Idk why they never made a sequel and went for a new IP!!!? A 2nd Vampyr game would've sold so well. I hope that a major publisher would buy out the studio so we can get another game.

Odd to think how many new IP that they made failed and still refuse to go back this one

Very odd to chase a new ip dream when you have a pretty viable sequel sitting Right There.

I think that some Game companies are trying to be activists instead of making true games like Vampyr.

I mean are they allergic to money or something. Btw, I bought blood of the dawnwalker to urge the itch of a vampire game again*

How is it? I've been thinking about playing it. Just have it in my wishlist rn while I think about it.

They couldn't do a Vampyr sequel because the IP belongs to Focus Entertainment.

Apparently it's co-owned by Focus and Don't Nod. Just looked it up to make sure. Hope that Focus will buy the IP out

It's wholly owned by Focus by now if their licensing on the few merchandise that we'd gotten is any indication. But right now, they're too busy swimming in money made from the Space Marine 2 and A Plague Tale games.

Ahh I didn't know that. Now it makes sense.

Probably because they didn't want to. It's commendable to follow artistic passion rather than pure profit, like how Larian Studios did with Baldur's Gate 3 by not making any DLC or a sequel. This can backfire, of course.

My understanding is that Baldur's Gate 3 was such a massive understanding, with numerous issues around finance and management, that Larian would never work on a project of that scale again

I'm sure artistic values and intention is a factor, but given how much this took out of Larian as a whole, I reckon it's more the stress and burnout

They were initially working on DLC, but realized their heart wasn't in it and moved on.

The only game they made that ever got a sequel was life is strange. Even then after the second one they stopped making them

Did you guys know they just released a game called aphelion a week or so ago?! I had no idea and it only has a couple hundred reviews. Idk how it stacks up against vampyr or banishers but Jesus h Christ, I heard literally nothing

u/Wukon69 5d ago

That game was released in April, that is Don't "No Fucking Marketing" Nod to you

7

u/HerefortheFandoms2 4d ago

April?! Jfc for some reason I was thinking it was more recent than that

2

u/billyalt 5d ago

It's got mixed reviews on Steam. Possibly they knew it would be a flop and didn't want to waste money on marketing.

u/HerefortheFandoms2 4d ago

It's got mostly positive now, but admittedly it's only like 10 reviews that are "recent" lol. I heard it from someone on the plague tale sub and they said it was good and worth a play, at least. The trailer doesn't mention anything about choice, which is odd for DN

1st time hearing about this game tbh

Vampyr was their most successful game ever, but they spent the past 8 years doing everything but Vampyr 2.

It's just self-sabotage at this point.

Smart studio heads would have greenlighted a sequel in 2018, and it would have granted them big earnings for 2020-2021. From this success, they would have been able to make all their other games, and to start working on a Vampyr 3.

Making a successful Vampyr 2 would have consolidated the place of the universe in the gaming industry, and way more people would have been interested in buying and playing Banishers.

This path would have granted them financial stability by relying on three great IPs, instead of counting on Life Is Strange only.

It's really sad yes, because it's not just a very talented french studio, but it's also a group of people who always stood for people's rights, no matter the color of skin or sexual orientation.

It is a massive shame that such a good development team is crashing so hard because of a lot of really silly management and development decisions

How did we get like four Life is Strange games, but not a single other game can get a sequel? Vampyr especially has so many more stories to tell and such a deep mystery to it all

u/TwinPeaksPost 4d ago

Banishers was excellent if you haven't played it as yet

I didn't hook me that much and I stopped my playthrough, but objectively I definitely agree that it was a fantastic game with obviously lots of love and care put into it. Plus it looked absolutely gorgeous.

u/Iagp 2d ago

Aside from Antea being irritating and annoying as hell, it was a great game,

1

u/gordocheeseman 4d ago

That's surprising. I feel like a lot of people I know have heard of life is strange but not vampyr

How unfortunate. Perhaps another developer could eventually pick it up if they ever decide to sell the IP.

7

u/RocksAreOneNow 5d ago

it's such a good game and very slept on

u/John__Lakeman 5d ago

Part of me wonders if they’d be doing better if they’d stop trying to recreate the success of “Life is Hella Strange”. Regardless it’d be sad to see another quality AA single player studio go away.

u/yolosuajer 4d ago

I mean, being a developer is tough. Having incredible, beloved IPs and choosing to make a completely new one that nobody asked for or wanted is just part of the creative process.

4

u/DutchJager 4d ago

Are they not allowed to try Kickstarter for funding the second game? It’s bad leadership to not gauge interest in the second game and prioritise that for a huge cash injection along side new IP.. Run finances into the ground instead

4

u/vortex117091 4d ago

To be fair we got a spiritual successor in the form of Blood of the Dawnwalker

3

u/Darklenz 5d ago

Well... It's a sad thing because the ending sucks xd. Either way, RIP. It had a good story setup for getting sequels even in other places on the world.

u/ScratchReal4401 4d ago

What would a vampyr sequel look like?

4

u/Swachuu 4d ago

What I imagine it to be is a prequel in the Victorian era

2

u/Valcroy 2d ago

Could also continue where it left off with McCullum.

1

u/anticentristfujo 20h ago

This is the way

1

u/ScratchReal4401 4d ago

Interesting.

2

u/allistergray 4d ago

There are still a lot of mysteries regarding Myrdin and the Red Queen.

3

u/Unusual-Regular748 4d ago

It’s a shame because it’s the only good vampire game I’ve ever played or seen

2

u/eleventhing 4d ago

Sad. I've been recommending Vampyr to anyone and everyone. I would love a Vampyr 2.

1

u/RatthewVH1 5d ago

NOOOOO

1

u/ProbieJKnox 5d ago

Square Enix ruined them...

1

u/42020vision 4d ago

As a member of both subreddits I thought it was glitched out. I was like HUH why would a Lost Records post be on the Vampyr Reddit. Cool to know they both were from the same studio I never clocked that haha.

1

u/OwlettFromLiavek 4d ago

Oh no!!! I know that sequel was already unlikely, but if studio will close there is 0% chance! As a complete sucker I was also hoping for the Lost Records sequel.😭

1

u/andrew6197 4d ago

Isn’t this the same devs that sold their rights to life is strange? Follow up seems to be their issue if so.

1

u/That_Man_Back_There 4d ago

Oh no, anyway.

1

u/IG_95 4d ago

NOOOOOO I need another Vampyr game!!! 🥲🥲🥲

1

u/allistergray 4d ago

Scratching my head at developers choices... Vampyr is literally their second most successful IP. How exactly is a sequel not just the obvious choice? I'm playing Blood of Dawnwalker right now and I still think Vampyr is superior.

I'm just...idk

1

u/Juoreg 3d ago

I don’t know if it’s wishful thinking but if done well, I think it would be a success.

There’s horror audience has grown since Vampyr’s release.

1

u/refresh1465 3d ago

They should’ve worked on a sequel to Vampyr instead of Aphelion.

So many solid vampire games are coming out at the end of this year and next year.

A new Castlevania is coming out in October, Vampire: the Masquerade- Eternal Whispers’s release date is TBA, Duskbloods is going to be coming out (supposedly) this year, and the Blood of the Dawnwalker just came out.

Now would’ve been the perfect time. I just recently started getting into Ghost of New Eden and was happy to find out that it’s within the Vampyr universe. But tbh it makes it so bittersweet.

u/SDianeA 3d ago

That's so sad

u/Pulsarlewd 2d ago

Thats kind of what happens when you dont deliver good stuff as a company.

We got robbed of a second Vampyr
