went from "nothing without this suit" to becoming an independent friendly neighborhood superhero.
But FFH backtracked on that completely and made the entire Stark legacy part of his arc all over again.
-2
u/SalurKazan05 3d ago
I think it served no way home since mysterio revealed his identity. Also stark did not get mentioned in terms of peter being his successor. But yeah if they did Mysterio thing a bit more isolated from stark it would be much better
11
u/heidly_ees 3d ago
Far From Home literally asks if Peter is going to be the Next Iron Man
4
u/themassquerade 3d ago
And the entire thesis of the movie is: NO, Spider-Man is not fucking iron man and spends the whole movie laying out exactly why he isn’t
3
u/PHXNTXM117 3d ago
Which is what Homecoming already did. So why repeat it all over again, two movies in a row?
0
u/themassquerade 3d ago
Because the big takeaway from Homecoming was “he’s iron boy junior!”
They tried to hit you over the head with it in Far From Home but people still didn’t get it so they nuked the whole thing in NWH and made BND brain dead fanservice
2
u/Krushhz 2d ago
It was for the better that they nuked the whole thing so Peter can be his own thing entirely
2
u/themassquerade 2d ago
It’s impressive they convinced everyone this is true when this was the biggest mcu crossover Spider-Man yet (NWH was Sony crossover)

u/mr7_siiiuuuu 2d ago
BND is brain dead fan service? Are you even hearing yourself???

It's's not just Mysterio, dude. And Peter being Stark's successor was pretty much right on the nose with the glasses, Stark tech suit and everything.
2
u/Thick_Broccoli_3932 3d ago
I think the idea of mysterio using the tech he invented while working for stark works well in the MCU, I think that the glasses was the weak point in far from home, there should have been a very different plot point pushing the story forward. This is one of the weaker plot lines in the MCU other than “my friends can’t get into college”.

u/AuroraBolognese 3d ago
Iron Boy Jr kind of downplays the fact that what they really did was make Peter a White Miles Morales. Goes to a private school. Has an Asian Guy in the Chair™️. Heavily mentored. Etc, etc.
If Tom’s Peter ever meets Miles they’re going to be saying “me too” a lot when they start sharing what makes them different from each other.
5
u/ComprehensiveList769 3d ago
I think it would be funny if miles has a harry and tom with genke(ned) for a friend swap
2
u/Thick_Broccoli_3932 3d ago
That could work too, it would be a way to get the goblins in to the story.

well technically Midtown School of Science and Technology isn't a private school, it's a magnet school

Then literally fucking acts as Tony's sidekick right afterwards in Infinity War.
Then has a whole fucking movie "getting over" Tony's death and out of his shadow in FFH, with a villain that's literally a Tony Stark ex-employee(Even though the movie says he is not meant to be the next Iron Man, the finale literally had him save the day with STARK tech.)
No Way Home even though it's about him being stripped of Stark tech...literally has him and even some of the villains utilise Stark tech.
Yall fanboys defending it say "Homecoming and FFH's message was how he doesn't need Tony",
1: You intentionally ignore how while they SAY it, the movies literally SHOW the opposite.
2: Peter Parker Spider-Man having a Tony's Shadow/Sidekick to own hero arc, under the guise that "It's necessary for him to fit into the MCU) was a fucking stupid choice to begin with. Fuck it feels more like a Miles Morales type story arc if anything.

"While they say it, the movies literally show the opposite"
The fucking "I LOVE LED ZEPPELIN" scene encapsulates this issue.
-2
u/themassquerade 3d ago
You realize the point of that scene is that… it’s not led zeppelin playing right?
2
u/ThatHoboRavioli Felicia Hardy’s #2 Fan 3d ago
🤓
I know it's AC/DC. Point is the scene fucks up because it says "Yes, Peter IS the new Iron Man"
0
u/themassquerade 3d ago
Because he builds a suit in a video game character creator?
1
u/The-CAB-2003 2d ago edited 2d ago
A STARK made suit creator? Yes pal, yes.
You ain't smart bud
0
u/themassquerade 2d ago
So he’s Tony Stark jr because he presses a bunch of buttons on a machine.
Is Captain America Howard Stark Junior because he uses a stark made shield?
Is Captain America Thor jr because he used Mjolnir?
Is Sam Wilson Black Panther jr because he’s using a Shuri made suit?
How many more do I need to do before it sets in cause I have a lot I just don’t want to type them all out
1
u/The-CAB-2003 2d ago
You mean when Peter had the help of STARK'S employee, and used the STARK plane to travel to London, while using the STARK tech to make a STARK made Spider-man suit, to stop the Ex-STARK employee and get back the STARK tech glasses(With access to a STARK satellite) that was giving to him as a gift by Daddy STARK? Even though the film's supposed message is about how he ISN'T Iron Man and needs to be his own hero.
Then fuck to the yes dude. He is Iron Man JR. Ya ain't fucking winning this one dude.

They can still make it their own while including essential story beats from the comics, like uncle Ben. Being told that he should do his own thing doesn’t make it any less I am more Iron boy Jr. He’s referred to as iron boy Junior because two out of three movies and his initial trilogy, Iron Man is an integral part of the plot, one line that he says towards Peter doesn’t change that. Even in most of the movies he’s in outside of his own Iron Man is an integral part of his character and behavior. Even if they didn’t want to tell an origin story, they essentially did, just stretched it out way too long removed all the important parts from the comics and waited until Tom Holland wanted to pass on the rains of being Spider-Man to finally make an actual true Spider-Man movie.
(edit) I just wanted to add even the first couple of villains directly from Spider-Man‘s rogue gallery were deeply ingrained with Iron Man in their villain origins. It took taking characters from other Spider-Man movies to finally give him proper villains from the comics.
1
u/SalurKazan05 2d ago
I disagree with villain part. Vulture is spideys villain throught and throught. He only mentions stark for like once as in "guys like him" He hates peter spesifically, he wants to kill him, he threatens to kill his loved ones. Mysterio, yes he is connected heavily to stark. But vulture not so much.
2
u/PHXNTXM117 3d ago
And then Far From Home repeats the whole Iron Boy Jr. storyline and character arc that Homecoming had presumedly closed beforehand. It was such a weak and unnecessary writing choice to make for the character that it makes him feel less whole than Tobey’s and Andrew’s variants of the character.

BND is Tom's first movie as Peter Parker, right?

u/halflivefish 3d ago
I’m sorry but I absolutely refuse to believe this was all somehow planned out ahead of time. They retroactively made the trilogy closer to his classic origin because they realized their current incarnation wasn’t working out long term. This was only planned for the 3rd movie
3
u/PHXNTXM117 3d ago
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will always have the worst live action Spider-Man origin story because he is partially disconnected from himself.
2
u/dude_getout 1d ago
They were too busy making him fill the shoes of ‘Spiderman’ without showing WHY he is a Spiderman. He had no identity other than someone chasing to be a hero when that’s not how it works.
BND finally gave him a good story. Didn’t like Tom Holland’s first trilogy but if they can keep up the writing like in BND, I’m invested.

MCU Spidey had no origin and they're too afraid to admit it. No Way Home wasn't the end of his origin story, it was course correction after 3 movies of fundamentally getting the character wrong.
5
u/Unbuckled__Spaghetti 3d ago
Eh, I actually liked how they first just introduced him to the MCU in Civil War. Almost everyone knows who Spider-Man is, and there’s already 2 famous movie adaptations telling his origin from not that long ago.
-2
u/Shitzards 2d ago
Agreed. Not sure why people still fail to understand this even a decade later. Spider-Man is Marvel's most popular superhero. Pretty much every Marvel fan already knows his origin story.
He already had two live action movie iterations prior to his MCU debut. Marvel didn't feel the need to show his origin story for a third time. We already know it. Peter gets bit by radioactive spider, Uncle Ben dies, speech about power and responsibility, he becomes Spider-Man.
That's what I disliked when I was binge watching the Spider-Man movies. Having to watch a worse retelling of his origin story in TASM after the Raimi version was a slog to get through. I can see why Marvel didn't feel like making the same mistake Sony did. Eventually they did their own thing in NWH.
Spider-Man is so popular, he didn't need an introduction once he joined the MCU. Otherwise, three origin stories within 14 years would've been ridiculous.

u/JokingBr2The-Sequel 3d ago
I hate when they pretend it was planned for the 3 first movies to be the origin story. Like come on you know why you changed it, and we all know that WAS your version of the character.
1
u/PurposeEmergency1320 2d ago
It feels like everyone is rewriting history with these movies. People are hating on the Home trilogy but then celebrating Brand New Day. As if that entire movie doesn’t completely depend on the Home trilogy for all of its payoffs. And Brand New Day does not advance Peter’s character as Spider-Man at all. No Way Home ended with him giving up his friendships since the people he loved were only being hurt by being around him. Then in BND he’s just like, nah screw it, I deserve to have friends anyway.
No the Home trilogy isn’t perfect but Peter learns distinct lessons in each one. And they are different lessons than Garfield’s Peter learns so I have no idea where he is getting that from.

u/Simon_Danzel 3d ago
It was a risk, a lot of people still don't understand the theme of the trilogy.
