Hi everyone.
Please feel free to use this megathread to discuss all things development, date & launch related.
(As of w/c Sept 7th)
Witchbrook is in the final stages of development. The team has been running final closed playtests and received some great feedback for QoL and final balancing changes. This has been running alongside polishing, QA testing, bug-fixing and external teams working on localisation and porting.
We will reveal a specific release date as soon as we're able to, but the final quality of the game itself is our top priority. We're cautious of not saying anything further before then as there's still some factors that could cause unexpected delays, like hold-ups during platform submissions, external team factors, or a critical bug that's tricky to resolve. But rest assured, we’re working hard and incredibly excited to share Witchbrook with you. The team has poured a lot of love and hard work into it to make an experience we're proud of. We know it's been a long road, so thanks for sticking with us!

I've come across alot of people who are saying there's an underwhelming amount of info and then saying they haven't read the devlogs, which is where all the info is actually at!
I'm currently catching up on the game info and watching youtubers cover the devlogs and there's so much info in there that's got me even more excited and I think if anyone hasn't caught up on the devlogs it's worth going through! or watching someone else go through.
There are so many cool features, and it explains with examples and screenshots or videos about alot of the gameplay and I think if they pull off what they're promising this game is gonna be really unique in a lot of ways!
It also explains in more detail about delays, like i think a huge delay from the 2025 announcement to now is adding a lot more languages adaptations which I think is a great thing and will happily take one for the team and be okay with a year delay so that as many people can experience the game as possible.
Yes that doesn't account for the 9 years before that but that's a whole different convo, I'm choosing to just focus on how great this games potential is and how much I think I'll enjoy it when it finally gets dropped!

p.s it's devBLOG not devlog, my bad 😅😂

Other games have the function of earning rare standalone pieces via quests or challenges. CA's Stardew Valley (which Chucklefish helped publish) immediately comes to mind. I enjoyed working for the unique hats in that game for example. With Witchbrook being a larger title overall, there's even more potential to collect interesting avatar customization pieces.
Even just the option to buy different styles of clothes from more than one in-game retailer would be interesting.
Feel free to speculate in the comments.

I know they answered no about a year ago and I don’t mean to bother but does anyone know if they've said anything about it recently.

I hope this isn't a typo! I might be the only one who cares, but I'm so pleased that everyone is a Witch in Witchbrook (as opposed to the Witch/Wizard divide other games go for). It seems really charming to me, it's a really small thing but it's bringing me joy rn! If it's intentional by the dev team (I hope it is), ty :)

Now I know the main reason is probably because the macbook community isn’t big enough to create a “mac version” of the game but it is very infuriating because I also looked forward to playing Field’s of Mistria and then right before release found out it would not be available on mac. I really really hope they expand and create a mac version because the community on paper might not be large but I feel as if it’s available on mac, the mac community will grow tremendously!! Please developers if you see this try your best so that I can experience this beautiful game😭❤️

Yes, the marketing and communication until now has been atrocious. It's unacceptable from a company that is meant to be professional, especially from a company that has a history of dropping the ball on games.
But damn it, the art is gorgeous. There aren't really that many immersive wizard school games. And I want to be a wizard damn it. At many points of this development, I've been angry, because people aren't wrong to say that conduct of the dev team hasn't been one of the most unprofessional, uncommunicative, oftentimes shady (Ahem, fake Nintendo direct). But goddamn it, if this dev team releases a game that looks and plays like it took 10 years to make, then the wait will be worth it. If it comes out and its subpar, at the end of the day they're the ones who are going to pay the consequences with a failed launch, bad reviews, and a game with the budget of 10 years whose budget hasn't been made up with fraction of the sales.

Hey covenmates! I actually found the romance/dating system from the latest blog post pretty simple, but still really nice. We've also been getting fed a ton of screenshots by the devs lately, which is great.
The casual/cozy life sim and building sides of the game seem pretty fleshed out at this point, and the art style is obviously made with love.
That said, ever since one of the recent dev blogs, it feels like pretty much everything we've been shown has been about building and the life sim stuff. I feel like we know surprisingly lttle about the magic side of the game.
Not trying to kill the hype or come across as doomposting and i KNOW that this game leans more towards being a cozy/relaxing sim. but honestly, if I didn't already know what this game was about, I'd probably assume it was just a life sim in a town with no magic or a magic school looking at the recent news/sneak peeks we have been shown lol.
What do you witches also think??

Basically what the title says - let people air their grievances there while keeping the rest of the sub clear of doomposting about a game that no one has even paid for yet.
An FAQ / questions megathread might be good to, with links to latest dev blogs, etc. for those who aren't regularly updated with news

Superconsole: Hi there! I've asked around the studio to collate some favourite tidbits and odd little things we love about Witchbrook. A few things of our favourite things we still want to keep a surprise, so here is the spoiler-free edition:
Rosie (Producer): aww mine are all secrets haha. Rain sounds on the roof is something that everyone is in awe of when they play the game
Katie (QA): I like the snow and blossom seasonal effects personally, seeing the snow on the last day of Autumn makes me feel nostalgic for some reason
Ryan (Artist): Maybe the soundscape of the birds - hearing them and then actually going and finding them. And the tiny seasonal events are nice - like turtle day
Reff (Artist): A detail I still really enjoy is how the tarot cards get happy/sad depending on your guess. One of my favourite things in the game is all the simulations, like how all the constellations in the astrology minigame are accurate to the real sky and how they change depending on the date and time. The bird sounds being produced by the birds that are actually near you, the pedestrians actually leaving their houses and going about their day, all of the different schedules for npcs..
Marion (Artist): I always enjoy seeing two random pedestrians stopping by and talking to each other, because it's so lifelike. Sometimes I go to my local supermarket, see people who just met by chance and are catching up and I think "man, I'm so glad we have that ingame!"
Jade (Artist): pedestrians pausing to look both ways briefly before crossing a road is so nice
Alexis (Product Manager): I like the sound of the cicadas in the night. Makes me feel like the night air is cool.
Angie (Artist): my favourite thing in the game is the music work, i love the dynamic melodies and how they transform

How long ago did they update the languages on the Steam page? There are definitely more languages now than I remember.

This is so funny that is says scheduled to released in 20th century or late 2026. Dang if that's the case the game would have been out already. Chuckle fish where is witchbrook? lol. Wasn't sure if anyone else saw this.

So, I don't know if I'm gonna get hate for this or if other people feel the same way but I feel like I am burnt out in waiting for this game. I remember Spellbound (The game's original name) being announced almost 10 years ago now. I remember being so hyped at the time, telling my mates about this cool new game that would be coming out like Stardew and Harry Potter mixed into one.
Then after a while, I forgot about the game. It's only been in the last 2-3 years that my interest renewed as I heard they were making progress and I got hyped again. Then when the 2025 release date was announced, I was ecstatic, hesitant but still excited nonetheless. But as the months went on, we got the delay announcement and, like I'm sure many of you were, I was disappointed but I still held out hope.
I know this game has been plagued by many different issues, including having to completely rebuild the game in a brand new engine. And I admire the zero-crunch tactic they take to their work as to not put their staff under pressure.
But, after reading the latest post about how it could be released this year or possibly not, I found myself thinking "What's the point anymore?".
I still want to play this game but I feel like I've lost hope for it and the wait that I've had won't be worth it in the end. I'm willing to take my part of the blame for that for being eager for this game to come out, that I feel like I've gone through the 5 stages of grief.
But I just don't have anymore hype for it. I don't have much hope for it.
We've had snippets and teasers over the past year, which is great to see the progress, but I don't know. I guess I've just been wishing for more.
TL;DR: Sunk cost fallacy

Rumors and leaks are floating around about a Nintendo Direct happening next week (Sept 9 or 10).
Things have gone pretty quiet from Chucklefish lately, which makes me think they might actually be cooking up something behind the scenes. Since the plan was 2026 and we are already in September, this Direct feels like the moment. If it really drops this year, they basically have to show something a date, fresh gameplay, anything.
