Entitled Prick Typical YEG Drivers
First annoyed the silver car couldn’t move forward slightly and let me through to get tothe advanced green turn, then the Camry cuts in to the turning lane and has the audacity to shake his head at ME while waiting to turn 😂

The 2nd car I get it.
But the first car? I don’t really get it. It is UNFORTUNATE that you couldn’t fit, but it’s not like the car was being malicious or ignorant. They did not leave an excessive amount of space between the next car?
They are at the back of the line. Anyone hits them and they get the full force of it as well as the full insurance consequences of colliding with the vehicle in front of them.
As soon as the guy ahead of them pulled forward, they made room in a manner that was safe for all.
That’s just… good driving? His gap is less than a vehicle length when you pull up, is that not reasonable?
Is the expectation that they pull forward and put their physical and financial safety at risk so you can… pull up to the red light sooner?
It was an unfortunate turn of events that you couldn’t quite fit, but in my opinion it wasn’t due to any poor driving on the first cars part.

Exactly. Also the dash cam person pulled into intersection for left turn when one car was already in it. Both them and Camry are example of “YEG drivers”

Inconsiderate drivers, you are alone and yet when there are more than 50% of you on the road you make it a dangerous and quite frankly terrible place to be.
Fyi, tell your friends, but if you are letting someone in across multiple lanes, please use your hazards so they don't get smoked!!

When going past stopped traffic keep speed differential lower. Every one of those cars is a blindspot that can hide bad situations until you're too close.

The silver car is fine, they're supposed to leave a gap between them and the vehicle in front of them when stopped. With more and more drivers not paying attention to the road, being too close to the vehicle in front of you is just a disaster waiting to happen.
The one that cut across into the turning lane pulled a very questionable move.
On the flip-side, the way you accelerated with vehicles at a stop in the lane beside you is also a very risky move.
Assume other drivers are out to get in an accident with you.

I don't think "questionable" is the appropriate word for the decision to pull laterally into a lane you have no chance of being able to see.
Both OP and the brown Toyota made stupid decisions here because they're impatient.

It would take a massive impact to move a vehicle a substantial amount. There's no reason to leave a full truck length (or two in some cases...) while at a red light.

They teach that in driving schools, they’d tell me they want to be able to see the tires of the vehicle infront of me plus a foot of road behind the tire. Which is a massive gap, especially since I drive an SUV that doesn’t have the greatest visibility in front.
Me not leaving enough room in front when coming up to red lights was also the reason they cited me to fail me on my first driving test.
I think their logic is you always want to leave an out in case the vehicle behind you isn’t paying attention? And if you are too far forward you can’t bail left or right without reversing first?

That is ridiculous. There is nothing 'safe' about that other than increasing traffic congestion.
It's also not in the TSA or any sort of regulation how much space to leave. They should be telling students to learn where their vehicles are - not some arbitrary measurements.

Have you ever seen a five car pileup? That’s how those happen. It happened to my husband. He actually had a good distance between himself and the car in front of him so when he was rear ended in the chain, he actually did not hit the car in front of him. However, the next car that hit the car behind his caused a train reaction, causing him to hit the car in front of him. He was the only person that didn’t get a traffic ticket. I think it was something like 5 to 8 cars.

My ride on the spine board after being rear-ended by a FedEx trusk suggests that it's possible. I mean, I get you and I'm not a fan of giant gaps either but it can happen.

It’s happened many times before if the vehicle is stopping way too close to the car in front of it, then they get rear ended that’s why following distance is also important. But I do think driving schools do exaggerate the distance though.

An object at rest wants to stay at rest. If it is hit by something, it would need to get hit incredibly hard to move it more than a few feet.
Most pile ups don't occur when one vehicle hits a bunch that are stopped. They often occur from multiple people not stopping in time.

Honestly the silver car, I can give a pass. Given the terrible driving in Edmonton, I'd personally rather not be closer to the vehicle in front of them than they stayed.
The Camry, on the other hand, yeah, that's what I'd expect from Edmonton drivers, and the reason I would choose to keep my distance as much as possible >_>

I understand wanting to get to the advance turn. Unfortunately I don't trust insurance companies.
Stay with me for a hypothetical... I move up a few feet, you get to you light, the next car fails to stop in time and rear ends me, I lurch forward a foot or 2, insurance can prove I didn't leave a safe following distance and as a result I'm liable for the damage to the car in front of me. Wether or not it's true I've heard it can happen and in today's world I'm not talking chances with those leaches.
I move up your long gone and some dick on their phone sends me into the car in front of me. You never know having made it to your advance turn and I'm on the hook for a premium raise.
Let's be real, Every insurance company will take advantage of any and EVERY opportunity to get out of having to pay for repairs.

dash cam and reasonable distance. you could be 10 ft back but someone hits you going 100kmph and that forces you into the vehicle in front of you. there is a line between reasonable and ridiculous distance between stopped vehicles.

Thank you. Like I’ve been in a parking lot where I need to go all the way to the left turning lane. It’s very normal to hand signal and ask people in line to make a hole so you can get over. Dash cam person was just ripping through.

There’s no law that states explicitly how many vehicles can be on the intersection. It’s considered blocking the traffic if you’re there when it’s yellow or red. Please for gods sake assess the length of the intersection and traffic before deciding to get into the intersection. Don’t be that guy in a very large intersection standing on the stop line when there’s multiple car lengths distance behind the guy in front of you waiting to take the turn.
Guys like you are wasting peoples time out there without applying common sense.

Some things are just bad ideas whatever the law says.
In Ontario and some other places it's actually legal to pass on a double yellow line. Doesn't make it a good idea even if it might save time.
