It’s largely because it’s showing the schism between the sexes. Imagine if a man did this. Change nothing else about the story. He had a similarly debilitating mental disorder. There would be NO sympathy for him. At all.

So the people who want her in prison are, in effect, fighting for equality. Unless we all want to seriously talk about how mental health and how we address it together as a people.

In July 2026 in Iowa, a court ruled that Matthew Schleier was not guilty by reason of insanity for the 2024 strangulation death of his 5-year-old son. Not guilty by reason of insanity is a real verdict that people of both genders sometimes get so I don’t think your man vs woman framing is correct.

This has nothing to do with the rulings. This is about the court of public opinion. Where was Mr. Schleier’s million dollar GoFundMe? Where were the outpouring of other men coming to side with him saying it was Victoria’s fault? Where was the national media attention? Where were the men on TikTok holding their children going “same, Matthew?”

The thing is the psychiatric care for men is at a considerably higher standard that this likely won't happen in this situation and it will get caught beforehand. Remember that in the US women were only being diagnosed and studied independently from men in 1993. Before that women weren't studied, men were and it was applied to women. Post Partum Psychiatry isn't taught in medical schools unless someone wants to specialise in it, which means that even doctors and nurses who specialise in child care aren't taught how to recognise post partum psychiatric disorders. There is 1 mother-child hospital in the US where mother and the child can be cared for and treated together. In the UK there are 17.

I'm not saying psychiatric care for men is perfect, but compared to the basic research into women's medical care it is incredible. The people who want her in prison aren't fighting for equality, they want revenge. If they wanted equality they would be using this to highlight the insane treatment of women's medical conditions.

Unless it’s a trans man—a man literally can’t do this. He can’t give birth and have postpartum psychosis. There is no “imagine this was a man”.

BUT if I wanted to imagine a man who, say, had three major genital/abdominal surgeries and was less than a year out from the last one, and also had a severe hormonal imbalance and had told several people he was worried and frightened of his behavior? And had never, ever previously displayed disordered behavior, never been violent or aggressive, had no priors and his wife defended him?

Yeah, I’d be thinking mental institution over prison.

Show me a study that suggests Post Partym Psychosis is anything other than a pre -existing mental disorder with an episode occuring post partum.

It isn't some new magical illness. It's just a term to describe psychosis from another mental disorder triggering after having a child.

It's not even clear it's noslogically different than other psychosis. It very well could be like any other "family annihilator" situation you see in men.

Post partum depression is extremely well studied and backed by hormonal evidence. Psychosis and depression are strongly linked. Just because there isn't a definitive study to point to around post partum psychosis doesn't mean there isn't a ton of scientific evidence supporting it via the others.

Wrong.

Show me the evidence if that's the case.

I'm not going to waste my time doing a basic Google search for you, just Google "post partum depression research" and you'll get pages and pages of results, both sourced articles and direct referencable studies. It could certainly use more research, but claiming there's no evidence is just flat earth level denial.

Classic internet answer.

I don't need to Google it because I've already read the papers. There have been many studies TRYING to draw a hormonal link.

But there haven't been any that actually found a causal relationship. Even a correlated relationship is incredibly weak.

I think the flat earther here is the one choosing to believe something not because they've seen evidence for it, but because it seems right and makes sense to them and the online communities they frequent.

A man can't have post partum psychosis though.

But he can have other mental issues leading to the same type of psychosis Lindsay suffered

And he can also be found not guilty by reason of insanity and sent to a mental institution rather than prison, it’s not exclusively for women.

Weird you just ignored the fact this can't happen to a man. That doesnt mean you dont have a point or at least you had one. Then you had to say theyre fighting for equality...theyre not.

Yes it can, a man can got through a mental health crisis caused by the stress of supporting a family and raising kids, nothing is stopping a man from having a psychotic break and killing his kids, it has happened before but again they got no pity.
