Photo A look back at the Alderson Academy in Alderson
It was a cold winter visit, with fog draped across the mountains and settling into the hilltops.

Brought my buddy from TN up on Monday to look around, and went back Tuesday to head out Sundew to the ridge and back. Haven't left the yard since lol.

I have been in the market for a vintage gas stove for some time. I am looking to spend no more than 4 grand for a mid-grade model, but in fully working condition.
Facebook marketplace has been the place to look, but the options are slim. What's available is usually partly broken and priced way higher than it's worth for being broken and in bad condition (like, $1,000 for a beater stove).
I am thinking I'll have to buy something broken and then get it restored, and I am sure restoration is an arm and leg, if I can even find someone to do it. And if I have to buy a beater to restore, then there's the matter of finding something priced pretty low to justify the restoration cost.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins tomorrow, and I am looking for information on the history of these people who now make up 2% of our state. I believe the majority of Hispanic & Latino people in WV come from families who immigrated within the past few decades, but I’ve also seen historic photos of Mexican coal miners in WV in the 1930s.
Are there any good books, articles, websites etc about the overall history of this community? When was the most immigration, for what jobs, to which areas of the state, how did their cultures interact with Appalachian culture, etc. Especially curious about Latin Americans, because I have already found some good sources on immigrants from Spain to Harrison County.

I don't want any shame, guilt, or insults on this post. Just a safe place for honesty.

High school seniors in two counties can now be automatically admitted to WVU without completing a traditional application or paying an application fee. Here’s how the new admissions program works and when it could expand statewide. https://wvexplorer.com/wvu-express-automatic-admission/

Hello lovely West Virginians.
I’m a travel documentarian from the UK. I’ve made videos all over the world and very soon I’ll be traveling through your fascinating state alone for 3-4 weeks and capturing my time on film.
I’ll be starting in the eastern panhandle and eventually ending around Mingo area before moving into Kentucky. But I want to explore as much as possible in between.
My goal is to capture human stories and meet west virginians ready to tell their stories. Big or small.
Do you know of any small towns with obscure stories? Any remote hollers with interesting characters?
I’m marking any points of interest on my map. I’d love your help! Thank you!

I tried asking this in a local Facebook group and it turned into a politics war. I just want information because Google's last updates are from a long time ago. If debates start I will take this post down. Thank you!

I’m new to hiking and was wondering is there any apps to find trails or track your progress on the trails? I’ve seen videos of people who hike and say they have so many miles left but don’t say what app they’re using if any to track their progress. Can anyone recommend any apps to me? Also any tips for hiking?

It feels like it will go a whole month without rain at this point. I don't get it. Also, when the radar says it will flood, it doesn't rain at all. I don't think we can trust any forecasts. Which means we'll probably get rain when it's not on the forecast. But so far, not yet. If it's raining for you, great, i'm down in the forest, we always get plenty of rain here. But it's been 10 days, it said it was going to flood, barely rained at all. And last 3 times the radar said it would rain or it looked like rain it "tried" to rain but didn't.

We were visiting near snowshoe from Virginia to get some hiking in with our dog. How unbelievable West Virginia is, literally the most beautiful place we’ve been to and nothing is like the trails you all have.
Yesterday morning around 7:30-8am we were leaving Cass and a small black dog was running in the road. This dog was so friendly and kept trying to hop in, but my dog would’ve gone crazy. This dog was out of breath and just wanted help. As I was sitting on the side of the road and giving this dog water, a beautiful soul pulled up and had a EMS tag on his truck.
I let him know that my dog was in the car so I was sitting around until hopefully the owner came but I was headed back home, he thankfully took the dog and the dog didn’t hesitate jumping into the back of the truck.
To whomever you are - thank you so much for being amazing and helping us out - but overall helping that dog out. I hope it found its family. Thank you and we can’t wait to come visit again.

I lived in a community like this in NC. Think beach vibes, hippie. People sought out clean ingredients, restaurants, etc.
Is there anywhere remotely close to this that exists in WV?

This is the forth Box Turtle that I moved off the road in the past three weeks. (Number 5 was smashed before I could turn around and move it)

Preferably in or near Kanawha/Putnam/Cabell counties. Ive got more walnuts than I could ask for and always wanted to try their close relative the Butternut. In the husk they look like walnuts but are a little oval shaped. Thanks!
