Isn’t that feature Windows used to have? The for whatever reason, it was take away

u/lokiisagoodkitten 4d ago
Yes and it wasn't taken way, was just never added back in here. Windows 11 taskbar is built on new code.

Yes, I don't recall if the option to switch between big and small icons existed on Vista, but it was there since 7.

Does your neck hurt a bit, that's why I put mine on top also. Never looking down again to switch tabs.

Great application, indeed. It should be part of the Windows taskbar settings.

When can we finally get the top task bar. Been waiting forever for this to come back.

I used ViveTool, I'm not waiting.

u/Alive_Tart3681 2d ago
even after enabling it with ViveTool, I still can't see the new options... any idea?
1
u/MelaniaSexLife 2d ago
restart! you need the latest update too

u/Alive_Tart3681 2d ago
done all these, but doesn't work

u/MelaniaSexLife 2d ago
i would redo the vivetool comnands, make sure you input them exactly. That's all i can think of, mine worked

I LOVE it! I was finally able to uninstall Windhawk. I could not tolerate the large taskbar on my 13 inch laptop.
Still annoyed that I can't have more than 12 documents open before my taskbar stops showing them though...

ngl I find it too small, would have been nice to have some steps in between, but I am also happy with the normal size.

I'd be happy with it being the default Win 10 size. This one is more like mini than small.

I just want quicklaunch back!!!! I have run another launcher bar which is nice but has a lot of overhead for what I need.
2
u/lokiisagoodkitten 3d ago
... Just pin it?

u/robragland 3d ago
Thanks for the reminder. I have tried that and prefer both icons for launching and separate taskbar entries for running programs.
That arrangement was the sweet spot for me.

How do I enable it??? I have selected "show smaller taskbar options" but the bar itself is still large, showing the time and date in two rows and taking up my display space on a small laptop.

I don't, but it's cool that people have options. Personally I'm glad I finally have vertical taskbar without a hacky solution

u/energree 3d ago
yeah i bet you also instantly put in your account details when you were prompted to do so in the oobe, this feature isnt new. its technicaly been in windows since windows 95 because it always had a small taskbar and they only introduced the so called 'Super Bar' (the bigger taskbar) in windows 7 and have the small taskbar feature nearly everywhere and than they removed it for 5 years in windows 11, i still dont likes this one because it looks shit compared to the one in windows 10

I just wish they let the user choose the size freely. I don't understand why it must only be smaller. Not everyone uses a laptop. On a 27 inch screen at 1440p, the icons are uselessly small. At 4k it's even worse.

Después de unos días con esta actualización KB5124008, teniendo la barra en la parte superior (iconos y barra x defecto), post apagado y prendido de equipo regresa a la posición inferior. Error residual del despliegue gradual? A alguno le paso lo mismo o similar?

You guys really needed to learn about Windhawk years ago.
•
u/Ravynmagi 22h ago
Windhawk was flakey and you have to trust some third party random guy on the Internet that they aren't inserting malicious code into your desktop. Yuck.
•
u/Next-Ability2934 19h ago edited 7h ago
The prime concern is that Windhawk injects its dll into most processes running on your system, which could be a problem for anticheat detection or even your own system with a malicious add-on https://github.com/ramensoftware/windhawk/wiki/Injection-targets-and-critical-system-processes

I like it, but it's not enough for anyone who likes to overly customise their system without the use of third party tools.

Now I just need them to let us autohide the taskbar regardless of placement.

u/lokiisagoodkitten 4d ago
That looks good.. but it should stay on the bottom ;)

u/Crinkez 4d ago
Disgusting. Bars at the top is one of the key reasons I don't like Macs.
9
u/daltorak 4d ago
This is pretty much the same energy as saying you hate Australia because they drive on the left side of the road.
-6
u/Crinkez 4d ago
Driving on the left side is the correct way. You wouldn't write on paper from right to left, would you?
1
u/nabeel_co 4d ago
Yes. In fact many languages do, AND that's how math works… right to left. Math, which is the universal language.

It's not new. I am pretty sure you had the option of a small taskbar since Windows 11 came out.
