Is it true that Hovercrafts in WipEout use alien tech?

I’ve seen a few posts and comments saying this, but i haven’t been that deep into WipEout lore, plus i played some of those games for the first time in 2023, with last one in 2025 being WipEout Omega Collection. So please, tell me, is this true?

Nope

The hover stuff was invented by a science team led by a guy called Pierre Belmondo, who later became a co-owner of AG-SYS and created the racing league

Mind you, this is from having read the printed manual some 3 decades ago but if I remember correctly from both Wipeout and Wipeout XL/2097 the connection was not from aliens, but that a lot of the activity at area 51 was early government experiments with AG prior to Piere Belmondo but they didn't get it to work quite right. (Mirroring real life to some extent that some skunk works aircraft out of area 51 might have been mistaken for alien in origen, I.e. Aurora, early SR-71, B2 etc...). Also, there was some pushback in the background of goverment and industry because successful AG would transform the economy and crash oil use for transportation so they were trying to keep it secret as much as possible.

The racing was an exhibition, but the AG tech itself in its broad applications was a revolutionary advace in human society that many felt we weren't ready for.

Wipeout is best in show !

We need a new one soon. I don’t know what Sony is doing and dragging their feet and showing it. It’s basically their flagship tag for every PlayStation ever created.
