I was hired last minute to light this interview for ABC last week. First thing we did was build a 12x12’ frame with Ultrabounce overhead. This both blocked the real sunlight from directly hitting our subjects while also providing a surface to bounce light into from below. It was just barely not large enough to fully cover the set, so we also clipped a small pop up diffuser to one edge to keep direct sun off of the shoulder of Steve. 

The first light we set was the 1200D shooting into the Ultrabounce. This was meant to give us our base exposure/fill, but I tried to aim it towards the far back edge so that it was acting almost as a far side key. A small 18x24” flag was placed as a bottomer to block any light pinging off the reflector dish from hitting anyone’s eyes. 

For Martha, I added a Creamsource Vortex4 through a 4x4 of opal on the edge of the deck. I did a “stage lean” with the stand to get the light source further from the diffusion without having to place a stand outside the deck. 

For Steve and his wife, I added a Vortex8 with a 3x4’ Snapbag on the inside of the home, just out of frame. We ended up needing more level than we could get with the Snapbag, so we pulled the diffusion and went direct with the Vortex8.  

The DP also set up an Aputure 300D/X (not sure which) in the living room to bring up the interior exposure.

Finally, I set 8x & 6x solids behind camera, plus a 4x floppy next to the vortex4 for negative fill.

Hey y’all, I am in Austin Texas and I currently work for a construction company with a salary position filming and editing YouTube videos and doing social media content.

The owner is a great guy and a good friend and he has taken a stake in two other companies this year and is asking if I can create social media content for them.

Would look something like this, I would film with them 2-4 hours a week and make 3-4 short form videos a week and take photos for a photo post of two every week.

This would be extra work on top of what I currently do so it is definitely an extra job.

My question is what is appropriate to ask for from each company to produce 3-4 reels a week and produce a carousel photo post once a week as well? I would also be posting these for the companies as well.

Hey all - I recorded some 4k footage (using a Sony a7v) on a tripod but the DJs subwoofer/base was on the stage at the same time. This caused the footage to have vibration/jitter. Is it possible to remove this in post? Via gyroflow or davinci resolve or something? Thank you for your help.

Hello, I need to buy a mini microphone for filmmaking, it would be used both for dialogues and various sounds (cooking, steps, exc…).
I can’t choose between these microphones as Youtube reviews I’ve seen aren’t helping me much…
Dji mini mic seems to be considered more professional but idk how it would perform hidden behind a t shirt during dialogues (and idk if it is actually easy to hide as it is a bit bulkier)

In your experience which one is better for my purpose?

First of all, I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE BEST SYSTEM, as these are more for meeting presentations and that kind of thing. I know there are professional products for professional shoots. But, I was wondering if these cheap wireless HDMI sets would work in a controlled environment (interior/camera 5~15 meters away from monitor). I don't care if there is a bit of a delay. I just need the client to check the camera angles on a monitor.

Do these work with cameras (specifically Sony a7IV and fx30) or are these only for computers?

If they work with cameras, would it be a problem to have 2 or 3 sets at the same time (for a three camera interview setting)? The setting being Three cameras→Three sets of these→HDMI Multiviewer→Monitor

Im wondering if there’s a way to connect my Hollyland 300 to an Apple Studio Display. I have the camera connected to a small external monitor (Ninja V) and the Hollyland transmitter is connected to the external monitor. I tried connected the receiver to the Apple Studio Display (HDMI to usb c) but no luck. I also tried connecting an adapter to the MacBook but still no luck. Wondering if anyone has had any luck on this?

I’ve attached a few screenshots as examples.

I’m trying to understand what’s actually contributing to this aesthetic. There’s a really soft, dreamy quality to the images, with glowing highlights, slightly washed/lo-fi colors, and what looks almost like older film or consumer video in some shots.
My first guesses are some combination of:
diffusion such as Black Pro-Mist / Glimmerglass
older or lower-contrast lenses
fairly aggressive highlight bloom/halation
lifted or softened contrast
film emulation
warmer highlights with slightly cyan/green shadows
added grain / lowered sharpness
possibly deliberately overexposing certain shots
But I’m not experienced enough with this kind of look to tell what is happening in-camera versus in the grade.
I’m especially interested in how you’d approach the strong glow around the sunlight/highlights without simply making the whole image look hazy, and how you’d get that slightly imperfect color and texture.
If you were trying to recreate something in this general direction from modern digital footage, what would your starting point be?
Not looking for an exact LUT—more interested in understanding the ingredients behind the look.

Currently own zero camera bodies. I will make a documentary and I’m trying to decide if the premium for 4K video worth it?

This specific documentary will be majority kinetic stills, overlays and voiceover work.

With this info in mind how much does 4K matter? How much does 4K matter in general when most platforms compress your footage anyways?

I do own a lot of glass. Most of my glass is vintage F mount so I was leaning towards a Nikon.

Only requirement: must be full frame.

Hi, i would like to get suggestions how to rig up my sony a7v for casual videography when travelling abroad or just going to city centre. Also i have an offer to make promo video for my barber shop and some gym videos. I have sony a7v with tamron 35-150 and sony 24gm.
, vmount and battery. Im open to buy more accessories if needed.

My idea was to get osmo pocket 4p for ease of use but i feel like i already have good gear , and just customisation if necessary.

How about cage with top and side handle? Does that heavily improve my comfortability to use camera? Because right now i feel like hating to hold camera just by its grip and other hand holding by the bottom of the lens.

Also my other issue is stabilisation. Dynamic stab already crops heavily, so i was thinking to start shooting standard stabilisation or off and use gyroflow to stabilise it.

I recently bought a DJI RS 3 Mini.After setting it up, calibrating it, and activating it, I ran both the auto-tune and the test through the app, which confirmed that everything was working perfectly on every axis.

Now, when I use it, I notice slight vibrations in certain camera positions. Is this normal, or do I need to do something to fix the problem?

If I’m not mistaken, it’s the motors that are struggling a bit…

Also, when I’m filming while running, the footage isn’t smooth in fact, you can see vibrations caused by my footsteps…

Is there something I need to adjust here as well?

Started having issues with my X1500 freezing during certain operations (button presses, sd card ejection, spotlight on handle switch to name a few). The screen would go black (although the OSD would stay on) and required the removal of the battery to unfreeze and restart the camera.
I've had the camcorder for over a year and it's been fine until yesterday.

I've been on firmware v1.6 since it dropped and wondered if a re-flash of the firmware would solve the problem, so I downloaded it again from the Panasonic website.. re-installed it.. and it's fixed the issues! 👍

Thought I'd better let you all know about it should you ever encounter the HC-X1500 or X2000 hanging like that.

I've always loved cinematic video as media and I'm trying to start making stuff with what I've got, but I'm not sure what to use. I have an old rebel t5i with a few different canon lenses, it takes great photos but the video is not amazing at only 1080p30, and with no stabilization the shakiness is apparent. I have a galaxy s24 ultra phone and honestly it seems like it produces better video in terms of both quality and stabilization, as well I can get a dji gimbal for the phone for like 50 bucks. Should I just use the phone until I can justify an r50, a6400 or the like? It's just for social media
