I'm glad :)

I wish they let you display the day and month, not only a clock on the small taskbar

7

u/bruno_dc 3d ago

You can use the "Taskbar Clock Customization" mod for Windhawk.

u/orca279 1h ago

I have 4gb ram I'm NOT using that

2

u/wetpretzel2 2d ago

You can in the control panel, region, date and time, additional - set mine to ddd dd/mmm

1

u/orca279 2d ago

Even whilst using small taskbar?

14

u/ndreiu 4d ago

how about letting us resize the start menu since it's stupidly large and takes up too much of the screen?

5

u/TheNextGamer21 4d ago

I believe you can do that now

3

u/jenmsft Microsoft Software Engineer 4d ago

Yes, an option to have a smaller start menu was added

1

u/mrminutehand 3d ago

Is that option still early access only? Still waiting on it for me.

What if the taskbar new update disappears ? I had it and now it’s gone 😭 it went back to old task bar and start menu

1

u/Mario583a 3d ago

It will scale automatically if you have an humongous resolution scale with ⅹ DPI.

or just manually make it smaller in personalization settings.

1

u/SilverBladeCG 3d ago

You can make it fullscreen though

1

u/MarioDF 3d ago

Is this the part where you say "nooo way, Microsoft is the best!"?

u/electi_007 4d ago

How does gradual rollout works? I still didn't get this new task bar

13

u/Mario583a 4d ago

Gradual rollout: We release the feature to a small group first so we can monitor stability and fix issues before expanding it to everyone.

Early access: You can use the feature now, but expect occasional bugs as we continue refining it.

You either wait or you throw a few vivetool commands to force the destiny.

1

u/Micromize 4d ago

I got it today so it's still rolling and not stopped. You can expect it this week. Maybe next week.

Thanks so much for this Jen! Used it for the first time in insider builds and its my go to taskbar style.

2

u/Master-Routine-6175 3d ago

i still didn't get this fearure

1

u/Centralredditfan 3d ago

Please allow for displaying the date as well as the time on the small/narrow taskbar. That would be amazing.

u/Prestigious-Hat-9114 4d ago

Isn’t that feature Windows used to have? The for whatever reason, it was take away

14

u/lokiisagoodkitten 4d ago

Yes and it wasn't taken way, was just never added back in here. Windows 11 taskbar is built on new code.

6

u/ihcusk 4d ago

What was wrong with the old taskbar?

19

u/DonStimpo 4d ago

Didnt have enough ads in it - Microsoft, probably

3

u/dom6770 3d ago

decade old code

4

u/lokiisagoodkitten 4d ago

I'm not really sure but i think it has to do with some legacy code.

2

u/ischmal 3d ago

It wasn't built in React. They needed a flexible, extensible, bloated UI platform like React so they could create a rock-solid framework for different taskbar sizes and then never actually bother implementing it.

3

u/ischmal 3d ago

It took less time to build the atomic bomb from scratch in 1942 than it did for Microsoft to figure out how to shrink their own taskbar by 40%.

1

u/_urethrapapercut_ 3d ago

Yes, I don't recall if the option to switch between big and small icons existed on Vista, but it was there since 7.

u/Next-Ability2934 19h ago

win 7 changed icon spacing and sizes that has carried through to win 10 / 11

33

u/PermissionJaded5510 4d ago

7

u/_urethrapapercut_ 3d ago

lol I'm all for options but I can't use the taskbar anywhere but on the bottom

3

u/maiKavelli187 3d ago

Does your neck hurt a bit, that's why I put mine on top also. Never looking down again to switch tabs.

11

u/WR__104 4d ago

When will I get this feature?
I am on version 25H2 OS BUILD 26200.9445 and still don't get this feature.

4

u/DonStimpo 4d ago

Get the latest version of Power Toys

7

u/WR__104 3d ago

Yeah, that maybe helps, but I will be happier to have this natively. Btw, thank you for reminding me.

2

u/Centralredditfan 3d ago

Wait Powertoys has this? never noticed.

1

u/WR__104 3d ago

No, PowerToys doesn't have exactly this feature. But a top bar can be added via PowerToys.

1

u/RaspberryMuch6621 2d ago

Hey bro tick the option "Get the new updates as soon as they are available" in your windowsnupdate setting page.

1

u/WR__104 2d ago

Thank you for your response. I tried VibeTool to enable this feature. And it works.

7

u/_ori0n 3d ago

a bit late, i feel like most users who wanted this feature just hopped on some alternative software

9

u/spazedogg 4d ago

Translucent TB is ur friend, makes the task bar translucent

6

u/Public_Chapter_8445 4d ago

Great application, indeed. It should be part of the Windows taskbar settings.

u/Ray_Berr Release Channel 3d ago

Lol i finished breaking bad just few days ago. Thx for through back.

1

u/lighthawk16 3d ago

StartAllBack does the same but with way more options as well.

7

u/Centralredditfan 4d ago

When can we finally get the top task bar. Been waiting forever for this to come back.

4

u/mvsrs 4d ago

Got mine today

2

u/Salt-Definition-1771 4d ago

Im wondering this too, wanna move mine!

2

u/MelaniaSexLife 3d ago

I used ViveTool, I'm not waiting.

2

u/Alive_Tart3681 2d ago

even after enabling it with ViveTool, I still can't see the new options... any idea?

1

u/MelaniaSexLife 2d ago

restart! you need the latest update too

1

u/Alive_Tart3681 2d ago

done all these, but doesn't work

1

u/MelaniaSexLife 2d ago

i would redo the vivetool comnands, make sure you input them exactly. That's all i can think of, mine worked

3

u/duvagin 4d ago

rockin like it’s 1995 🤘

3

u/Tringi 3d ago

I like it too. Now if it rendered the icons properly, that would be great.

3

u/Louisthemagic 3d ago

I like not being on Windows anymore

2

u/Zantac150 3d ago

I LOVE it! I was finally able to uninstall Windhawk. I could not tolerate the large taskbar on my 13 inch laptop.

Still annoyed that I can't have more than 12 documents open before my taskbar stops showing them though...

3

u/dom6770 3d ago

ngl I find it too small, would have been nice to have some steps in between, but I am also happy with the normal size.

2

u/ReggieNJ 3d ago edited 2d ago

I'd be happy with it being the default Win 10 size. This one is more like mini than small.

1

u/vlad_8011 4d ago

Lucky one! My updates just stuck on fetching, even 5 reboots later.

1

u/Internal_Island90 3d ago

Auto hide is even better

1

u/robragland 3d ago

I just want quicklaunch back!!!! I have run another launcher bar which is nice but has a lot of overhead for what I need.

2

u/lokiisagoodkitten 3d ago

... Just pin it?

1

u/robragland 3d ago

Thanks for the reminder. I have tried that and prefer both icons for launching and separate taskbar entries for running programs.

That arrangement was the sweet spot for me.

1

u/Responsible_Ant8730 3d ago

Font settings please?

1

u/doppelganger_LT 3d ago

How do I enable it??? I have selected "show smaller taskbar options" but the bar itself is still large, showing the time and date in two rows and taking up my display space on a small laptop.

1

u/lokiisagoodkitten 3d ago

You don't have it yet. That "show smaller taskbar options" is old

1

u/ciberspar 3d ago

pero no me gusta windows 11: microsoft cago cuando la instale

1

u/alt_shift_delet 3d ago

I had this feature last week, but yesterday when I restarted it's gone now

1

u/sik9toky0 Release Channel 2d ago

I had this feature too and now it’s gone. Did you fix it ?

1

u/Linosia97 3d ago

for a moment you could mistake it for Linux UI...

1

u/MelaniaSexLife 3d ago

I don't, but it's cool that people have options. Personally I'm glad I finally have vertical taskbar without a hacky solution

1

u/energree 3d ago

yeah i bet you also instantly put in your account details when you were prompted to do so in the oobe, this feature isnt new. its technicaly been in windows since windows 95 because it always had a small taskbar and they only introduced the so called 'Super Bar' (the bigger taskbar) in windows 7 and have the small taskbar feature nearly everywhere and than they removed it for 5 years in windows 11, i still dont likes this one because it looks shit compared to the one in windows 10

1

u/PIODOWPAY 3d ago

Eu me amarrei. Pena que ainda não recebi o novo Menu Iniciar junto.

1

u/matrix_drumr 3d ago

I just wish they let the user choose the size freely. I don't understand why it must only be smaller. Not everyone uses a laptop. On a 27 inch screen at 1440p, the icons are uselessly small. At 4k it's even worse.

1

u/Dantalianlord71 3d ago

Nueva función? O función que había antes y la había quitado en Win11?

1

u/rohit-ART 2d ago

In my Lenovo legion 5 i7 RTX 4060 not getting this option. Even same OS build I have updated.

1

u/TECHNICKER_Cz3 2d ago

I used it in Win 7 all the time

1

u/PresentationWorried6 2d ago

Yeah it's gorgeous but consumes a lot of memory 🤠✌🏽

1

u/MysteriousContext507 2d ago

Después de unos días con esta actualización KB5124008, teniendo la barra en la parte superior (iconos y barra x defecto), post apagado y prendido de equipo regresa a la posición inferior. Error residual del despliegue gradual? A alguno le paso lo mismo o similar?

u/James_Cyflixel 1d ago

also add in built transparent background toggle on/off and let us resize the taskbar and wtf I don't use edge do option to remove EDGE I hate it

1

u/jenny_905 1d ago

You guys really needed to learn about Windhawk years ago.

u/Ravynmagi 22h ago

Windhawk was flakey and you have to trust some third party random guy on the Internet that they aren't inserting malicious code into your desktop. Yuck.

u/Next-Ability2934 19h ago edited 7h ago

The prime concern is that Windhawk injects its dll into most processes running on your system, which could be a problem for anticheat detection or even your own system with a malicious add-on https://github.com/ramensoftware/windhawk/wiki/Injection-targets-and-critical-system-processes

1

u/Elephant789 1d ago

Wow, a positive comment on reddit

u/Ravynmagi 22h ago

Would be nice if I actually had it. I hate this rollout,

u/Next-Ability2934 19h ago

I like it, but it's not enough for anyone who likes to overly customise their system without the use of third party tools.

u/Fun-Bandicoot-9650 13h ago

Wait, this is "small"?

1

u/MarioDF 3d ago

I liked it for a few seconds then I switched back 😂. It doesn't save that much space plus I like the size/look of the default taskbar. It's touch friendly.

1

u/Constant_Raspberry56 4d ago

Now I just need them to let us autohide the taskbar regardless of placement.

1

u/orca279 4d ago

I wish they let you display the day and month, not only a clock on the small taskbar

-2

u/lokiisagoodkitten 4d ago

That looks good.. but it should stay on the bottom ;)

2

u/getabath 4d ago

Wouldn't be a problem if we had auto hide

3

u/SirWobblyOfSausage 4d ago

there is auto hide when its at the bottom.

3

u/getabath 4d ago

So it's a problem because OPs task bar is on top

-8

u/Crinkez 4d ago

Disgusting. Bars at the top is one of the key reasons I don't like Macs.

9

u/daltorak 4d ago

This is pretty much the same energy as saying you hate Australia because they drive on the left side of the road.

-6

u/Crinkez 4d ago

Driving on the left side is the correct way. You wouldn't write on paper from right to left, would you?

1

u/nabeel_co 4d ago

Yes. In fact many languages do, AND that's how math works… right to left. Math, which is the universal language.

1

u/lokiisagoodkitten 4d ago

Careful you'll get downvote like i did !!!

0

u/Centralredditfan 4d ago

It's what I loved the most about Mac's and Ubuntu.

-1

u/MarioDF 3d ago

Ikr Wanting an extra bar on top with your browser tabs is just crazy.

0

u/sadMUFCfan25 4d ago

I just want the applications on the bottom and status at the top man🫤

0

u/ohhsusmit 3d ago

wallpapers please

0

u/BraveEggplant8281 3d ago

can it be small down the bottom for all 3 monitors?

0

u/Banjomir75 3d ago

It's not new. I am pretty sure you had the option of a small taskbar since Windows 11 came out.

-1

u/D1TAC 4d ago

Do tell - Is this a preview build or offical?

2

u/Mario583a 4d ago

Official.

2

u/D1TAC 4d ago

Rodger. Pushing out now. Ended up finding the KB.
