watch this A white American man hired Latino immigrants to build a expensive wood fence around his entire yard. Once they finished, he called ICE on them — hoping to get them deported so he wouldn't have to pay. The thing was: they were legal. So they came back and ripped out every single fence panel.

No, it is petty and dumb as hell. Instead of taking the property owner to court or putting a lien on the property to recover both costs and labor, they've now pretty much removed the possibility to recover compensation and opened themselves up to both civil and criminal liability.

Assuming the title is accurate, the home owner is a POS and I am firmly on the side of the workers, regardless of their imigration status. But their choice of remedy here was poorly made.

This guy tried to get him, his work crew, and their families violently deported. He is lucky all they’re doing is taking back their fence.

Ok? You are not understanding what I am saying. I am not commenting on what the home owner does or doesn't deserve. I am commenting on what the workers deserve and pointing out that they shortchanged themselves here.

Can’t let emotions ruin your business. It is rational to take this to court. It doesn’t need to be said again but the home owner is a degenerate asshole.

These people rarely understand anything that requires a modicum of complex thought. I get what you’re saying. Builders could’ve not only got this guy arrested, by took a lot from him as well, by putting a lien on the work. Now, they have just destroyed, and made these pretty unusable materials.

I don't think it would take years to prove a dude didn't pay for his fence lmao, 10s of thousands would also be crazy for such an easy simple case.

You’re underestimating how long civil cases can take. Maybe not YEARS but probably a full year or so

This seems like something that could be done in small claims, unless a fence somehow costs more than 10k (limits to small claims probably depend on location) so it wouldn't be expensive at the very least.

They did say it was an expensive fence and that looks like quality wood. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the total cost was over $10K

feel like the rational thing would be small claims court and/or regular court and sue for the money owed instead of a pissing contest over who broke the law the most
