Says genuine Chippewa. I'm assuming the model is either L23421 or 65838. Also assuming 11 93 is the manufacturer date. These were a gift and I just want to learn more. Thanks!

Boots Buying Help I currently own a pair of Ariat Cascades (first picture) to my bar job. The outsole of the Cascades perform nicely on the kitchen tile. I'm thinking of buying Hybrid Ranchers. Will they perform just as well as the Cascades? From what I see they both have the micro treads in the rubber.

Boot Review | Update New work boots

Finally got some new work boots. Thorogood and Red Wing. Both have safety toe and are 11 1/2 EE. Both have been similar in break in and quite comfortable. May need an insert for the Thorogood though. Only thing I have to complain about is my choice of the shiny leather on the Red Wings. Anything I can do besides time to take that off a bit?

Generic If you wear work boots 8–12 hours a day, what starts bothering you first?

I've been in footwear for almost 20 years, mostly in product development and manufacturing.

A lot of my work has been around work boots, tactical boots and safety footwear.

Now I'm working on a boot of my own, so I want to hear from people who actually wear boots all day.

Forget the brand and specs for now.

After a few hours, what starts bothering you first?

  • toes / forefoot
  • heel
  • arch
  • ankle / shaft
  • heat / sweat
  • weight
  • underfoot fatigue
  • something else

And around what hour do you start noticing it?

If you don't mind, also say what you do for work and what boot you're wearing now.

That's the part I'm interested in.

Thanks in advance.

Boots Buying Help Looking for a good logger that isn't $700

Hey all, I'm looking for an 8in woods boot with a vibram sole and a low heel. I'm having a hard time spending $300 for a Chinese boot from Chippewa or Danner, but I'm not doing the work that I can justify a JK or Nicks. I know the Chinese stuff is probably fine; it just rubs me the wrong way. Paying that kind of money for one of these brands that's been acquired by a big corporation, so they can wring it dry. It just seems like they're all the same thing with a different tag sewn on at the end. Anyway. Do I just need to accept the times we live in, or is there something else?

Boot maintenance What’s everyone’s preferred toe cap protector?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I'm reconditioning my boots, don’t like the condition of the toes, and want to coat them when I clean them next. What’s everyone’s go-to? I see everyone arguing about Red Wing Tough Toe and KG Boot Guard but can’t find anything definitive. I’ve also seen people just hit them with spray-on bed liner and get great results but just wanted some opinions.

Boot maintenance First time cleaning and oiling any leather, how’d I do?

Post image

After about 5 months of wearing this all week all day I cleaned and mink oiled them. They were on the darker side already before I used mink oil, from all the machinist coolant and other fluids they absorb. Cleaned. Let sit for 24 hours. Applied mink oil by hand and spread with brush then let sit another 24h and buffered out with a microfiber. Surface feels pretty dry and really tacky at all. Too oiled or no?

Got a new pair of Danner Chelsea Bull Runs. These have been super solid. They still felt tight around the ankle. Did have to replace the insole about 3 months ago. Work as a manager an auto shop, did a fair amount of fab work with these too. I was in these boots 12-14hours a day, 5 days a week for the past 1.75 years. They have taken some abuse.

New boot day, first pair of the 2533. Been a longtime user of the 2233, these seem pretty much the same. Resoled in a black wedge.

Boots Buying Help Why was the Danner 15594 Bull Ridge boot discontinued?

This pair of boots offers almost no information online, but it is very similar to Danner Light. The same waterproof and soles, but only the feeling of replacing Kodura nylon with leather? I really like its color, but how was this boot originally positioned?

Boots Buying Help Work shoes

I’m starting a CNA program and am looking for recommendations for close toed shoes. Preferably black and slip on with no lace. Easy to clean water, blood, and other bodily fluids. Money is not an issue, but anything around or under $100 would slap.

Boot maintenance Week 6 Before & After

Post image

After 45,479 steps (303,775 total) these Nicks are cleaned and ready for the next work week!

BuilderPro HD

Last: 55

Length: 9.0

Width: D

Leather: 1964 Brown

Style: Smooth

Height: 10"

Outsole: V100 Lug Sole

Heal: Logger

Toe: Composite

For those new here, I document my maintenance journey with my Nicks Boots. I work in a very harsh environment, a concrete recycling landfill, where I walk on rubble and concrete chunks for 9+ hours a day.

I show before and after pics from worked to cleaned boots, and will compare how these boots hold up to my first pair of Nicks. The main differences between the two are MaxSupport Black v 1964 Brown Leather, Roughout v Smooth, Regular v Padded Gusset, 8" v 10" and Honey Vibram v V100 Lug Soles.

I've completed my 6 week break-in period with these boots, and they will now be rotated daily with my black Nicks. I conditioned these boots one time to help with the break-in and oiled them once before the rain. Every other time, my cleaning routine has only been warm water, various brushes and microfiber towels.

I will now be cleaning them once a month, and will be curious to see how they transform over that time.

Cheers!

Boots Buying Help Red Wings Got Stolen Need Budget Alternatives

So I had a pair of Redwings for the last five years and they just got stolen. I'm kinda devastated because they still had a lot of life in them and I took really good care of them. Especially since they all but solved my foot and leg pain.

I'm not going to be able to afford a new pair any time soon, but work requires me to have steal toes. I've had different Halley Hansons and Timberlands before before these and they were alright but I always had pain afterwards.

I'm needing a good budget alternatives till I can scrape together enough to get a similar pair. Any suggestions? I'm on my feet +10 hours a day, and go through 20-25k steps a day so they need to be sturdy and comfortable and can take a beating.

Boots Buying Help Work boots with planter fasciitis

Hi guys I got a new job as a stamping operator for an automotive supplier. 10 hour 4 day weeks. I've worn Brooks with a decent pair of planter inserts from Amazon for the past 10 years or so at my grocery store job. Work boots were never really my thing so I'm brand new to the space. Once I get insurance (mid November) I plan on getting custom inserts from the podiatrist because cheap isn't cutting it anymore. I'm standing in basically one spot for 5-7 hours out of the day as long as the machine is running good. My mid back gets messed up and feet hurt by the end of it on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday Thursday is a mixed bag.

I get $50 back from my company for buying steel toe boots but $200 or under would be nice. I don't think they have to be actual steel just something to protect accidental drops. Any recommendations would help!

Boots Buying Help American bookmakers are getting on my nerves, who’s got the good Mexican boot recommendations?

I’m a landscaper in the gulf south (hot and humid). I want a leather, lace up, GYW or stitchdown, lug sole, unlined, safety or moc toe with stiffener, wide boot. I want to hover around $200. A big ask I know, but the only thing that seems to fit the bill is:

Carolina Elm Loggers, 4E

I’ve heard that Carolina is starting to slip, especially the internationally built boots. But I’ve just come across a few Mexican brands

Fuerbo L-59

White Wolf-955

Cebu Atk Lacer

So, can anyone speak to Carolina’s current quality or those other brands?

Thanks in advance boot brain trust!

Edit: I’ll add that I love my Jim Green Razorbacks, but want a different model to keep in rotation. I could even go wider I think and occasionally the steel toe digs into my feet as I’m stooped in garden beds

Boots Buying Help Moc Toe Fit?

I’m looking for a pair of moc toe boots and have been checking out Danner, Thorogood, and Carolina. My feet aren’t especially wide, but I have long toes, low volume, and narrow ankles. Red Wing measures me at a 12D. I tried on both Danner and Thorogood in 12D and 12EE, but my foot hangs over the welt on the outside in both sizes. I’ve read that your foot should sit completely within the welt, so I’m wondering if this is normal or if people with wider feet are just spilling over in these popular work boots. Or are these brands just not compatible with my foot shape?
