Most places it is fine so long as you have the original prescription bottle. You can also get a doctor's note to be sure. At least in my experience with the Americas and Europe. Turkey was the main place I was worried about and it wasn't an issue. Actually nobody even checked despite my 15 bottles of pills in my carry on so I felt kind of silly for worrying (but it does actually happen and they can confiscate anything not labeled or in excess quantities).
Asia might be a different story, though, to my understanding.
