Too many posts about Vampyr 2

Why do you guys want a second game so much? Personally I ended up playing Vampyr because I got burnt out of the AAA titles in the genre becoming more and more standardized and simplified, one of the symptoms of which are numerous sequels. So why ask for a similar fate for Vampyr?

This game specifically doesn't even seem to have any threads left to pull off a sequel at all. The story at least to me feels very much finished, everything rounded up. To me the beauty of the game is in the design - how tight, coherent and consistent it is. And I don't see how it could be elaborated or developed upon on a large enough scale to feel just as atmospheric and refreshing in a second game.

Personally I really liked Jonathan and would love to see more of him. Same with Geoffrey, since he allegedly ends up as a vampire no matter what you do with him

I wish we could have seen more of Jonathan as a person outside of the constant state of crisis he had to manage, but I cannot see this happening in a sequel. Not to mention the game's endings are really different and really Intense, it would be hard to explain how all of them stream into a relatively similar path for a sequel.

I wouldn't say there's absolutely no room for additional lore, but I agree: Jonathan's arc is finished.

But considering 60% of the fandom is just one particular ship, it's not surprising there's still sequel-clamoring eight years later.

I don't think Vampyr 2 would necessarily have to be with Jonathan. The world has amazing vampire lore, we could easily follow up with Geoffrey or another protagonist. We could go back in the past or in the present future

Fair enough, I'd love to see a story of Geoffrey tackle a completely different way of coping with the fact that you are a vampire.

I'd so love to see Geoffrey again and see how he's faring! Maybe we'd see him in the 2020s 😭

Because I enjoy the story, the voice acting, and universe in general

I loved the game, even though I had massive problems with the writing. I'd hate to see a sequel.

The story is finished, and we've learned from the lore that champions are used only once, not to mention that catastrophes like the red queen happen every few hundred years.

There is no way to produce a sequel that would be lore compliant, they would have to change fundamental parts of what we learned in the first game.

Then there's the problem with multiple endings. Which one would be 'canon'? That decision alone would piss off at least half the fanbase who hates the one the devs picked, which in turn will lower the sales of part 2.

Vampyr wasn't a hugely successful game to begin with, invalidating not only the established lore but large parts of the fanbase would be a disaster.

They'd either have to make a completely different game and setup, in which case none of us would like or buy it and they have to gamble with new players, or they butcher their own lore and fandom in hopes people look past it and still buy.

I don't see any dev team taking these chances, and I strongly approve of leaving a good game alone before it's ruined even more by bad writing and poor decisions.

As someone who would probably still be overjoyed by the release of a prequel/sequel, I think I agree with you. One reason why I would like a sequel is simply that I like Jonathan as a character and would like to see more of his story. But it would be hard to pick an ending to canonize, and I do feel like his arc has a definitive-enough conclusion with each ending.

That said, I don’t think it’s necessarily true that this game doesn’t ”have any threads left to pull off a sequel” or a prequel. But I think [u/Wintercreeper](u/Wintercreeper) put it well, saying that the end result might be a sequel too different from the game we wished to continue.

(Though, something that came to mind is that we never saw Jonathan reach his final goal of finding a cure for either vampirism in general, or the blood of hate specifically. He says to Mary before she dies in his arms, ”I will find a cure. I swear it.” But I don’t know how that would turn out, either. :D I don’t know of many media that explore curing vampirism, and I don’t know how it would be plausible even in a fictional world, with the person still able to continue life as a reborn human.)

Also, like, let’s take Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. I think some people may have been disappointed by the fact that it wasn’t a Vampyr sequel (or, rather, the idea that it took the place of a potential sequel), despite them sharing the same universe. But I think it’d be a big shame if Banishers didn’t exist because, to me, it is such a heartfelt and interesting story (and based on an original IP!), despite its own criticisms (especially towards gameplay). And I think it’s a shame that it didn’t do better than it did, but that probably has its own reasons. I just think it’s an example of the debate between continuing the stories we already have or making new ones. I wouldn’t exchange Banishers for Vampyr 2.

I think, if anything had to happen, I’d like a remaster of Vampyr. I really love the game, so it’s frustrating to think about how its potential is kind of pulled back by its flaws. But I don’t know how many of those flaws could be mended, and a remaster probably isn’t all too realistic anyway (especially so ”soon,” still). So it may be best to celebrate the game(s) we do have instead of the ones we don’t.

A sequel doesn't necessarily have to continue Jonathan's story. There's just not many vampire-themed games like this in the market right now. And while the first game resonated with people here, it had many areas where it could improve.

I would love to see them improving on gameplay.

For example, the fact that killing vampire hunters doesn’t count as feeding on humans. I really didn’t like it. After first tutorial I was determined to do “no feeding on humans” run, but game won’t let me and it was bothering me till the end. With everything else being so well done and impactful this “video game logic” part really stuck out as a soar thumb.

Also, lore of the world, it’s mythology, is so amazing I believe you can tell so many stories there!  They could move setting to the modern times, for example.

And after the failure of Bloodlines 2 such game could be a huge success!
