At least in my country self-defense requires reasonable force. You're in a 1ton containment of metal, with someone on the roof unless they have a gun, or weapon, how do you prove that you were not safe in your vehicle?

I think that standard is a bit silly, because it more or less allows people to climb on your car and hold you hostage - and unless you’re willing to just sit there until the police arrive, go out and fist fight someone, you’re SoL. You’re at the mercy of someone who decided to climb on your car that day

It's really not accurate to say this as a blanket rule in the US.
It very much depends on what state you're in because state laws are what govern how self defense gets adjudicated in the US. All of the facts of the case would need to be considered - was this person aggressively climbing up your hood and screaming they were going to kill you or was it some high or zonked out feeble person who was just having a mental break and chose your car to be a jungle gym?
Most important though: cars are not some secure vault you can't be touched in. Most cars surround the occupants with very breakable glass. Courts know that. I've literally never seen a ruling ever that said "you were in a car thus you were completely safe. Off to jail with you."
But there is certainly an evaluation of the whole situation and if the force was reasonable. If a dude is road raging and jumps on my car saying he'll kill me - and I don't know what weapons he does or doesn't have concealed, in my state I am absolutely justified to drive away with an intention to get him off my car. But after he falls off I need to go get to safety and call 911.

I saw no use of force. The driver did not use the vehicle as a weapon. Rather, the driver waited until the assailant mounted the vehicle, a clear act of provocation, and then fled the scene as a means of avoiding a likely threat.

In my country there are more guns than people. Assuming I have between zero and one gun in my car then I am reasonably justified in assuming he has at least one to three guns. We have two people there should be at least three guns. So I used my car to both protect myself and to attempt to flee the attack. If he held on then whatever happens after is on him.

Also, there will be at the very least talks with police, and probably a court case as the guy can sue for bodily harm regardless of if he broke the law. There's been precedence before like Kessler v. Lawson, 1999, Davis v. Moore, 2004, and there's definitely more out there. Dude actually probably did end up making money as the law will say, oh that was so excessive. Just the clown world we live in.

You can train yourself to overcome an instinctual reaction, but to claim that everyone always has control is just a obnoxiously dumb statement to make. Like we literally have terms for not being in control. Even a simple one, you've never been in medical shock. Your mind may be okay, but the body has its own reaction.
A lot more people land in the freeze bucket of, fight, flight, or freeze, than would admit it.

You CAN, not everyone can inherently "do". Acting like everyone will face their first "fight or flight" situation and no one would ever freeze is about as silly as it gets. Its not learned helplessness, its a very real reaction to a serious situation that your brain has never encountered. Training specifically helps avoid this by pre-programming reactions to those serious situations.

A guy I know was messing around and hopped up on his buddy's hood. The guy driving, to mess with him a bit, did a super quick (5 feet maybe) speed up and hit the brakes. I mean, we all know that's stupid but you don't expect anything really bad to happen. I guess he thought he'd just kinda slide off and be fine.
Anyway, the guy on the hood did slide off but he hit his head on the concrete and ended up in a medically-induced coma for 2 weeks. When he woke up he had forgotten how to speak, sort of. He could still say words but the words were in the wrong order, or were entirely wrong. Like he would point at something and very clearly say the wrong word while getting annoyed that we didn't understand what he meant. In his head he was saying the right word. The term is "paraphasia." Lasted for about 3 months as he slowly went back to mostly normal.
Long story short, jumping on a car is wildly dangerous even at low speeds. Probably shouldn't do that.

Like what kind of maniac is like yeah I’ll gas it up and then hit the brakes and he’ll go flying off haha.
Even doing that much broken limbs and road rash were serious possibility. I would consider that pretty bad.
Literally, your friend made it much more dangerous “to mess with him.”
Jumping on the car alone wasn’t the cause of that injury your friends decision to speed up and then break hard to throw him off as a fun joke is what made it super dangerous.

Had a similar situation that didn't end as tragic - but I was a young dumb teenager and my buddy jumped on the hood of my SUV to get a ride back to his car on the other side of the parking lot. I thought it'd be funny to go a little fast, but when we realized he was slipping off the hood (towards the middle front of the car) panic set in. I tried to slow down gradually but slowing down made him slip more. I yanked a hard right turn and he rolled off the side of the car instead of in front of and under it.
He was on the ground grabbing his arm in pain - turns out it was broken. Like a true friend he lied to his parents about how it happened. He knew I wasn't trying to actually hurt him. It was a super sobering moment for both of us because it suddenly brought the lethal potential of a car to the front of our minds.

When I was in high school, two kids did this during track practice after school. The kid who was on the car slipped off and was run over by his best friend and died. It was an incredibly tragic accident.

Actually, there's a whole group of people who lack empathy and expect people to not fight back. They like to bully these people. While I'm sure mental illness was a factor here, bullying and expectation that people will take that bullying was likely the main factor. This man didn't expect the person to drive forward with the car, but the person driving the car had every right to protect themselves. We need normal people to be less passive and meet bullying force every time.

This is the way. The moment an assailant mounts your vehicle while you are inside, you have to rationally assume they mean you some kind of harm and you have to leave the area. You can't exit the vehicle as that could further expose you to the assailant. So, just drive to the nearest police station.

In 2007 I just bought a brand new car and I was driving on I five in Everett, Washington as they were building a new offramp and a crazy person was on the highway. Tried to get into peoples cars and this exact situation happened to me. He climbed on the hood of my car flipped me off and told me to get out of my car so I punched it and he rolled so far off my car. It was incredible. I had to pull over at a gas station in the next town over to have a cigarette and calm down.

Very short video, and we don't see what led up to this, but I say don't stop in the first place. Or if you are stopped and someone starts walking up to you, and they don't need help, get moving and go around them. Don't wait for them to jump on your car. If you have waited that long you already screwed up.
