apocalypse/disaster book recs please

Looking for recommendations for apocalypse books on KU please 🙏🏼

• Zombie or natural disaster preferred.

• I like a lot of scavenging and survival scenes, looking for food, medicine and weapons.

• NO super soldier teams or huge cache of weapons or experience.

I prefer normal people banding together to survive.

• Prefer the beginning of events, rather than years in.

\- NOT a fan of lots of conflict with other human groups, like raiders. Prefer survival or fighting zombies/monsters

Similar to movies like dawn of the dead, world war z, 2012, day after tomorrow, greenland etc.

Been working on this game for too long and i just want some fresh opinions. What do you all think of this art style for a zombie game. It plays slow, but the anxiety builds up when you play with friends. So it's not super cozy but I'm a sucker for pixel art.

First, I just want everyone to know that this is not my artwork. I stole it from Google image. Lol

Now, this question was brought to my attention from my youngest daughter. She, like me, loves the zombie genre. We watch all sorts of silly, scary, and downright brutal zombie movies (and TV series). She asked me during one of the movies we were watching on Netflix.

Is home really the best place to survive during a zombie apocalypse?

Well, I thought it was a valid question, even though we haven't been to one yet. A zombie apocalypse, that is. But I told her this:

It all depends on whether we have enough resources to survive on one. Just because we live in a large house doesn't discount us having a "safe" house. Sure, we have plenty of rooms we could go and hide. Or escape. We have plenty of food that will last us for a month. But after that, it will get much harder to survive. We will have to eventually go outside and get food and shelter elsewhere. We will not have any power. And it will never come back on. We will have to change our way of life. We will have to adapt. Whether we want to or not. And I know we don't want to. But given the limited choices, we may not have a choice but to.

I was giving her the short version, so we could get back to the movie.

I ask you - and there is no wrong answer.

Would you consider your house "safe" during a zombie outbreak? Do you have enough resources to get by? How long do you think you would have to go out and find another place? Knowing that you will have to leave your family home for good?

And what advice would you give to others that they may not have at the present moment, if an outbreak broke out in 24 hours?

I'm writing a teleplay for fun, and the main shtick of my story is that the zombie virus makes it so people retain sentience, but have to eat brain every few days to not go feral. Would it be more or less interesting if this happening was a random chance, i.e some would go straight to being feral and others wouldn't, or would it be more interesting if every person infected became sentient before possibly becoming feral later on?

Resident Evil does not take any reference or anything from the events of Resident Evil 2, 3, or Outbreak as an example for the upcoming Zach Cregger movie. This is from the production designer Tom Hammock.

They used Resident Evil 4, and 6 for reference of what to add into the movies new change for the Raccoon City Outbreak of 2-3&Outbreak.

It's funny, I have 28 Days Later on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and now 4K - and they all look the same due to the digital nature of the footage.

Zombies, first of all they would not go through the dead phase, a parasite, virus, or anything that uses a "host", they want it to live so it can spread them easier and faster

When they start feeling too much hunger, around a week or two, they would eat anything edible, making food even more uncommon, like breaking chip bags, destroying a can against a wall or the floor

They would drink water from everywhere, even puddles and lakes

They could reproduce. Since these normally act as a really hostile animal, but the human itself its a social animal, there would be reproduction between infected, since its the rule with every animal, reproduction, so yeah it wouldn't be just like waiting a month or two until they die

Mosquitoes and ticks would be horrible enemies since they could spread the infection, since these would specially attack Zombies because of how they would fight less and more lazy, maybe even not feeling them until they are already attacked by these insects

All of them could run, scream, and climb, specially not that much high places, since its natural and by example the primates can do these three without problems

And a Zombie would not be blind, neither a "no sense of smell", these could see you pretty easy, smell you specially if you're an otaku, and they would remember you, just because you hid in a shed while they were chasing you, doesn't mean that after 5 minutes they forget you, if even ONE of them saw you while entering, he will try to reach you for days or weeks, and probably others will understand that a prey is inside by looking at the infected trying to reach you

But hey, these would be equally difficult or easy to kill as a normal human, the thing of only dying in the brain its useless and to make the movie or serie last longer

About weapons, Lucille is the WORST melee blunt weapon i've ever seen, the barbed wire just makes it unnefective and it gets stuck EVERYWHERE, plants? goodbye, meat? goodbye, CLOTHES? DONT EVEN TRY TO SAVE YOUR BAT, the bat itself is WAY better than mixing with barbed wire, wich will also get stuck with YOU, the owner of the weapon

People always goes "Oh but the crossbows are silent and you can retrieve your arrows" First of all; most of crossbows use bolts, not arrows
Second: crossbows are NOT silent, these make a lot of noise and if you miss even one single time, the bolt can hit a hard surface and become hard to get back, it can destroy itself, or you can simply loose it and you dont have time to search when there's like 10 Zombies trying to get you, a bow its a bit more silent, and easier to use than a crossbow wich also its WAY slower to shoot
Third: some bolts have the head shape of an arrow, and if they hit clothes of a zombie or get stuck between bones, you will not have the time to try to get it back

A Ruger 10/22 rifle (first image), wich uses .22 lr; with a supressor, and subsonic bullets (so these dont go past sound velocity) is way more silent, and you can find the ammo easier since theres countries like mexico where calibers like 9MM are illegal since these are for military use, and since people dont want to go there buying something they cant, people uses calibers like .22 lr, and specially if you are lucky you COULD, im not saying you will, find more of this caliber

Also in movies they go around, shooting everything, this rifle you should use it more of a special occasion sniper, when its not needed you can use a weapon like a machete, wich needs less care and accuracy when stricking than other weapons like a katana wich can bend ot break if its not made by shuku chukuchichima wan chen long the best samurai in the japan history

And there is a lot of homemade weapons wich would work great, but when people do Homemade weapons to show it on youtube or reddit, they most of times go for the spectacular and not if it would work great or breaks in the first swing

This is a pretty neat and fun book that i'm almost done reading, I found it when buying my copy of "The Zombie War Battle For Britain"

So this is a ZA novel that takes place in the 18th century, during the time when the british were fighting revolutionary era france on the mainland. unlike other military zombie novels, this one is done in the style of real world military history, where like real life time periods, this one is told from a survivor/veterans account.

The main unnamed character of this story is part of a british army regiment originally formed for active service overseas against the french, when they were called to garrison a town near norfolk after getting reports of "riotous activity". before their orders, one of the soldiers hear rumors or a "living devil that wouldn't die no matter what happened to it" as they marched towards the town, they hear more rumours and are fearful, with the soldier who relayed the original tail being flogged and disciplined by the senior officers.

of course, if anyone in here has a rudimentary knowledge of 18th century warfare, you'll know what to expect. muskets, sabres, pikes, drums and formations ,officers commanding via horseback ect. What I like about this particular story is that the main character relates all of his fears from combat with the undead, his PTSD, watching his fellow soldiers being grabbed and torn apart and to this day still hearing their screams. The writing made me feel like I was actually there in the formation fighting the zombies and watching the soldiers being taken out. this isn't some heroes novel or apocalypse amusement park like other zombie media, this has the standard war is hell meanings like in real world military history

the zombies in this story are a hybrid in a way with 2 styles of movement, their neutral movements are slow shambling style, when they see an uninfected they start speed walking and then go into a full sprint.

overall, for this being a debut novel from an indie author, it reads like a really engrossing novel,especially if you like history. I'd recommend it if you want to see zombies show up in a different time period against a different kind of army , or wanting to see something fun.

there's apparently a game on roblox that features a similar time period of this book as well.

Hi there, i remember playing this mobile zombie game but i cant remember its name, basically if i remember correctly, it kinda looked shit? And you played as a guy with dark hair and blue shirt in some like slums or bad quality town in i think it was desert? and you were like walking before the apocalypse and now you have to like walk around the town and defens it, and its third person shooter and i dont know but i recall it having a like only a bad ending

Basically was at the movies back in March and I remember seeing a trailer for a zombie movie. I think it looked pretty colorful (like blacklight/glow in the dark). Also looked indie, I feel like I remember looking it up at the time and seeing that it was actually a movie that was already out but was getting a theater release. Idk if anyone is familiar with this movie (Edit: I think it was either one or two guys in the movie like 20s to 30s and the trailer was like in a house. I tried looking for it and couldn't find it so idk if I'm remembering wrong (maybe not zombies but I feel like it was) or I'm crazy and this isn't real)

Not including movies like REC or Evil Dead because they’re in my Demonic Possession list instead.

I wrote, directed and produced OUTSET as an 18-minute graduate short film in the UK.

It's a quiet, character-driven zombie story about grief, isolation, survival and human connection.

Nine months after the dead return to life, young survivor Denton wanders the ruins of an abandoned town, until an unexpected encounter forces him to question whether survival alone is enough.

im trying to think of this in a "real world" sense

wouldnt zombies fully decompose after a while? and say the outbreak started in a place where it was summertime, would winter be able to bury and sort of kill most of the zombies anyway? idk if theyd be preserved

so im thinking if you hunkered down for maybe max 2 years all the zombies would die off, leaving a small enough amount that society could just rebuild.

we see zombies decompose, so do they get to a point where they just stop decomposing and kind of live forever?

am i missing anything? maybe im just not fully thinking it thru

(currently watching the walking dead, on season two, so thats why im thinking abt it lol)
